Also, never ever trust a developer when them mention how big their game world is. The most accurate way to measure is to fine one end of the world, and walk to the other at normal walking speed and measure how long it took. Every hour is 3.5 miles.

Most games you can walk across the world in less than an hour but they boast shit like 256 square miles of area or some shit.

It's not hard to be honest, especially with fallout 3 since most of it is literally wasteland with nothing and I mean NOTHING in it, DC is completely copy pasted underground shit with 10 unique vistas at best and millions of invisible walls, New Vegas is by far more open despite the stupid invisible walls, it also has more meaningful content as a whole, it's also cohesive and makes sense both for the world and the setting, the Capital Wasteland has no business being like that in THAT specific year...like...at all.

I lined up the major roads and fit them so they have the same width. Now it's very possible that either game will have different road sizes, but this comparison seems the most fair. It was originally planned that there was going to be a "Legion side" of the map, but it was cancelled due to time constraints.
Such a shame as well, since the intention was to show you how life in the Legion actually looked like, rather than just the military side of things we eventually saw in NV.
We would have seen that there are almost no gangs or raiders in Legion territory, people are safe, have access to food and water, and there is no corrupt, bloated bureaucracy.
Everything would have been highly efficient, but we would also have seen the brutality involved (slave ownership, harsh punishments for breaking the law, moral policing).

We would have gotten a proper view of both the New California Republic and Caesar's Legion, both the good and the bad.
Instead the Legion come off as the obvious "bad guys" and the NCR look like the "good guys" until you start to look deeper into them.

It's not even the size that made it boring. Large parts of it consisted of just dull desert with nothing on it. It only confirmed what I'd been already convinced of. Desert setting in an rpg is always boring.
