I do prefer spin-offs than sequels. Spin-offs are largely irrelevant and you don't miss anything if you ignore them, but a whole sequel would weight much more, it's harder to ignore a whole second part to something, and if it's shit (which would be very likely after Ultimax became a thing) it would retroactively devalue the original.

Another spin-off.
He is right, PQ isn't an integral part of the original games' events. You don't miss anything by not playing any of the spin-offs. The most they provide is some trivia and nice references.
The P3 CD dramas had more relevant information for P3 than all the spin-offs put together.

In either case, I would hardly call any of these games integral at all.

Aigis apparently was taken on a tour of the school by Makoto,Yukari,Junpei and Fuuka

Kineko was introduced in the drama CD's like Labrys

Apparently Yukari shot down a shadow that had hijacked a helicopter with Mitsuru on it after the death of her father.

Somehow all of this happened and is canon despite the game showing us every moment of SEES time together.

The drama CDs as a whole imply SEES spent more time together than you see in the game. MC spends time with Ryoji and Shinji while in the game he doesn't and you control his every moment. They don't clash with the story portions though, it just implies that some of the time you had to make MC do S.Links or whatever was spent together with the team.
It's more about gameplay issues than anything else.
