Go with IV then, or Nocturne if you don't have a 3DS.

IV is the best starting point. I wouldn't really recommend nocturne just because it's really different compared to the rest of the series

Nocturne is a bit weird if you haven't played any of the series because it doesn't explain what spell names or items mean during battle, Digital Devil Saga and SMTIV are preferable for a first game because of this
