Only because nothing could live up to the expectations /v/ set for it. The game is far more than good, it's fucking outstanding, but /v/ overhyped it, and as a result, many were disappointed.
FO4 is lucky in that it doesn't seem to be getting any praise or hype from /v/, so it can't fall victim to overhype.

I think the main reason why they did this is for the voice acting. I guess it's a trade off for less information for more voice acting. Honestly I don't know what I'll like more, but I did love the fallout dialogue system, especially the comedic ones.

I dont. I know it wont be some amazing genre defining game or some utter failure. Its just an enjoyable game for people who like Post Apoc RPGs.

In particular I like the new settlements, customization and perk system. Should be interesting to see what modders do with each.

There's a reason why Bethesda is well known in the gaming world. They make good fucking games, my mom a 45 year old women loves Skyrim and Fallout. I also know some hardcore gamers that love both. Honestly, if this weren't branded as "Fallout 4," I most likely wouldn't feel so much disdain toward it.

As it stands though, all I see is a mediocre action game with light RPG elements slapped on wherever they fit.

Toddposting is as forced of a meme as Millhouse.
Mass Effect did the same approach to dialogue and more linearized storytelling and at least the first game did it well.

People hate Bethesda because of wonky animations and bugs, not because of the game quality.
The dialogue in FO4 has already been proven to be better written AND better voiced than every single bit of FO3.
The gunplay would be just as servicable in a real TPS, despite it being a Bethesda game.

The RPG elements of this RPG have been stripped down to the bone and from what we've seen its closer to Borderlands 2 with SPECIAL being skill trees, rather than a Fallout game.

The voice protag, of course and the fact that he comments on little things (like a successful hack or lockpick) and that the male voice actor sounds flat and emotionless from what we've heard.

The awful animations and lipsync that make Fallout 3 look good by comparison.

The awful world generation and its inability to form shadows more than 30 feet away.

Giving the player power armor within the first few minutes

Mandatory unkillable companions

Giving the character a wife and child and expecting the player to care in a game where they can choose to play as a mutant cannibal or as Jesus

Super Mutants return for no reason because no one can think of a greater threat, so we're gonna get another FEV subplot.

Mexican leaker has already revealed that most of the time the dialogue system does not do what you want it to, 2/4 options are usually "I have to go" in various tones and you can only ask each NPC a single description question.

The colors are all really overstated and the contrast is noticeably turned up to make the game appear next gen, but instead it just gives me a headache.

I mean, I'm a huge Fallout fan.
For the past 10 Years, I've played Fallout 1 and 2 once a year, but still I just can't imagine Fallout 4 being any good.

Lip sync has someone gotten worse
Dialog wheel and voiced protagonist have distilled dialog into only 4 possible responses. Even Mass Effect had 6.
Animations are still extremely sub par
Skills have been gutted and rolled into perks
The majority of perks are simply incremental damage/resistance buffs and a few of them sound game breaking (reflecting bullets to kill ranged enemies)

This is the same year that gave us MGS5 and Witcher 3 and yet this game looks like something that should have come out in 2012. And that's me being generous.

I've seen multiple videos and responses from a mexican reviewer.

I don't hate it, I was never a true fallout fan in the first place, this means little to me.

But I liked the leveling system of new vegas better than skyrim, some perks were unique and interesting, sure you had retarded shit like one perk giving 5 more skills point in survival which was useless, but it was better than the "20%" more armor/damage you see all the time in skyrim.

They got the dialogue wheel from mass effect instead of using the one from human revolution, I am a huge mass effect fan but the dialogue wheel was retarded as fuck.

And sadly you can't create your own robots, the robots in the fallout universe were always more interesting than the 40k power amor bullshit.

Guess I will just wait for the creation kit to come out and for the mods to start rolling.

People were really excited for a sequel to a game series that they love and it's being made by a big, experienced game developer who has the budget to make a great game - they also already have a reputation for making fun sandbox games that lets you sink dozens of hours into it exploring the world.

Then you keep getting met with lackluster teasers - things from the sequels are already looking worse than stuff from the previous games, so once again Bethesda is removing or shrinking content for something that's supposed to be a direct successor and improvement.

I'll still get it, try it and most likely atleast enjoy myself and sink a decent amount of time in it but I don't have my fingers crossed that's it's going to be the HOLY SHIT GAME OF THE CENTURY that it has the potential to be, like Skyrim had but failed to deliver on.

The dialogue wheel and the voiced protagonist ruin the roleplaying for me. I don't know what I'm saying, I don't have much to say, and I'm stuck with one bland voice for almost every interaction in the game. The backstory they force upon you only makes matters worse; you're married and you have a child and lovely suburban home. You're a distinguished vet or a doting housewife. You're either tough or sentimental if Pagliarulo's description of the VAs' performances is anything to go by. You're playing Bethesda's character, and Bethesda can't write a good character to save its life.

The new leveling system is terrible, consisting almost entirely of percentile increases because quantity > quality and designing interesting, balanced perks is hard. There aren't any checks outside of the occasional CHA save. SPECIAL training is now classed as seven different perks.

Animations are hilariously bad, especially so when games like TW3, MGSV, or even HL2/VtMB exist. It's fucking shameful how bad a lot of shit looks, from the UI to the lipsync. The review embargo doesn't come up until 7 hours beforehand, which is almost always a terrible fucking sign.

It's more that they have no idea what to do with their specific branch of Gamebryo. It's got a lot of problems hardbaked into it that they'll never be able to fix, most of them having to do with optimization, movement, and AI. All of which are kind of crucial for having a polished experience.

Because I'm fucking tired of Bethesda not finishing their games. They sell their games in a late alpha to early beta stage at this point.

The reason it's so maddening is because the games are full of potential. Fallout has a really great wealth of lore and the premise is awesome for games, but every fucking time we're fed this Gamebryo shit. And don't tell me it's not the same engine. It has been upgraded slightly, but we've still have the stiff, clunky, awkward body and face animations, subpar textures, and lazy coding.

It might be cheap for them to reuse the same crude engine and primitive coding that they've been clinging to since days of yore, but I think it's due time that they're dev team learn some new tricks, maybe go back to fucking school.

We all want to love each new installment of FO4, but we also want it to live up to its potential as a 21st century game. This is a disservice to the franchise to keep pushing out these half-way hot mess games.

Why? Because if you've seen any of the leaked gameplay footage than you'd know it looks like complete shit. I was irked when they shown the dialogue wheel and voiced player character but I thought I'd wait and see if it could at least be salvageable.
After seeing the videos showing how they handled dialogue it looked so bad I wanted to show up in my mouth. They completely ruined fallout. It looks 10x worse than skyrim. Everything in it looks and sounds terrible. The voice acting, gameplay, graphics fucking everything.

I don't understand the family hate part. The previous game has you as someones Son, or as a Courier. Before that you were the son of a tribe leader and a vault dweller before that. They have given you the basis of who the character is, it's up to you to act them out in a way you find defines the character. Sure i was the son of a scientist in a vault but i was also a cannibal. This game goes out of its way to define relationships with those people; it was actually a pretty bad problem in Fallout 3 as every conversation with your dad turned you into an angsty teenager regardless of your character. There were next to no strings attach in New Vegas and it was easy to justify any sort of backstory with plenty of options to act accordingly. Here, you have to be a loving father who swears revenge and shit. That's your motivation. It's considerably more open ended in previous titles. This is a much more defined character, now.

I'm actually excited about all the changes. After seeing the leaks I realized it probably won't be a good Fallout game but it is definitely going to be a good Mass Effect game. I hope the tone survives the change in setting.

Although after seeing the leaks my biggest worry has shifted to the graphics. I don't usually give a shit but I honestly couldn't tell what was what and that's a bare minimum. Get your shit together, Bethesda.

You get my drift there, the only difference here is that you know that your character has a family. That's defined, it's being used as a plot point to drive a narrative, something that is essential to any story based game.

I mean, i understand where you're coming from but i reckon you're blowing it a bit out of the water by saying you want be able to define what kind of character you are just because you have a family.

I am excited for it. The Fallout franchise has always been my favorite series, so I'm excited to see what Bethesda has done with this one. I enjoy Fallout for its story, not necessarily its gameplay. If I have a fun time playing it, I could care less about its inevitable bugs and flaws.

Not hate, just disappointment because given who is behind it and said people's recent track record, it won't be as good as New Vegas and not even in the same league as 1 and 2, which is sad because it easily could be if it was in the hands of a different studio.

My only real gripes with the game are the stupid dialog UI and the leveling/skill system.
