The big twist in MGS1 was the fact that both Snake and Liquid were clones of Big Boss.

Really, I never played 4 but only 5 and elements of 2 were shit. The whole information manipulation being used to control people and the entire game being a simulation played out by the patriots was pretty neat, the whole Ocelot being possessed by Liquid and pretty much everything involving him after that has been complete dogshit though.

As far as "Fuck You" endings go, the ending to God of War 2 is really amazing. Kratos spends two entire games crying over his dead family and he finds the threads of fate, which literally allow time travel. Does he use this new found ability to save his wife and kid? Nope, he just travels back in time to make sure he can kill Ares and then he goes back and saves the Titans so he can use them to get revenge on the gods for something he can easily change. No one ever seems to mention this shit too.

Also No More Heroes 2 has a shit story and ending. Plus it ignores the twist from the first game completely.

Cortana saying she was "cured" of it makes as much as you or I saying we were "cured" of growing taller as we age. In Marathon, IIRC the way to "cure" rampancy was for the AI to get into a network large enough that they can grow into once they become self aware, which really isn't a cure because they still do crazy shit and can cause a ton of damage.

I doubt anyone remembers it, but a shit game called Mindjack had some weird shit going on.

A guy you straight up murdered at the beginning turns up alive in the ending, and the main character doesn't even lift an eyebrow. Halfway through the game it turns out that you're not actually playing as the main character, but as a ghost that can possess people. Sounds interesting, but that's about as far as they thought it out. It's like they ran out of time.

Seriously. They could've had her as an alien from the beginning about it would've allowed them to explain why she saved humanity in the first place, and would've added some variety in the party (since they're all humans except for L and Celica).
Elma has the personality of a brick wall anyways so it wouldn't have changed much.
They even threw in stupid lines like "I would've never met all these people if I hadn't come to Earth 30 years ago" so anyone who is even slightly paying attention knows she's an alien but they just hold out on revealing it until the end.

Here is one no one mentioned , Witcher 3.

While the final battle against the Wild Hunt is going on, Ciri out of nowhere decides that she can, and she will save the world. This is the same moment that her grandfather figure just died and her skills would be invaluable.

I think Witcher 3 is just a mess, especially the ending. If CDPR were good to customers, they would put all the writers in a sack and throw them in the baltic sea.

In MGS2 Raiden (Solids Phantom so to speak) wanted to be like Snake upon realizing that being Snake is not what he imagined to be like he rejected the players control by throwing away the Dog Tags to find his own path.

In MGSV Venom (Big Boss' Phantom) wanted to be like Big Boss because every Solider who joined MSF and DD Idolized Big Boss like he Idolized The Boss. Difference here is that Big Boss himself decided that the Boss betrayed him by putting down her weapons, this more or less marks Big Boss' turn into a villain. But when Venom was forced to become Big Boss he tried to be the Big Boss he idolized so much (saving the Children, Saving the World, Having strong feelings for your fellow soliders, not working alone and having this Idea of Outer Heaven being a place where Soliders find a place to call home). At the End Venom accepts his Role as Big Boss as much as he accepts being controlled by someone else (the player by showing your Avatar).

The game has some issues but i like that Kojima tried to get the massage from MGS2 out again. This Legacy, this Legend isn't Konamis, its not his, its the experience you have made as a player.
