I thought they were selling off their assets and IPs? What's keeping them afloat?

No idea. I'm not so sure they are floating, companies with enough assets can postpone the slow spiral into the drain for decades.
I've been sad to see many that I liked fall apart, get bought and shelved, or just out right die.
But you know so many IPs last long enough to shit themselves or get a horrible cash grab re-inventing so maybe its not a bad thing.
I mean when I loved games the most it was often when you had to gamble on an unknown game. Maybe its time for a new set of titans in the industry
They have the FGC by the balls, and Japan loves Monster Hunter. It's all they need.
Remakes of the good Resident Evils. They still have 3 and CV after they're done with 2 and 0. After that I guess they could rerelease 4 for the tenth time.

I guess nothing ever happened then

Nothing happened with this. I remember keeping an eye open for weeks to see if anything was going to happen, but it's just a takeover defense clause that didn't get renewed.
Capcom was never going to be bought outright, nor were they ever selling off assets or IPs. It's simply a stock shareholder thing, not a matter of funds within the company.
