If you want to be a warrior with little risk and maximum swordplay/kickery, max out the melee stuff and go just far enough into magic to get heal. It essentially turns every mana potion in 2 healing potions.

If you want wacky skating rink adventures, go mage.

If you want to 1shot everything but bosses, go thief.

Sword-based Melee is definitely what the game was built around

It's up to you. You get points every now and then to put in skills, you can control every aspect of what your character learns or doesn't learn, there's skills trees. They're basic, but easy to look through and see what you wanna get.

Also, git gud at throwing shit. Throwing heavy barrels and crates at people will down 90% of enemies and open them up for a stab, don't be afraid to dash around like a retard and start throwing barrels like a chimp. Especially against mages.

go thief mage mix. lure enemies around corners with an arrow. they slip on a patch of ice, backstab them while they're down

The best way to play is to specialise in anything that enables more environmental fighting.

E.g. telepathy to throw objects
Ice to slip people over
Fire to light barrels on fire then throw said barrels at enemies

Any abilities for mobility, utility, environment, physics.
Don't play as if you want to hit them to death, but rather find physics based ways to kill.
It made my replay 10/10.

Pure warrior is great if you learn the OP wrecking ball that is the leaping slash, I HIGHLY recommend it if you haven't played with it, especially when you get a big weapon like the orc cleaver.

You get a good kill with it, you will literally send enemies flying to the moon if you land it right, so satisfying.

Nah, for some reason the lean and the left/right buttons were swapped.
Just killed the cyclops.
Can't believe how good this game looks for a 2006 game.
Plus the town actually feels alive, plenty of NPC's talking and doing stuff

Personally I always played a mix of stealth and combat, you have enough points to invest.

High level stealth allows you to instakill anyone that didn't spot you with a backstab which is sweet. There's also a master thief suit (with a reference to Garret) that makes you less visible in the shadow.
On the other hand it's really fun to run around with the powerranger theme tune whilst wielding a giant red glowing sword/blue glowing staff etc.

I went mage on my last playthrough and it got boring as hell. There are just not enough fun spells and your mana will be used up pretty fast. Go thief or warrior with some spells on the side instead.

If you go for a second playthrough, give yourself some skillpoints in console and mess around with the enemies. Great game for several playthrough and trying new ways of killing things.

Recommend using mind control a lot.
