AlphA sapphire was awful.

I started playing Star Sapphire now that romhacks are playable without a Gateway.

The difficulty was great until I got to Roxanne. Any sense of balance was thrown out the window.

why do you have only four pokemon? There's dozens you could have caught in the areas up to that point. If you want to swap out something for a new one later then you can do so without remorse, the gen 5 games (Black/White and the sequels) have scaling EXP gains so lower level monsters catch up quick.

I haven't played Pokemon since my Y version playthrough, I was kinda put off by what I saw and heard of ORAS despite gen 3 being my second favourite after gen 5. Maybe I'll pick up Alpha Sapphire at some point, though. I make it a point not to plan things out too much, it just sucks the fun out of trying new things in each game. Though I would have to pick Treecko as starter for old times' sake in ORAS' case.

The thing is, you need to realize that you don't need to match the NPC trainers' levels. Ever. Just build a balanced team with good type coverage and slap the HMs you need somewhere in there, use basic strategy like stat boosting moves/status conditions/switching pokemon (and if all else fails use a bunch of potions) and you will never run into trouble unless you're playing some crazy romhack like >>315380261

No problem, a lot of the time /v/irgins take offense to the suggestion that they're making their experience with a Pokemon game worse by grinding when I see no reason to. In Gold/Silver/Crystal and HeartGold/SoulSilver, Red's team is in the lv80 range, yet I usually reach his doorstep and beat him with my team in the 50-60 range. Of course, his levels are way inflated because he's a single trainer as opposed to the gauntlet that the League challenge + regional Champ offers in most other games. But it's all always doable, if not by pure strategy, then at least through attrition and abusing bad AI. And I say that's a lot more interesting and satisfactory than just steamrolling everything through overleveling.

And hey, the gen 6 games now have the new and revised Exp Share that was pretty much made for people who like grinding, so those people can be appeased too.

I recently tried the new pokemans too. The only difference is I'm playing through a 151 hack of black 2. I have to say the hack is adding quite a lot in terms of variety, and challenge in the gyms. Being that I play pokemans casually I was actually forced to look up counters and what have you in order to progress through these gyms. If you're interested in checking it out it also has a black1 counterpart and they both go by the name 'Blazing Black'.

I just got an emulator on my phone so I can play a ROM hack of Pokemon Crystal. I've played Gen 1 to death and decided to get into Gen 2 again. The hack I'm playing, Crystal Kaizo, includes all 251 Pokemon (with a secret 252nd Pokemon) since you can't exactly trade with real people. Not only that, it makes the overall game more difficult. Gym leaders all have six Pokemon including some curve balls that will counter whatever Pokemon they're supposed to be weak against. Dungeons and maze areas are completely reconstructed for fresh puzzle areas. It's fucking sick and really makes me engrossed in my playthrough. Oh, and I picked based Totodile.

I just finished Pokemon tumblr edition (aka reborn), it was actually not too bad, aside from the forced as shit gender progressiveness and erratic difficulty curve.

When HANS got released I started playing Neo Y and Rutile Ruby. Rutile Ruby is hard as balls but quite fun, though the wild encounters aren't very interesting and the gym leaders are stressful as hell because they have smogon-tier teams and I don't have the resources yet to compete with that. Neo Y has good wild encounters but the trainer battles are hard. And not in a good way like Rutile Ruby, just retarded level scaling and impossible movesets.
Also started a Firered randomiser a while ago, and am like almost done Crystal. I've got like 10 saves going at once fuck

I always end up out leveling all the trainers because I battle every single one in every corner of the room and end up with more xp than what the designers would expect a kid to have for each gym. Battle every trainer and finish off some wild pokemon now and then. Also basic strategy should help you win as well, the game is designed for kids to beat afterall.

If Hg/SS had a better level curve, it would be perfect.
BW2 gives you a wide variety of Pokemon to play around with, the NPCs have charm, the cities and environments are also enjoyable, and Johto has no Hydreigon.

I just don't like gen 2's level scaling and monster availability. Every other player's team ends up looking the same and the game crams two short regions into the same length as the other games in the series. HGSS repeat these mistakes and also suffer from gen 4's slow-ass engine on top of it.
