Think we'll ever reach the point where we could actually

Think we'll ever reach the point where we could actually speak to video games and the NPCs would be able to understand what we're saying and generate a proper response?

Think we'll get to the point where NPCs can be controlled by actual AI, able to think and process what's going on instead of just being programmed to go through sets of predetermined procedure?

If we populated games with sapient artificial intelligences, could killing people in violent video games actually be considered murder?
>>
what is government if words have no meaning?
>>
>>322668409
think we'll ever reach the point where NPC AI's are indistinguishable with actual human dialogue, and you'll still be too autistic to walk up to somebody and talk to them.

>Thanks for shopping at the alchemy store! Come back again real soon!!!

>"y-you too...."
>>
>>322668409
As long as we have any sort of AI capable of having actual conversations (a few already exist), the same technologoy would hypothetically be able to be code into a video game.

>could killing people in violent video games actually be considered murder?
Naw, not unless we can prove actual sentience, and even then, they're entirely virtual, so our current laws wouldn't cover it at all.
>>
>>322668409
>If we populated games with sapient artificial intelligences, could killing people in violent video games actually be considered murder?
That's just straight up retarded, a machine doesn't have to be sentient to mimic human speech.
>>
Even if murdering or torturing an artificial intelligence would be illegal, we could just make a master AI that roleplays the various characters.
>>
>>322668409
As long as people still buy rehashes, pre-orders and early access, no.
There will never be improvements in the area of video gaming again.
>>
>>322670589
>a machine doesn't have to be sentient to mimic human speech
No shit.
That's not the point of the question.
>>
>>322668409
That image looks great. Morrowind had such amazing art design.
>>
>>322671073
So, if you can solve a problem in a way that's punishable by law and one that isn't, and the legal method is actually easier to pull off than the illegal one, why would you do it illegally?

Morrowind should be a series on it's own separated from TES canon. It does alien aesthetics better then many sci fi games themselves.

I think it'd be better if they explored a lot more of the more alien and exotic parts of the TES world. The lore and books is full of exotic and alien stuff as good or if not better than Morrowind. Just Morrowind is the only game which explores the weird locations. The newest ones have all been in generic fantasy land.

Only if the memory/code/actual AI program is also deleted. If your game can be reloaded, then it's not "dead".

As soon as we get proper artificial intelligence, not even sapient, just cognitive, video games will become a hundred times shittier, as developers spend thousands of hours making realistic AI and skimping out on every other part of development.
Also animals have more right to be considered "murderable" since they're carbon-based lifeforms, and yet we mass genocide them.
Hell plants probably have some sort of elaborate hivemind we call even comprehend, and yet we mass genocide them.
You think your waifu is safe because of science fiction novels?
Guess what faggot, we're humans, the smartest, strongest, most egotistical animal on this planet, if the machines want rights they're going to have to fight for them, fight hard, because otherwise we sit on the golden throne and fuck everyone/thing else.
Sentience is egotistical human pseudoscience for why we're sooo damn special anyway.

There will never be a one-size fits all solution for anything when it comes to development, people using shit straight out of the development kit is why chromatic aberration looks like shit, when crysis 1 proved to us that it can be used tastefully.

No anon, I eat my meat just like you, well done (because I'm not an animal) and with a fork and knife just like you.
And if I ever get a "sentient" robot waifu love slave she will eat her meat raw, uncut, out of a fucking bowl on the floor, like the animal that she is.
I am not saying I pity these animals, nor AI.
I'm saying, look at our perfect track record of oppressing lower lifeforms.

I stil think that having preset answers and voice recog programs would be best.

RPGS could have pre-established answers, but you'd have to read them and the voice recog program would recognize which one you chose, moving the dialogue forward. It's more immersive than voiced characters and more plausible than AI NPCS i think

>>322676873
Yeah but that's always under the guise of "war."
But who doesn't love a good war?
A demonstration of highest-end killing gear.
Fuck yeah humans!
>>
>>322668409
This is the sort of mechanic RPGs desperately need. How can the player effectively roleplay if he's stuck in dialogue trees?

Fallout did something close to that with its Ask Question thing.
