Axiom Verge is alright. Nothing special but not bad.
Valdis Story is pretty good.
Environmental Station Alpha is great.
Cave Story, but just download the free version unless you want cheevos or something.

I had just finished playing axiom verge which was decent but this game was super metroid tier.

A lot of people here sucked it's dick but I thought it was pretty average for the genre. Nothing really new or interesting, but it was pretty and sounded good

Shantae now has 2 games on steam, you've probably already heard that suggestion but they're fun games with some genuinely humorous writing at times, albeit the platforming is simple.
Dustforce is great.
Volgarr the Viking is actually pretty fun too.

Fucking Strider. Really underrated, yet really good.

Play on hard because the game is really too easy.

I got Dustforce last wintersale because of the webms on /v/. Very comfy and great soundtrack.

Guys I beat Cave Story+ like 4 months ago
but I still can't beat Hell Temple. I literally beat the game all the way through twice, once normally then again I got to the very end and entered Hell but I just can't beat it. My save is still sitting there in that shack.
How do I git gud, it's that damn second room that fucks me over taking away ~90% of my health every time.

Yeah I love the soundtrack. That game really accomplishes something special when I can fail a ton and not get mad in the slightest just because of how quick it is to restart and how serene the music is.
But seriously I suck at the game, I can't even reach most of the gold locked doors from the hub.

Oh yeah, Shadow Complex is pretty good too, though it looks really generic.

It actually came out on PC last week and doesn't look and run like shit like the 360 version.

It's also free, if you don't mind downloading the Epic games useless launcher.

I'm enjoying the recommendations but there's no need to have unrelated images with every post.

Also I wouldn't say Dustforce is a metroidvania at all, despite it being a solid platformer.

Aye, but this is an imageboard and paintings are a direct continuation of the visual language korean animes establieshed centuries before. Also I people may find a painting they like and have a nice (yet not a whole experience since this is after all a screen we are looking at) experience.

Played a bit of Apotheon as well. Didn't beat it because it ran like shit on my old computer, but it was fun.

You know those games that always pretend to be inspired by Dark Souls ?
Well this game is literally a 2D Dark Souls. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I actually bought Apotheon since it was on sale. Controls didn't feel very good in my point of view or then it was something else that annoyed me. It has great artstyle and interesting setting though but I'm not sure I would enjoy playing it.

And there's Guacamelee. Pretty sure everybody already know about this game though.

It's not a great metroidvania due to his mediocre level design and boring power-ups, but his combat system is really good.
