I'm aware that this was the case in a lot of old JRPGs, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. It doesn't make it a good design choice intrinsically. Sometimes it can work, but I think Persona 1 and 2 could have benefited from a little more buildup.

It doesn't have to be the same length as P3/4, but just a little more.

P1 and 2 are very old, and back then the games were all about the gameplay and the development, the intros were week

I'm not trying to fault Atlus so much, like I'm saying "You hacks, learn to write a story" because they are old. But at the same time, "It was all we knew back then/it was the standard at the time" doesn't make it good now, especially if you're jumping into those games after playing 3/4, like a lot of people did.

It's not like it destroys the games or something, but that doesn't mean it also can't be a little grating.

This. I started P2 after seeing people praise it as the best story and what I got was characters awakening to their persona because a girl called a dude undie boss. Everything was rushed as fuck and the reactions to the weird shit were ridiculous.

In the other hand as I played further into it I found other things from old games too that won me. The way characters and their issues and interactions were treated back then usually felt more genuine. Nowadays Japanese media has their check list of shit to include to appeal the otaku and many things end feeling very repetitive. Characters like Lisa would create a huge backslash if they were created now, homo is more blatant so the fujoshi have their share, but it always has to be in a way the player understands the character is ultimately straight (Yosuke) instead of less and more subtle hints but ultimately gay (Jun.)

Old writing has its flaws, but it has its pros too. It depends on which weights more for you.

I was pretty much going to go with my endgame P3 team: Mitsuru, Akihiko, Aigis, Yukari. I was surprised to find that Shinji was even in the game, but I guess I shouldn't complain about that. I haven't finished Strange Journey yet, but I think I'm going to go ahead and keep playing Q.

I don't understand why people would hate Marie other than her bitchy side but who doesn't have one? Personally, I think it makes her more "real" as a person someone can connect and empathize with rather than agreeing with an ideal of a goddess. She's sarcastic and cute in her own way; her attitude towards writing poems reminds me of someone trying to release their inner thoughts (like how a shadow reveals stuff about their respective character) although she could use a little more work as a lyricist. Lastly, she could match off against Rise in their competition for their beloved Yu-senpai..~
