>yfw you found your first shiny pokemon
Mine was a
> mfw shiny Golduck
Right out of a rustling bush, good times
This fucking coincidence
>Pupitar followed by a jigglypuff 2 weeks later
First was a Tentacool.
Second was a Regigigas.
Third was a Fletchling.
Fourth was a Snover.
except Tentacoolare now rape trains I use when battling.
Orange tentacruel, accidentally killed it because I was spamming A, didn't even see it was orange until the nanosecond before it died.
Pink butterfree, ran away before capture.
Both in the original Silver.
>be around 9
>pokemon ruby just came out
>find shiny aron
>have no idea why there are stars coming out of it
>use it, evolve it, it kicks ass
>later feel like replaying game
>delete save file
>never find another shiny again
Pidgey, I fainted it doe.
First was a ditto in g/s
I got by abusing a glitch that has to do with using mimic a bunch of times on the red gyarados when you trade it over to g/s
First real encounter was a tentacool in Sapphire
>it was a bright summers day
>I was outside playing Crystal together with my friends
>I was grinding Victory Road for exp
>could barely see anything, let alone colours
>mauling through your standard Golbats
>suddenly, an odd encounter with another Golbat
>the animation took longer to start than usual
>did I just see the screen flicker as well?
>asked my friends
>"might be a shiny"
>I catch it
>check it in my PC
The only shiny I ever found was an A-shaped Unown. it was ok, I guess.
>MFW that ballin' as fuck shiny Charizard
My first non-scripted Shiny was a gold Geodude in Mt. Moon at Silver. Little POS blew himself up before I could catch him.
The first Shiny I actually caught was a Slowpoke in X. I traded him for a Shiny Glalie, who was then traded for a Meloetta. Good times.
First was a Magikarp I autistically bred for in Platinum for about 2 weeks after hearing about the Masuda method.
HGSS and the free Red Gyarados were announced a week later Still love it though. It's useless but I love it. Gen 6 hands them out like sweets. Got 3 fucking Whismurs while EV training one thing
Radicate on Leaf Green.
Never really cared about shiny pokemon. But funny enough, I got a shiny Metagross in ORAS and it became the clean up powerhouse on my team whenever my Blaziken couldn't OHKO something.
probably thinking of another Pokémon
>Grow up on the series
>Spent hours as a kid just trying for any shiny
>Only one I've had was the red Gyarados
>Gen 2 goes by. Gen 3,4 and 5 goes by
>Finally get one in X
It's a Clauncher that I "farmed" in the ocean
>first shiny I found was whismur
>accidentally kill it
Do OR/AS have the original shiny encounter rate, or the increased rate from X/Y?
I was pretty upset when I found out they increased the rate, I wish they hadn't.
Still haven't found a shiny in X, though.
after 16 years of playing pokemon my first shiny is
>knows teleport, explosion, selfdestruct, roar, whirlwind or some other bullshit move
>Just started ORuby
>Looking for female Ralts with trace and a good nature
>End up finding a shiny female Ralts with trace as my first shiny right at the start of the game
Shame the nature sucks, but I still love her.
>playing Silver on a black and white gameboy
>FLASH FLASH FLASH
>wait what just happened
>I better catch it to be safe!
>Played every game at least twice
>Currently 300 hours into Alpha Saphire
>Completed the pokedex
>Never use repel
>Still have never encountered a
it's just not fair mang
You haven't heard of hoard training? You give the thing you're training the power item and Pokerus, turn on EXP share, find a hoard with the EV you want, get a LVL 100 to use surf and bam, 50 EVs in about 5 seconds. It's so much better than Super Training.
Shiny Zubat in Gold
I didn't catch it because I was young and didn't even realize what it was. Didn't even pay attention until after I had killed it when I thought "Wait, did it just sparkle like my Gyarados?"
>Having a group of people watch me play Alpha Sapphire
>Shiny Cascoon appears
>Was the first one to catch a shiny in the game out of everbody there
>Only 30 mins into the game
>tfw everyone got salty as fuck about it
>running into a shiny pokemon in the safari zone
>River next to Daycare
Fast forward to present time. Not a fucking Shiny since. Meanwhile in Heartgold, my friend Eric gets a shiny Shuckle, Ian a Shiny Golbat, and AJ a shiny Geodude. Without hunting.
>play Crystal on emulator
>encounter a shiny ratata
>not long after that I go to the whirl islands
>first thing I encounter is a shiny seel
Did they change the rate on some roms or what?
>found at least six different shinies at random when playing my Y
>mfw one was my favorite Pokemon and one hatched when I was trying to breed an Electrike with perfect IV's and it had them too
Shiny Mega Manectric looks fucking sweet and I love that mine actually has practical IV's, nature, and ability for me to use.
>can't remember which pokemon game it was
>start up the game
>choose my pokeman
>walk out into the grass
>VERY FIRST ENCOUNTER
>this happened on my way to the next town to buy my first pokeballs
>never seen another shiny in the wild ever again
>breed 500 zigzagoons because I wanted a shiny
>never gotten one ever
>doing breeding for a living dex
>shiny fucking panpour
I don't even like water types fuck
mine was all a bet with my girlfriend
the bet was that if i get a shiny regice she would suck my dick for the first time this was early on in the relationship so it was a big deal
the thing about shiny regice is this, this is his shiny you can barely spot the fucking difference
so you barely notice if you get him or not if your soft resetting without sound and not paying attention
I soft resetted 1277 times and I was doing this in the middle of a lecture and when it happend
I kicked my desk so hard when I shat myself with excitement
long story short i got my dick sucked for 30 minutes and shot the biggest load ever
>Breeding a Zorua for niece because she wants one
>find a shiny rattata on route 30
>don't have pokeballs yet, have to kill it
>playing soul silver
>find a shiny rattata on route 30, in the same fucking patch of grass
>don't have pokeballs yet, have to kill it
>looks sick as fuck
>my pokes are all weak as fuck
>only have a handful of pokeballs
>use curse (ghost)
>surely I'll catch it before it dies
Oddish in Silver.
Because of the darker Pallet in the 2nd gen games, it's appeared black with gold leaves.
In later gens, they made it slightly more greenish, which kinda ruined the look in my opinion.
Shiny Golbat while surfing on my way to the back of Meteor Falls to find a Bagon.
Found at least one wild shiny in every game I played since then except Black 2, but by then I had started breeding for them. Breeding for shinies is like crack with the new rare and destiny knot.
My first shiny was a Whismur.
I didn't even realize it was shiny. I wasn't looking at the screen when it showed up, and the coloration isn't very different. I caught it anyway, just trying to fill up my Pokedex.
Surprised when I realized it was shiny. Evolved it into an Exploud. Its stats weren't amazing, but it wasn't shit. Just wish it wasn't a garbage type like Normal.
HOLD THE FUCK UP
-328 F to K is 73.15 Kelvins.
That means it's 73 Kelvins away from absolute zero, even if the pokemon is in an isolated environment, the air would be frozen solid would be liquid, unable to breathe.
>tfw lost the emotion of finding a shiny because cheat fucks
Playing the NDS games on a flashcard is so depressing. Found a shiny, didn't even smile because I could just restart the DS and tick the 100% shiny encounter code.
>boot up soul silver for the first time
>start new game
>go run your errand after you get your starter
>power leveling my Cyndaquill in tall grass
>suddenly a golden shine washes over the screen
>Mother fucking shiny Sentret
>get him down to 1 health
>go for my bag
>game has given me no chance to get pokeballs at this point
>it is literally impossible to catch this golden wonder
>do the deed and put him down
>never see another shiny on that whole play through
To this day I am still mad.
>receive Shiny lvl1 Timid Gastly
>Has only 2 perfect IVs
Sp.atk and Speed
yeah cheaters ruined pokemon for me. no point in actually playing the game when everyone just hacks their perfect stat pokemon into the game and makes em shiny. can't even play online without facing cheaters.
Mine was latios. It ran after the ultra ball wiggled 3 times
First shiny I cheated for back in gold version with a gameshark.
First shiny I legitimately got was a shiny staravia in pearl.
Fastest shiny I got was a shiny level 3 zigzagoon about 15 minutes into my Alpha sapphire game.
it's been a long while, probably actually Gold and I'm retarded. where there shinies in yellow?
My first was the Odd Egg in Crystal, but I don't count it since I didn't know the value. My first REAL Shiny didn't show up until Y.
>Breeding my Delphox for little Fennekin babies to make Wonder Trade a better place
>With Jap Ditto, because it was the only Ditto I had and Bulbapedia didn't have Fennekin's Egg Group info up yet
>Something like my 18th egg
>Biking around Lumiose City
>Weird white color with red ear tufts
>"Nah, this isn't. This can't be a Shiny after this few tries. This is just that albino Pokémon glitch I heard of."
>Look it up
>It is, in fact, a real Shiny
It's still sitting on my Y card. There's no way I'm just throwing that on Wonder Trade. I mean someone would get a really nice surprise, but it might not be fully appreciated if it was received by some Jap just trying to get rid of hundreds of leftover shitmons from trying to breed perfect IVs.
>mfw Flygon is my favorite pokemon
You have the opportunity to marry one pokemon princess, which do you pick?
Never found one before and even if I did it wouldn't be satisfying unless it was pre-Gen IV because they made it easier to encounter one in the newer games.
My little sister found a pink Poochyena and she doesn't even play video games.
>never let other people touch my videogames
>especially my pokemon games
>sister wants to play my SoulSilver, first time she shows interest in the series
>"ok, but just grind, level up in this specific area, dont go to options, dont uee items, dont save if I'm not here, dont do anything except killing wild mons"
>10 seconds later I turn around
>"hey anon why is this rattata golden?"
>Are you fucking serious????
There must be a lesson to learn here about trust but I dont care.
Flygon is GOTY, fucking flying ground
I found 8 for sure, but I only caught 2 of them.
Pokemon Fire Red / Leaf Green
Failed to catch, on my way to get Oak's Parcel
Sleeping Powder missed, Teleported
Failed to catch, it used Roar
Failed to catch, used Self-Destruct
Ran away, fuck the Safari Zone
Pokemon Heart Gold / Soul Silver
Killed itself with Curse
Caught this one in Sprout Tower on a New Game
Caught it, and battery died right after saving
Mine was a Wailmer.
I was pretty psyched, since I had never encountered a legit shiny that wasn't the event Gyarados in GSC.
(And I got it in Alpha Sapphire, I've been playing since Pokemon RBY, and that was my first earlier this year.)
>hudreds of hours across every pokemon game up until Platinum
>never found a shiny
>know people who've gotten one after 50 hours in Ruby
>not EV training at the fucking beginning using Super Training to completely wreck gym leaders using underleveled pokemon
I know I can just retrain them, but I prefer to get EV training out of the way as soon as I catch them, even if it's before I get pokerus&power items.
I actually did encountered one...
...near the beginning of the game. I threw the only great ball I had. Fucker got out.
>not immediately using a master ball for a shiny that can teleport/explode/SD etc
I mean, what else will you use it for? Takes all the fun out of catching Legends.
PoliwhirlI was Playing it on an Emulator on my old ass windows 98 PC.As soon as I caught it, I Tried to save the gameand got blue screen of death.
>Graveler's face when
heard you talking shit like I wouldn't find out
>playing Silver, Gold, or Cyrstal (I don't remember)
It looks like fucking vomit, it's the worst pokemon ever and it is pretty much unusable
I have found a shiny before obtaining pokeballs in: Emerald, FR AND LG, Platinum, SS, and in two different playthroughs of white.
Are those odds calculable? It has pissed me off for years.
>was mad as fuck about something (cant remember)
>didnt have anyone on my party to fly so I just walked to the nearest town
>found a shiny deerling from the tall grass when I accidentally slipped off from the top
>I was mad and happy at the same time. First shiny but a shit one
>still kept it and now its a Sawsbuck
I didn't even fucking try. Needless to say, I lost my fucking shit.
Mine was a Grimer on the Sapphire version, a fucking pile of puke
first was a Shiny Torkoal, but battery ran out, when I came back to look for it I got a shiny grimer instead. I didn't know what shinies were at the time, until after I caught it.
Then I got a Shiny Wingull trying to get a Chimecho. I got another puke-colored pokemon before finding a fucking Chimecho.
Then I got an Onyx in my Leaf Green version on Victory road, nice it was Gold and Steelix looked awesome.
Then I got a
nother fucking Grimeron my Fire Red version, again on the pokemon mansion. Here I began to suspect the timer had something to do, since I got two shinies at the same point coursing through the game, around the 24 hour clock mark
The first shiny I ever found was one of those Electrodes you and Lance need to take out in Gold/Silver.
To make a long story short, I shit my pants in excitement, and then the fucker exploded on me.
my first was an onyx on victory road when playing soulsilver, second was a hoothoot first encounter after clearing the elite four
Best one was getting a shiny lillipup on route 1 and playing through the game with it
I caught my first shiny just a few days ago. It's a gothorita named Siouxsie. Caught it in a premier ball.
Shiny Dedenne. Then a shiny Tentacool. And then a shiny Muk.
I'm a master of finding shinies of unimpressive and boring pokemon. Maybe next time I'll get a shiny Zigzagoon or a fucking Pidgey.
>notice bunch of wild ponyta encounters right outside mt. silver in HG/SS
>pretend to make a stable for ponyta racehorses in one of my PC boxes
>catch a bunch of them
>name them after racehorses and give them racehorse-like names
>having lots of fun
>fucking blue one appears out of nowhere
>go to /vp/ draw thread and request ethan chasing after shiny ponyta outside mt silver
that was my first shiny. i hatched a shiny zorua in four eggs a little after when i was trying to breed them to giveaway
when my riolu popped out of that egg that one guy gives you in D/P. i thought my pokemon was was a fucking freak of nature
Siouxsie Sioux is a solo artist now, so I feel like the reference would be lost on most pokefags.
Also, I only nickname shinies and competitive mons. If I ever get male gothorita/gothitelle, maybe I'll name it Robert.
Started pokemon platinum next to a friend.
He saw a shiny pidove before he could get pokeballs. then a shiny bidoof 5 minutes after getting pokeballs. what the fuck. I never found a shiny in that game, only got a shiny eevee from a friend which I turned into an Espeon..
My first shiny was a shiny caterpie in Soul Silver
>mfw one day I got 2 shiny miltanks and a shiny spearrow in the span of 2 hours while grinding in SoulSilver
I fucking hate miltank's shiny. I hate blue in general but I felt lucky anyways
>Shinies that are the same color as the normal palette, just half a shade lighter or darker.
Why is this allowed?
Never had a shiny pokemon before, despite playing most games as they came out, aside from ruby/saph. Decide I'm going to get a shiny of one of my favorites, Shinx in pearl.
I spent nearly 3 weeks in my spare time chaining for a god damn shinx with the radar thing, could never master the radar and went home defeated.
Give up, start new file. Name my character Shinx, cause fuck it. Recieve pokeballs, head out and my very first encounter was a shiny shinx. Named that mother fucker Shinx and leveled her up to level 100 into a Luxray named Shinx.
I shit you not, is still my favorite virtual possession and is rocking it out in my xy with a couple of shinys I got it that game.
Mine was Jynx in Heartgold and I had played all the previous gens of pokemon before that game.
I mean I guess it was sort of cool since Jynx is a rare pokemon. But I mean it's fucking Jynx. Who in the history of the world has ever used a Jynx on their team. One of the ugliest pokemon without a doubt.
>catch a shiny pidgey in FireRed
>keep it with me for years
>transfer it to game after game until BW2
>its now forever stuck there
>not fighting your ass off for your favorite mons
My nigga was my first.
I caught like a month ago. Wierded me out because I've been playing pokemon since Silver and I've never found one in the wild nor ever felt like shiny hunting.
Magnemite in gold version, Almost didn't catch it because it pretty much looks the same.
Second was a Kakuna in gold, Hariyama in Sapphire, Rattata (first encounter in fire red), and a Tentacool in Y version.
Sorry man I didn't mean to diss your favorite pokemon. I genuinely believed no one who had her as a favorite would see my post.
If it's any consolation my favorite pokemon is farfetch'd so feel free to diss him.
you're damn right he is.
Shiny Lillipup, not the nicest colors, but Stoutland sorta reminds me of one of my old teachers from High School.
I just wish he was more viable :c
It was on White, "Meteor Cave" I think it was called. Tried looking for one of them with the right nature, think it was for breeding an Axew
>played all the games
>never found a single one
ya fuk u
Since it's tied to the trainer shiny value some people might have better luck. I've found about 23 combined in X/OR, over around 800 hours of playtime, counting time spent breeding. While my cousin has played for around 400 and hasn't seen a single one.
A moment of silence for all those delicious farfetch'd felled in battle and then eaten.
He's actually really fun with the new crit mechanics making it so you can have moves on him that always crit without any set-up. Not really viable, but fun. Have you tried leafblade on him?
Looking back though it's pretty fucking ugly
I tried that, he still has really low attack even with 100% crits, and needs to be baton passed a speed boost or two, not to mention he dies to anything. But it's incredibly satisfying when you manage to faint anything with it.
Didn't know it was a shiny until my friend who I traded it to told me it was one.
mfw shiny Medicham caught in the cave before the elite 4
mfw shiny Gyarados from SoulSilver
mfw shiny Raikou/Entei/Suicune from GameStop events
mfw shiny Dialga/Palkia/Giratina from GameStop events
mfw shiny Mawile, Goodra, and Tyrantum from breeding, all with 5 maxed IVs
I don't even care if I'm an autist, I love shinies.
Farfetch'd was rare in gen 1 because it was hunted to near-extinction.
Farfetch'd ceases to be rare in later games, because they added breeding. Players took a near-extinct species and bred it back to its former glory.
>Catching Pokemon in victory road to help finish pokedex
>Catch all I need and decide to leave
>Suddenly Rhyhorn appears
>See its Shiny
>Realize I used up my last heavy ball on a previously caught Rhyhorn
>Its constantly using Take down and I think Its gonna kill itself
>Realize it has rock head when it takes no recoil
>Weaken it to the red and catch the fucker with an ultra ball
Catching it felt good, but I still wish I caught it in a Heavy ball
Also Caught a Shiny Magikarp in the Dragon's Den in HG and a Shiny Zubat in a horde battle in Y
Shinies haven't really been "rare" since gen 4, since that's when they added chaining.
I mean don't get me wrong, chaining for shinies is still an accomplishment. It's something that takes practice and dedication. But it's the difference between spending a few hours, and a few hundred hours.
Eevee, in Pokemon Y.
Its like I found several shinies at once.
>breeding for bagons
>one of them is shiny
>breeding for larvitars a few hours later
>one of them is shiny
They've got pretty mediocre IVs but hey
>mfw found a shiny Unown when trying to complete the Unown dex in Gold
I never got lucky with shinies until X/Y. My first was a Noctowl. First impressions were "Aww yeah, we anime now." Then I realized I wouldn't use Noctowl over my Hawlucha so it got boxed.
Did you somehow miss the highly visible sparkling effect every time you send it into battle?
The first time I caught a shiny, I kept getting into battles and running away, just so I could watch that sparkle. Like, my brain refused to accept that I actually caught a shiny; I needed clear visual confirmation.
Shiny Geodude was my first shiny back in Gold as well.
I needed it for rock smash if I recall, and didn't realize it was a shiny till much later cause when I caught it, I wasn't in a well lit room and didn't notice the sparkles.
Ironically, I didn't get another shiny pokemon naturally until playing Soul Silver, a shiny zubat.
I named her Olive cause of the green color and pinkish wings. Loved that little shit.
>mfw Golden Krabby
>tfw shiny Kingler loses it's Gold and becomes a pale, greyish-blue
>being out of Pokeballs
Do you even Pokemon, son?
>run into shiny in Emerald
>before first rival battle
Fuck GF, they should have done it so there can't be shinies until you can actually catch them. At least it was just a Wurmple.
Just look at this fabulous motherfucker.
I ran into a shiny zubat back in sapphire while looking for a shiny lunatone
because that's how you could supposedly get deoxys or jirachi, It was like my second shiny, my first being a tentacruel in gold which I couldn't catch because all I had was a master ball which I hadn't cloned yet.
>not constantly carrying 99 regular pokeballs, along with 20 of every other ball
GOTTA CATCH 'EM ALL, MOTHERFUCKER.
The only legit shiny I ever found, a Voltorb in 3rd gen, and here I am with no pokeballs. I was sad about that for days.
Patrat's not so bad. One time a level 30-something wild Watchog totally fucked up my level 70-something Escavalier because it opened with Confuse Ray and then just sat there Super Fanging Escavalier while it hurt itself in confusion three times in a row.
>even considering getting a remake over the new entry
Unless of course you've never played Gen 3.
My first and only proper shiny was a bright yellow Swadloon with an attack lowering, special defense raising nature.
Completely useless in battle, but at least I finally got one after playing every game since Blue. I named it Sunny.
It's funny because I only ran into one shiny in Gen II and III each, then when I played X I could literally fill up half a box with my shinies,
and some of those I just ran into randomly and not in the friend safari
That reminds me, I spent about 20 hours in the Battle Chateau in X just getting money, and had like 2,000,000 pokebucks before the second gym. Made the rest of the game easy but I caught them all.
All of my favorite pokemon have TERRIBLE shinies. Who the fuck thought lime green was a good idea? And don't even get me started on pic related.
>a fucking golbat
>not evolving it into crobat
>not recognizing the best pokemon in the game
You ungrateful shit
>near the end of the game
>still wearing the default outfit
Litwick was my first shiny
Orange Chandelure is pretty cool
Too bad the nature was Brave
>mfw most of my favorites have god tier shinies
Aggron is the only iffy one, and Crobat's wings.
>feel when running out of money buying cute clothes and hairstyles rather than battle items
>20 hours in the battle chateau before even doing the second gym
Man, that's crazy. Battle Chateau is a pretty good source of money, but you don't really need a lot of money until the postgame.
Crobat is terrible, though. It ruined the whole concept of the line.
Then again, it is a Johtomon, so being a hideous shitmon is expected.
Favorite Shiny color
Buying every single Clothing and Accessory option available and changing my hair every day didn't come cheap. Also my OCD forces me to keep 99 Ultra Balls with me at all times.
>mfw realizing the reason there are so many different climates in Kalos (sunny beach, grassy green meadows, snowy mountains, etc) was because they could have fashion for all four seasons
I farmed for over an hour to get a regular sviper, but I was new to the game and had to take one zangoose at a time hoping they would miss attacks enough that the sviper would be left alive. No multi hit attacks, no over lvl'd pussy bullshit.
>mfw I never found a shiny pokemon in my 3 decades of pokemans
Holy shit, is /v/ actually talking about video games without anyone telling OP to go to one of the other video game boards so /v/ can be all about stupid shit that barely relates to games?
That is amazing. Anyway on topic Shiny Zubat on Firered. On an emulator during a nuzlocke run. I don't really count it but it was literally the only shiny I have gotten that wasn't pretty much guaranteed like the egg on Crystal.
I found a shiny sandshrew in sapphire years ago. Did not know why it had stars, but believe it to be something useful so captured it. Made a bet and lost a battle so I ended up trading it for a sedot. Seemed fair since I did a grass team
I wasn't even consciously trying to make money, I was just having
funand training different teams. I always take a long time to finish games when given even a small degree of freedom, I hate rushing.
>speedy poison/flying, meaning it's immune to ground, with access to Infiltrator, Taunt, Super Fang, Toxic
>basically the perfect wallbreaker
>still has acceptable offensive power for the main story
What exactly did it "ruin"?
>it's not even twenty years old
mfw I've never encountered a shiny pokemon while I've been playing from silver/gold
>Playing since Red
>Never once seen a shiny
I haven't experienced Pokerus either. Also I developed an attachment to a Shuppet with sassy nature and named her a male name by mistake
>Retard younger me stunted her growth because I didn't like Bayonette
>She's max level and can barely take on lvl. 60s without Curse
I messed every possible thing I could up.
Did any of you guys have a favorite Pokemon you took around despite it being terrible?
Only shiny I've ever found was a fucking Bibarel in Platinum.
>first was pic related
Well so much for competitive.
It's a rare (about 1 in 8000) color variation. Shiny pokemon are a different color, and sparkle when you summon them into battle... and that's it. They're not more powerful, they don't have any special abilities or anything, it's just a cosmetic difference. They're valued ONLY for their rarity, in most cases.
2 shiny weedles in a row in gold
>mfw nobody ever believes me
