How's the demo?

It's pretty safe to say that YW won't kill Pokemon worldwide and its Japanese reputation as the Pokemon Killer was only a fad, but I'm still looking forward to the game. Other than recolors having different stats/soultimates/typing, the second game's variation of shiny is...weird.
They are only minor changes to a character, like having a swirl on Komasan's belly turned around. So basically it's only a minor aesthetic change.
However, said 'shinies' are indeed more powerful than the standard version.

For anyone curious about the stats growth mechanic:
Stat System "features" (note that standard level is 60):
"IVs": Variance is small and your rolls will tend to be stable, with "extreme" rolls - and by that I mean like 5 more/less than the average - being relatively rare. Stat totals will be extremely stable because the game has max/min "IV" totals.
Natures: Every time you gain exp, you get hidden points towards a stat or stats depending on your nature. Yo-Kai will usually come with a decent nature. Nature also decides your Yo-Kai's AI, but I've tested it and you can use one nature for stat growth and then switch to the one you want for its AI.

And when fusing two Yo-Kai it will do some averaging magic to maintain a total of 26-sh or lower across the board.
Training: Each Yo-Kai can be trained at a certain facility up to 5 times. You can choose between:
+5 Attack, -2 Defense
+5 Defense, -2 Speed
+5 Spirit Power, -2 Speed
+5 Speed, -2 Defense
You can also reset your Yo-Kai's training at will.
There's also equipment of course. You can turn a Yo-Kai medal into a soul, which you can level up by feeding it other souls. You can also fuse certain ones into souls that basically have an ability's affect with no level. Souls will generally either give your Yo-Kai a stat boost, give them an ability, or enhance their Inspiriting.

In the second game, some recolors and weaker yo-kai are granted a second equipment slot to help even the odds.

I was told the demo is absolutely nothing like the main game itself, so how is it?

In his first episode, Jinmenken's public urination was censored out, then it wasn't explained why he got arrested.

You can still play the game without touchscreen, in that you ca navigate the menu in battle with circle pad, L/R triggers rotating the watch, circle pad and holding A to do the usual things. You'll go much slower in doing soultimates/purifying, but it can be done.

How do you guys get rid of a yo-kai that keeps blurting out spoilers?

I would love to see an episode where a new kid comes to school, but he has downs.

He begins drooling everywhere, disrupting the class, shitting his pants in public.

Keita and Whisper are like, THERE MUST BE A YO-KAI HAUNTING HIM!

And the rest of the episode is just Keita scanning his watch on this downs kid trying to find the spooky ghost.

The gameplay is pretty straightforward. Yo-kai fight for you and you play support, commanding soultimates, purifying allies, targeting yo-kai, using items to heal-give direct command, and witching around yo-kai when needed.
You can tinker with the AI using books to modify their attitude until they're the kind of yo-kai you want.
Demo doesn't explain much about the gameplay though..
Boss fights do require some preparation before beginning though and strategizing.

The demo really should have been the start of the actual retail game and then once you get past the first boss they ask you to buy it or something with save data transferring over. It's a real annoyance that you couldn't really edit anything at all, and to figure out what anything does you had to use it in-battle which was also irritating, unless I missed something in the menus it wouldn't let me navigate.

I don't remember exactly, but a bonus dungeon gets unlocked if you have a YKW1 save file ready. In addition, a few yo-kai medals transfer over, but don't work with your watch, so you have to go and befriend them again to recollect those few that get transferred over.

I gotta be honest, nothing has really sold me on this.

I played the demo, it was interesting but I don't know if I can pay full price for it.

It's nice that the Pokeformula has been shook up a bit and that in Japan they sell a lot to force GameFreak to get off their asses.

This game does make me feel like I might be too old to really appreciate it. Like you have to watch the show and be in that frame of mind to enjoy it.

One thing I really like about the anime is that overall it's a comedy and it's very outrageous and silly about 90% of the time, but that other 10% it actually steps back and talks about a topic seriously. could maybe do with a bit on the legendaries but maybe that's a bit more in depth than intro guides. The game has a lot to it even though on a base level you can get by pretty much by winging most of the game
