No, it's because piracy is morally wrong and hurts the industry as a whole.
People in 2015 finally became more aware of the rules governing the economy and got more sensitive to the injustice.

Dev here. Piracy is good, at least for our ego. And it's not like we could do something against it anyways, so we might as well embrace it. Don't believe the publishers, most of us are getting a hate boner when we see our product up on warez sites weeks before release. It makes us feel important.
>>
>>291159908
what if pirating video games is my hobby?
>>
I pirated Pillars of Eternity and Divinity Original Sin because paying more than $30 for a video game is foolish.

I'll buy them both once they're on sale under $30 and replay them again. Then I will have the added advantage of easy access to them whenever I want to replay it, and it will give me a larger steam library.

>Grand Theft Auto V Steam Records
[Apr 16, 2015, 11:07 am ET] - 48 Comments
Grand Theft Auto V has set a new Steam record for peak concurrent users by a game not developed by Valve, reports GamesIndustry.biz. They say the game's peak yesterday of 300,452 concurrent Steam users broke a record held by The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which had about 280K peak users upon release. This means today's total of 301,246 is also a new record, though it's hard to say what this represents, since not all users are playing the game through Steam. Thanks Polygon via nin.

There are only a few games these days that can keep me hooked for more than a couple of hours. I pirate them to see if they're worth my money or if they will hook me up enough to justify their price.

If I look at a game and I'm not sure if I'll like it, I probably wouldn't buy it anyway unless I could test it somehow.
If I end up liking the game then I actually end up buying it, so piracy actually helps me decide whether I'll buy a game, as if I couldn't pirate it, I'd probably ignore it completely.

I'm pro piracy. Because there's no demos.

It gives us customers more power to evaluate whether the people selling the games and the journalists who review the games are talking out of their ass or not.

I buy good games. I don't want to pay for, or play shit games.

If there's no demo, I feel fully justified in pirating to test them first.
>>
>>291166540
Did you rate it? The rating didnt show up still on my end, i refreshed the page and everything.

Try again.
>>
Video games are multi-media art projects. I don't pirate because the artists and creative minds in the industry who actually turn out good work deserve to be paid for that work, as any artist worth his salt in any industry deserves to be. I don't even buy the idea of "respectable piracy", IE pirating only bad companies or games, since the best message to send to companies that make shitty games or have shitty practices is to avoid their products entirely no matter what.
>>
I pirate when it's convenient. Like, if it's easier for me to buy a game, I will. If it's easier to pirate I will. If I want to play something and the torrent for it is going to take longer to download than it would to run to the store or download from an online retailer, then fuck it, I'll buy it. Otherwise if it's faster/easier whatever I'll pirate it.

Also I don't seed. I never understood the 'honor amongst thieves' mentality where everyone feels the need to seed for each other. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that said mentality exists so I can keep getting free stuff easily but I don't get it.

not really. I didn't word it like "are you supportive of piracy" but rather "are you all right with piracy".
It's more accurate that way, in the same way that some people are OK with gay marriage but are morally opposed to it.

I suppose I could have worded it "are you OK with piracy" too but there's not really any need for clarification since everybody knows that pirates pirate.
The other three answers are throwaway.

Or they would do an assessment of the game and find where they went wrong, as per a normal software lifecycle.
They would most likely realize the game's buggy as shit, the marketing was bad, the game wasn't interesting or the gameplay was boring. If millions bought GTA week one then there's clearly a large group of people willing to pay money, so why weren't they paying money for this game?

No-one's opposed to the occasional piracy. It's those who do it all the time, for every little thing, and act all in your face about it. No-one wants to see that shit.
I've pirated Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee because that was the only way to get it working on my current PC. It just wouldn't work from the disc.

I would rather people use my copy of Worms: Armageddon than buy the Steam version because of the "censorship"

I would rather people bought the GoG version of BLOOD; I would rather people pirated the DOOM IWADs because those creators no longer work for ID, which people pay for them.

An example: I'm cursious about DBX, but I don't want to buy it. I'm not into trying every new title that comes out. I like the idea of an OC Dragon Ball game, but it looks like it has some irredemable qualities.

Piracy ain't so bad in small doses. It's the creeps who do it "just because"
>>
>>291169639
Not to mention pirates who get the game early can get information about a game well before the paying customer. And if they so choose to actually tell people what the game is about they can end up saving the PAYING CUSTOMER money if they decide the game's flaws are not worth the money.

Supporting certain devs/publishers like ubisoft, activision, and EA are worse for the industry than pirating games.

How i see it, if youre a poorfag that cant get any games pirate the fuck out of them. Games are made for people to have fun with if you have fun go ahead. If you find shit you like and come into money pay for the ones you liked. If you have money just pirate things and then pay for them for the additional features like online they offer or just because you like them.

vidya unlike most things doesnt have a trial period or return policy. you cant teat out a game then decide if you want it. piracy lets you do that. especially now with half the devs lying and reviewers lying through their teeth for a quick buck at your expense.

Half truth, but it is also true PC games do buy a lot of games, and consoles do make a profit out of Blockbuster titles however we cannot ignore the decline of single player titles, high quality niche titles that are the most pirated titles of them all, and if it was not a big deal Steam and Ea would not had invested in Denuvo.

Not to mention that Mobas, and the mobile market demonstrated there are costumers that are a lot easier to please, if companies cannot make a buck from mainstream gaming they could easily switch to mobile / MOBA model. Valve for example abandoned single player games since the year 2010.

However data do show pirates do buy the most titles, but I do support your view, however people doing it all the time, who brag about it online can eat a dick.
>>
>>291159908

do it with your own money then cunt, and don't worry about others' financial situation.

if you think piracy affects the industry you're autistic. PC as a platform has the most piracy, and it gets the same number and quality of games as consoles.

Video games are not in the fucking tertiary sector of the economy you fucking retard. Video games are a product, not a service.

The basic characteristic of the tertiary sector is the production of services instead of end products.

You should really go to school before you just start typing words on the internet.

Just because they bought laws and twisted rules in their favor only means that you should uphold ethics and moral standards, while they are exploiting you. Good goy.

Wow, amazing use of insight and projection there buddy.

Nice to see the classical vedditor tradition of using ad hominem until the other person realizes he is talking to a retard and goes away still continues. Well done, I am leaving you alone, you won the argument the same way a baby won an argument against his parents by shitting his diaper, and crying really loud.

I do not support piracy, but it is convenient however you are not an internet super hero, you are just another maggot in the pile. I still have respect for the people and scene groups actively cracking this software, but as for you, you are just another jackass who learned to use google. Get over yourself.

I'll go ahead and leave you with a word of advice your parents won't give you until 10 years form now when it is already too late for you

Get a job.

I pirate most of my games. There has to be an extra layer of convenience or support to convince me to actually buy a game.

My reason is simple: I don't give a fuck about how much it hurts other people for me to pirate games.
Mostly doesn't hurt anyone since I wouldn't actually buy 95% of the games I pirate.

I'm not going to sit around and pretend there's any kind of deeper moral or ethical reason for it.

Although one semi-legitimate reason is that my computer is getting old and I don't feel like buying upgrades. I don't want to risk buying games that aren't going to run decently.
>>
I've only felt bad about pirating one game, and that was super mario galaxy 2. It was a lot of fun and I wish I had a permanent disc copy for my collection, but I couldn't justify paying for a game I already beat.

But I got it on the Wii U now, which works I guess.

Not "also", "only if". In case of no such happenings the owner gives you a refund only if he has a good day. He doesn't have to do that since you already watched the movie hence paid for the experience. If you didn't like it, don't come back. There are plenty of movies/cinemas to choose from. Shitty taste is not a valid reason to demand a refund.

it does not exist, whereas you can actually be caught and punished for irl theft. in addition it isn't the same because when you steal food you steal an item and that item now has to be replaced, when you steal software you are taking a copy and if the publisher wasn't watching, they would have no way of knowing it had been stolen.

Its a consumer's duty to pirate games to send devs a big message.

I choose not to buy their games because the R* shits can fuck themselves. inb4 butthurt fanboys defending their console faggotry.

However in cases where developer goes lengths to bring good game to PC and tries their best, I buy their games. Which is also a message of support.

Bioware games however should not be pirated or bought. Because they are complete and utter shit.
