I think Bachelor goes in with the best intentions, but ultimately I think the chick is actually trying to fix it and stick with it essentially.
>>
Should I buy the restranslation or wait for the remake?
>>
>>315502861
Both. From what we've seen, they are going to be incredibly different experiences with the base opening plot and setting going to be the only similarities.

Pathologic HD is just the original but with upscaled graphics and a readable translation.

Right now no. The Hd edition with the translation that makes sense only just released, and I doubt anybody has done a full playthrough yet. The game is great, but it's not fun in a traditional sense. It's actually incredibly draining to play. Every day you survive or encounter is a sigh of relief, and every hour you remain uninfected is another gift.

You can absolutely fuck yourself into a hole that requires you to restart the game. That's why one of the DANK MEMES in these threads is to constantly stock up on food and drugs. Combat can be avoided, but food and drugs are a necessity to get through the 12 days.
>>
>>315502796
Bachelor fixes the problem, but also kills a shit ton of people.

I started the game when other anons suggested it in a thread a day or two ago, but I found it hard to know what I was doing. I only found small vlad after some anon posted it in the thread and I get the feeling im missing a lot of stuff, since ild mostly finished the days quest by 3PM. I also spoke to a girl who said something about coming to warehouse 11 after dark and saying the password 'Hell froze over' to see something, but when I went to the warehouse it was just a bunch of kids who I couldnt interact with.

What is the ETA on the remake?
Is this a spooky game?

I've also heard that this is a decent mindfuck/twist game. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being MADDEN and 10 being ever17, how does it scale on the mindfuck-o-meter?

Apologies for stupid questions.
>>
Does anyone know the name of the hype song that plays at the third day when Rubin tells you that he needs you to go to the infected district?
>>315510054
The first day has a short and kinda boring main quest
The second day is when shit starts getting real
By the third day the town starts going to shit
If you don't know where to go just press q and check the main quest tab. If it has *** then its over and all there is left for that day is sidequests.
>>
reminder that looting piss filter houses is always worth because the bullet you use to kill the ninja looters are paid back by the crowbars they drop bartering with guards
>>
>>315510282
11/10 Among the several twists at the end of the game, the game basically opens with you (the player) being told that you are an actor in the game only taking the role of the character you choose. The game has a large number of theatrical themes that appear in plays. It's very surreal.

No idea on the remake ETA. Very disturbing and spooky. Not really spooky in a regular sense.
>>
>>315505934

>says the tripfag who still watches anime
>>
>>315510282
>What is the ETA on the remake?
I'd expect alpha/beta next year, doubt they'll finish the full game by then.
>Is this a spooky game?
There are no jumpscares. It's more about constant feeling of dread than scares in your usual sense. Think playing Silent Hill 2 before you meet first monsters.
>how does it scale on the mindfuck-o-meter
It's very strange in general, but ending is definitely 9-10/10. The game also likes to throw curve balls. It makes you forget the rules of normal world and immerses you into its own world, just to break newly established rules later. *cough* Albino *cough*
>>
>>315510502
Hm, I kind of doubt anything can top ever17, to be honest, but I do like what I'm hearing. I can deal with surreal. I like surreal. Always had a mild passing interest in the game, and related games I've seen discussed and mentioned over the years, but never enough to really delve into it.

I feel that I've consumed so much media that I'm now desperate for anything that doesn't follow the beaten path, and is as 'out-there' as possible. I don't know a better way to explain it. It's as if nothing surprises or shocks me too much anymore.

>>315510827
>I'd expect alpha/beta next year
Ouch. To be expected, though.

>Think playing Silent Hill 2 before you meet first monsters

So its a walking simulator?
>>
>>315515176
It's a getting killed by spetsnaz knife throwing hobo simulator.
>>
>>315515068
Hell it isn't even day by day. Even on the first day, the very person you came to this town to see dies and after finding out where the person who saw him last lives you find out he is dead as well.

Its just a never ending spiral of shit going from worse to just burn it all down.
>>
>>315515176
It's a plague doctor simulator
>>
>>315515176
Walking is a big part of the game. A large portion of it consist of going from A to B, talking to one guy and then dealing with another.

But of course it isn't that simple. On the way from point B you have to look out for trash cans from which you can scavenge empty bottles and nicknacks which you can then trade for very valuable items. You also have to be mindful of choosing the best path through the town, as the map does not show all the various dead ends and shortcuts ( I actually just started drawing my own, so as to mark which shops are where ( Fuck Vlad, I ain't paying 1k Rubles for a piece of paper )).

And thats just the first day. If you haven't guessed already, shit hits the fan in this game and then it proceeds to spin until the fan is on fire and the entire room is burning. And covered in shit.

So yes it is indeed a walking simulator. Walking through an infected town in the steppes.
>>
I've heard lots of good things about this game and it seems intriguing. However I'm a total casual, terrible at survival games. Will it be too hard for me?
>>
>>315515847
Nah, actually it depends upon your own will on how hard you want it to be, since you can potentially save scum your way through it with relative ease.

But that isn't the heart of a survival game, its being completely beaten down by circumstances, by your own mistakes or that of the world and somehow getting through it with an inch of your life.

There is a definite failure state where you can really fuck up at an earlier point in the game, only for it to dawn on you that you have no chance of winning later in the game. But don't let that depress you. Because then the plague wins.

I would be too if I graduated from medical college and I was sent to a backwards hick town full of superstitious retards that won't follow even the simplest of my instructions to stem the tide of an apocalyptic plague.

It's said every thread, but this game is absolutely brilliant in how it gets you into the same mindset of the character you're playing through nothing more than dialogue and game mechanics.

The game never has to tell you "The Bachelor was getting exasperated" because you, yourself, are getting fucking exasperated.

Can't wait for the Remake. After getting to Bachelor Day 5, I literally just Alt-Tabbed, donated $25 to IPL, then went back to playing HD.

If they can keep the game 90% similar, but bring the graphics and gameplay mechanics (UI, quest tracking, etc) into the modern age, it has the chance to be one of the defining games of its generation and the new shining beacon of unique originality in the vidya industry.

When the Remake comes out, I'm going to quarantine myself and play it for a week straight.

That's how you enjoy Pathologic. You give, not take from the game. You should feel drained, because that's how it was intended to be. There's a great review of this game on RPS and all people that enjoyed the game or want to get into it should read. It's not completely spoiler free though, so bear that in mind.

This game is kinda unique in that there aren't many "gamey" consequences for being a dick and stealing/keeping money that people give you.

So if someone asks you to collect money to donate to a shelter, and you decide to instead donate it to your own wallet, the only real consequence is that you have to live with the fact that you're a self-serving piece of shit.

No guns, low health, few bandages, running off novocaine and 2 hour naps, drinking infected heart slurry and coughing up blood because I can't afford fancy science drugs because the prices are higher than day 2 shenanigans, running low on food and the only thing I have a lot of is human blood.

I've been crashing on the Bachelor's pad every night, too tired to make it back to the factory after slogging all the way across town to do this city boy's dirty work. He doesn't seem to mind but Eve's been giving me bloodstains on my jacket weird looks.

>>315526140
because it is admittedly pretty confusing in exactly what you're getting.

Either way, I would never touch the original again now that we have this glorious HD remaster.
>>
>>315526271
Classic HD, and depends on what you want it on. Steam I think you'll get it right away, GOG I think they were still ironing out the issues with how to give people the right keys and what if they already had the old TL one.

The entire reason they put out the HD rerelease was because they looked at the original and went 'oh fuck this is unreadable we can't give this out to people'. Pretty neat of them.
>>
>>315526724
>pretty neat of them

Seriously, what cool fucking devs. They could've let it just rot but they decided to upgrade the visuals and give it one of the best translation jobs I've ever seen. The game went from "barely comprehensible", passed by "good enough", and landed square in "wow, this is actually really damn good".
>>
>>315527929
It worries me a bit that they took time off of the remake to do this, especially since it was such a good job they must have dedicated a significant amount of resources to finishing it.
>>
>>315528110
They outsourced the graphics bit to another company so that didn't cost them anything but money. The translation was done by the in-house lady, but since they have to write up the script for the remake before she can translate it I doubt it really set them back much if at all. And if any of the conversations are re-used, then they're already done.

Don't buy weapons, it's a waste of money, you get enough weapons for free if you pay attention and side-quests.
>>
>>315529708
There's a revolver that you can get at the first day as a Bachelor (I hope you're playing him for your sanity's sake). There are also shops, but you shouldn't buy weapons there, as the guy before said. Scalpel is actually much better than it looks.
>>
>>315529708
You find many weapons throughout the game. You'll sell them more often than you ammo for them.
Also, Melee is mostly, stepping backwards, wait for the enemy to enter a Punch Motion, step forward while pressing melee, stab, repeat.

Haruspex is anti-hero, so he loses the "good guy" competition before it even starts.

You can, and should, multi-task. Look at your quest objectives. Look at your map. Where do you need to go? Who do you need to talk to? What do you need to do?

Once you've answered these questions, use your map to plan an efficient path through the town that lets you hit all your objectives with minimal wandering.

The daily time limit can get pretty tense, but for the most part you'll be fine as long as you're constantly moving and accomplishing things. You'd REALLY have to waste some fucking time (ignore quests and sleep all day, for example) before you found yourself well and truly fucked.

It's kind of like a simplified version of those open-world trading/combat sims like Freelancer, Space Rangers or Pirates, just that in addition to the difficulties you have in those games due to being overwhelmed by choices, you'll have no clue what's going on because it takes place in some weird alien insect world.

You'll be very surprised when you realize that super secret true ending can be achieved only by listening to the shitton of backstory.

>>315541357
You can jump right in. The most common danger for new players is the controls that you need to get used to. After a few deaths you'll get a general idea of how to survive.
>>
>>315541357

I don't think you can really screw yourself over really, there's not that much in terms of ressource management and choice and consequence, at least not to the extent it is in IPL games.

It is a pretty tough game to get into though, more in terms of just figuring out what the hell is even going on. I'd say you can jump in, but shouldn't feel bad about looking things up 'n stuff.

Combat/driving can also be really frsustrating at first because you'll literally be bounced around by anything bigger than you, which is almost everything.

If you're a cool guy you'll make your own encyclopedia as you go along for all the weird terms though

>>
>>315544262
The game isn't exactly streaming material unless the one streaming it can keep the audience entertained by talking because you'll be either watching the player travel from point A to point B or watching him talk to various NPC's.
>>
TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS:

Keep your money around. Don't buy stuff unless you need it. Some quests require A LOT of cash.
Learn to trade and who trade with. The very little girls are the most important, as they rarely trade powder. So keep around 10 needles or such so you can buy it. Don't waste your time talking with them otherwise. Stock up on bullets with the other kids (they don't carry the good meds until later). Also, very important, trade with drunks. Bandages are very useful since health becomes a hassle to deal with later on.
Do NOT use powders unless you have to (like a really high automatic infection). You can use the powders on NPCs if they get sick, and it's an instacure. Talk to the plague doctors outside of their residence if you need to cure an NPC.
Do NOT be afraid of getting sick. Infection is very easy to control with antibiotics. As long as it's really low, it will spread very slowly and you can pop a pill morning and night to keep it minimal. Antibiotics make you sleepy and take away health, so keep that in mind.
Food prices skyrocket on day 2. Buy all you can to eat (after all other expenses are taken care of) on day 1. Prices will go down gradually on day 3 and on.
Trade for lockpicks when you can. Open up a house and then ransack it. Do not open cabinets while men are looking, since they will attack you. Women and girls just run away. Use this to get food and emergency supplies when you need them.
Don't panic with time. You have enough time to get everything done in a day, including side quests, if you wake up at 7am. Earlier time is of no consequence outside of a few specific events. So sleep 12-7. Also, time does no move when you are examining letters, quests, and the map.
Buy or get Morphine or something similar. Take it before bed and it will help you heal up for the next day - if you are infected, pop an antibiotic while you're at it.
Don't go hunting in infected houses. Unless you are really prepared for it, it's generally too risky.

CONTINUED

Melee combat is a crap shoot unless you're facing butchers or clay men. Or just average citizens. Learn to use the revolver and keep it nice and clean (to repair weapons, talk to the older citizen wearing work attire). Headshots are an auto kill on humans.
Locked district houses have good stuff, but you will fight marauders. They do not fuck around. Shoot them, do NOT try to hand to hand them. They are fast and strong.
Clothing (slowly) degrades as you wear it and when you get hit with something. Talk to women to repair it. Generally speaking, take it off when you're just wandering around, since it's not really necessary. But do put it on when you might face danger.
Reputation is important. Try not to kill citizens just because they have something, though sometimes it's necessary. You can get buy without murder if you plan ahead, stock up on food, and trade when you can.
CHECK TRASH BINS. They are the best source of income since you can trade junk with kids and so on. Fill up water bottles especially to trade with drunks.
Learn the layout of the town. It's important to hit all the necessary quest points so you don't double back too much. Wasting time=bad.
You can hunt bandits at night, 22-7. It can be profitable, but remember that if you're using bullets, you're spending about 1200 per shot. So do so only when you have bullets to spare.
If you enter a building and exit, the outside resets. Useful if you need to duck away from enemies, like rats chasing you. Don't waste your time on rats, by the way.
Store your inventory when you don't need it. Excess food, night meds, etc, just put it away until you can use it. Inventory can get stuffed with a lot of objects.
>>
>>315545860

Wait so how does storage work? I just pick a house I go near a lot and put my things in a cabinet and it doesn't eventually disappear?
>>
>>315545860
Another random tip that could save a lot of wasted travel -- you can sleep in any of your Adherents' beds (hit 'T' to see your Adherents). You don't have to walk back to Eva's every night. I tend to sleep at the Olgimsky's or the Saburov's due to their mostly-central location.
>>
>>315546168
I store my excess stuff in the bedside table in your 2nd floor room at Eva Yan's house. I know for a fact nothing placed in there will ever disappear. As for other storage locations, no idea.
>>
>>315546274
I didn't actually know this. I mean, I read something about it before, but I guess I never tried it. But then again, I keep all my stuff in one location.

>>315546168
Only store stuff in a container that you have access to, that is located in a safe house (Adherent house). I believe you can store stuff in other houses, but if they get infected, their inventory should reset. So don't do that. Also, if you drop anything on the floor and enter/exit a house, it's GONE. This can prevent you from finishing the stuff if the item was important to the quest.

>>
>>315551564
>Is this game scary?
It can be really creepy and at moments, it can be terrifying, but never in the classic horror sense. It's more an overarching sense of dread than fear. It's not about the fear that something might jump on you. Rather it's about seeing a plagued house filled with flies and hear people whinning in pain and finding the whole situation hopeless and grim. You don't fear the situation, you might feel intimidated by the whole scenario.
It also works with emotions such as feeling of helplessness, anger, exhaustion.

>>
>>315553012
>Is the town inside a cow???
The town Is the cow. More precisely, the whole town is build in a shape of a cow. Even the names of the district reflect that. A Cow (or more precisely Bull is one of the ways people imagine Boddo, the god or goddess that is supposed to literally represent earth. So in a way, the the town is build on the body of Boddo, that is on a body of a giant bull. It's a metaphysical image, of course.

Depends on if you seriously want to escape or not. Making calculations about what is worth and not worth doing in this game outside of essentially roleplaying is just detrimental to the experience. One of the most interesting things about the game is how the quests, rewards, and goals are handled in the game: but for them to work properly, you always need to avoid metagaming as much as you can.

Did you finish the whole thing? It's got awful, awful pacing and if I hear one more time about chicken sandwiches I'll scream bloody murder but the true route was some pretty severe mindfucks.

Of course then the writer milks the exact same twist two more times and possibly three more with 999, VLR, and the upcoming ZTE.

I'm losing health constantly and I don't think I'm infected. When I sleep I still lose a huge chunk every hour, am I missing something obvious?

I bring you love.

Sleep till like midnight then go out hunting thieves at night for extra dosh and tradeables. Watch out for their stupidly OP knife throw, especially with Bachelor's shitty strafe.

You might be bleeding. Got any bandages?

but I read in one of these threads that killing thieves might bring some problems to me

Nah I only got the ending where I sacrificed myself for monster girl! before my NEET life ended, but I was pretty disappointed by monster girlall the same.
Someone got my hopes up a little too high was all and the story went in a weirdly written direction that I just couldn't appreciate.
I'll check out the other endings one day but enough of my shitposting, finally downloading this shit in HD.

Also a question, did they improve movement speed with this or would that be game breaking?

Monster girl? But yeah if you'd only done one route I can very much understand your confusion/disappointment/rage. It's poorly thought out, you gotta hang in there for like 20 hours of boring to get to the payoff.

Anyway Pathologic takes way less time to get interesting. And yeah, it's a little faster. Used to be moving at a diagonal was slightly faster so you'd have to lurch sideways through the streets, now that's the default speed.

Gives you an extra hour a day or so in terms of advantage, and you'll still probably be pressed for time some days.

Ah. It seems I mean Tsugumi.
Had to see exactly what the deal was with her again.
Also thanks for the info on the increased movement speed.

This is getting ridiculous.

Why can't there be a 'take Eve, go back to the Capital and fuck like rabbits for the rest of your lives' ending?
>>
>>315566191
Powers That Be won't have none of it. You don't really have anything left back home anyway, they've seen to it. They really, really want you to fix this backasswater town.

Steppe spirit. You won't understand what that is unless you play the game. Part of the fun of playing as the Bachelor is that HE doesn't understand what it is either.
