Oddish in Silver.
Because of the darker Pallet in the 2nd gen games, it's appeared black with gold leaves.

In later gens, they made it slightly more greenish, which kinda ruined the look in my opinion.

My first shiny was a Whismur.

I didn't even realize it was shiny. I wasn't looking at the screen when it showed up, and the coloration isn't very different. I caught it anyway, just trying to fill up my Pokedex.

Surprised when I realized it was shiny. Evolved it into an Exploud. Its stats weren't amazing, but it wasn't shit. Just wish it wasn't a garbage type like Normal.

I was pretty psyched, since I had never encountered a legit shiny that wasn't the event Gyarados in GSC.

(And I got it in Alpha Sapphire, I've been playing since Pokemon RBY, and that was my first earlier this year.)

Mine was a Grimer on the Sapphire version, a fucking pile of puke first was a Shiny Torkoal, but battery ran out, when I came back to look for it I got a shiny grimer instead. I didn't know what shinies were at the time, until after I caught it.
Then I got a Shiny Wingull trying to get a Chimecho. I got another puke-colored pokemon before finding a fucking Chimecho.
Then I got an Onyx in my Leaf Green version on Victory road, nice it was Gold and Steelix looked awesome.
Then I got another fucking Grimer on my Fire Red version, again on the pokemon mansion. Here I began to suspect the timer had something to do, since I got two shinies at the same point coursing through the game, around the 24 hour clock mark

Never had a shiny pokemon before, despite playing most games as they came out, aside from ruby/saph. Decide I'm going to get a shiny of one of my favorites, Shinx in pearl.

I spent nearly 3 weeks in my spare time chaining for a god damn shinx with the radar thing, could never master the radar and went home defeated.

Give up, start new file. Name my character Shinx, cause fuck it. Recieve pokeballs, head out and my very first encounter was a shiny shinx. Named that mother fucker Shinx and leveled her up to level 100 into a Luxray named Shinx.

I shit you not, is still my favorite virtual possession and is rocking it out in my xy with a couple of shinys I got it that game.

Breeding shinies is fairly easy in Gen 6, you could probably knock one out in under 30 hours if you tried. It has the added benefit of having near perfect stats too.

Shinies haven't really been "rare" since gen 4, since that's when they added chaining.

I mean don't get me wrong, chaining for shinies is still an accomplishment. It's something that takes practice and dedication. But it's the difference between spending a few hours, and a few hundred hours.

The first time I caught a shiny, I kept getting into battles and running away, just so I could watch that sparkle. Like, my brain refused to accept that I actually caught a shiny; I needed clear visual confirmation.

Shiny Geodude was my first shiny back in Gold as well.
I needed it for rock smash if I recall, and didn't realize it was a shiny till much later cause when I caught it, I wasn't in a well lit room and didn't notice the sparkles.

Ironically, I didn't get another shiny pokemon naturally until playing Soul Silver, a shiny zubat.

I named her Olive cause of the green color and pinkish wings. Loved that little shit.
