The ammo in 'canon' is very high-capacity, so you don't see reloads during battles - it would only happen during the down time or in prolonged sieges or something.

Tokens are an abstraction for gameplay purposes, just like class limitations and points 'thresholds', or how the Jedi Starfighter is available to clone pilots with identical R2 units, or how the shield generator, comms, turrets, engines etc are all one door away from each other in every ship model. It is just abstractions.
