So exactly why did he decide to join the bad guys? Doesn't really fit a guy who's out trying to bring justice.

And why didn't he try to actually help Raiden once he realized he was kicking Desperado's ass left and right?
>>
Because he was a Ronin and Armstrong beat him, meaning he found a new master.
>>
Sam's a vigilante, and Armstrong's goal was a world run by vigilantes.

It fits.

Because Raiden needed a rival and he was cool.
Why does Bladewolf come back after being sliced into a million pieces?
Kojima.
>>
Because he was gay for armstrong after giving him a handjob and then got penetrated by him.
>>
Basically Sam adhered to the life of a vigilante to enact justice in the world with the belief that he did good for the world that way.

When Armstrong kicked his ass and nearly killed him, Sam accepted that the best way to use his strength would be to realize Armstrong's vision for the world.

Then Raiden shows up with the same beliefs he used to have, and he starts having doubts about Armstrong's plan again. Hence the setup with the sword, and going to fight Raiden in an honorable duel instead of simply riding ahead and killing everyone that could have helped Raiden get there in time.

He got wrecked by Armstrong and had his reason for fighting beaten out of him. He was an example of what could have happened to Raiden. The irony is, of course, that Raiden is actually able to continue fighting because of the lessons imparted to him by Same, as well as his sword. If Bladewolf, acting on behalf of Sam, hadn't returned to Raiden with his sword, Raiden would have been screwed.

As for why he didn't switch sides, a lot of his behavior was all about how how he had begun to doubt this world that Armstrong had forced him to believe was inevitable. He was a broken man, however, and so he made the decision to decide once and for all whether it was Armstrong or Raiden's vision that was truth. He smiles when defeated by Raiden because it was a reaffirmation of the very beliefs that drove him to try and fight Armstrong in the first place.
>>
>>288833745
More like Raiden didn't get his sword arm destroyed and Armstrong couldn't really damage his new cutting-edge tech cyborg body either - apart from his visor.
Pretty sure he could have outlasted and killed Armstrong with his original sword had he concentrated on dodging him.

Would love to see how Grey Fox would have handled the situations in the game (with him having adequate tech, of course).
>>
The Only Thing I Know For Real is the best song in the game

>Pretty sure he could have outlasted and killed Armstrong with his original sword

Nope.

Sam's sword is actually better.
>>
>>288834765
The entire OST is GOAT.
>>
>>288833210
Didn't you play the DLC you moran? Didn't you listen to the lyrics in his song? Or are you just that thick?
>>
Because Platinum can't into writing.
>>
>>288833210
armstrong wasn't bad. raiden was bad because he delivered the world back into the hands of chaos.

don't forget raiden killed solidus, who was fighting the patriots.

you always play as villains in mgs games. snake eater was the sole exception.
>>
>>288834765
>not It Has to Be This Way
>>
>>288834706
Raiden may have had the advantage of a cybernetic body, but Sam's sword is objectively better.
>>
>>288834706
>Pretty sure he could have outlasted and killed Armstrong with his original sword had he concentrated on dodging him.

So, that's why Armstrong could catch Raiden's sword in his hand and snap it like a twig.

Quality of the Katana directly correlates to Quality of the HF blade. Sam's was made from a "folded over 1000 times by master Japanese swordsmiths" level katana, so his sword was vastly better than Raiden's and had far more cutting power.

The only reason it was equitable in Sam's hands compared to Raiden's sword in Raiden's hands was that Sam's power suit was far weaker/slower than Raiden's cyborg body. That's why Sam had great difficulty harming Armstrong (too slow without gun-sheath) and Raiden could kill him (less skilled but faster with Cyborg body)
>>
>>288833358
Kojima has nothing to do with revengeance, only his studio did the writing not him himself, he was too busy with mgs5 and gz
>>
>>288833210
Sam is Brazilian, he doesn't know any better.
>>
>>288834706
Not true at all. Armstrong fucked up Raiden's sword. Sam's sword was a high quality sword to begin with, then it got treated with HF technology. In codec they explain that it being so decked out is why it's able to damage Armstrong at all, since it can essentially outpace the nanomachines moving throughout his blood. How do you think he managed to cut off Armstrong's arm in the DLC?

Sam would have beaten Armstrong if he'd known about the fact he had a nanomachine heart. Instead he got impaled by his sharpened arm stump.

>>288833358
Wolf's just a robot, they uploaded his mind into another body.

>Sam heroic spirit broken, he goes all jaded and works for Desperado.
>Sam beats the shit out of Raiden
>Raiden comes back with a revengeance.
>Sam tries to break Raiden again with the nanomachine thing.
>Raiden goes 200% mad. Doesn't break.
>Sam now on top of feeling guilty, now he kinda feels like a pussy.
>>
>>288835067
>armstrong wasn't bad. raiden was bad because he delivered the world back into the hands of chaos.

You are being incredibly optimistic about Armstrong's darwinist fantasy for America.

Also, by Armstrong's vision Raiden was right the moment he won; Armstrong espoused a might-makes-right worldview, and when Raiden killed him it rendered Raiden's view valid in his eyes.
>>
>>288835308
Also because Sam had minimal cyborg enhancements other than his robot arm and his suit. Sam had more raw talent, but Raiden had better physical capabilities.
>>
>>288833210
Because Armstong and Sam follow a might makes right mentality.

Both of them assume that Raiden is just a retard with a lot of expensive cybernetics behind him until he fucking murders them and they see Raiden's skill for themselves.

Sam was raised within a dojo, so he was classically trained whereas Raiden mostly picked up his technique from Solidus as a child, movies and experimentation. This is why Raiden doesn't really strongly adhere to one style and why he switches between weapons so easily; his cyborg body allows him to cope with different weapons and he just adheres them to his style.
>>
>>288835432
as opposed to what? a communist america?

capitalism is the lifeblood of modern society. armstrong wasn't optimistic. he was realistic.

yeah, raiden did win. and if you haven't noticed, raiden has a habit of doing the bidding of others without questioning why or how he's doing it. isn't that the purpose of his entire character arc?

this is the second time he's delivered the world into a state of anarchy.

a protector isn't a protector unless he can protect. without actual strength, you can talk all you like about saving the innocent, the fact is you cannot. armstrong lost to raiden. the villain won.
>>
>>288835308
>Sam would have beaten Armstrong if he'd known about the fact he had a nanomachine heart. Instead he got impaled by his sharpened arm stump.

No, he wouldn't have.

Sam got Armstrong's arm because it was an extremity (and as such the last thing to harden), and with the gun-sheath he was able to chop it before it hardened.

His human/suit body was simply too slow to hope to wound the area around Armstrong's heart, which is the first thing to harden, especially further in.

Even raiden has to give it a shitload of cuts with a far faster and stronger cyborg body before he can zandatsu. There's no way Sam could have done that in physical speed and strength, even if he had the skill to.

Armstrong's vision basically entailed a society without any form of protections where people like him could go over and murder you if they want, and because they're strong you can't say shit. Is this a system you want to live in?

MGR is also the first time Raiden makes a decision largely of his own free will rather than in the service of others; he chooses to kill Armstrong and leave his comfortable job to pursue his own definition of justice.

Also funny about how you rip on Raiden for not "protecting the innocent" when in Armstrong's America anyone who is weak is "guilty" and Armstrong is the same guy that caused so many innocents to die in the first place.
>>
Armstrong did nothing wrong
>>
>>288835936
armstrong doesn't think it would be about senseless murder, though.

the strongest establishes order, and then derives profits from being the one in control.

that's a good system.

I'm not ripping on raiden for protecting the innocent or not.

if you don't notice, the entire game is about people making fun of him because he is lying to himself about helping others. he only ever helps himself. he never does anything good, but he wants to pat himself on the back anyway.
>>
>>288836247

>armstrong doesn't think it would be about senseless murder, though.

You're joking, right? This is an actual part of Armstrong's rant.

> The weak will be purged -- and the strongest will thrive -- free to live as they see fit!

How do you take "The weak will be purged" any other way?

>

if you don't notice, the entire game is about people making fun of him because he is lying to himself about helping others. he only ever helps himself. he never does anything good, but he wants to pat himself on the back anyway.

The others are making fun of him for having different perspectives.

Sam and Armstrong ultimately agree with him.

The Winds are psychopaths who will agree with anything that lets them get their murder boner off.

And I think George and the other orphans are pretty fucking pleased they'll get to live relatively normal lives rather than being made into child soldiers through hellish VR training.
>>
>>288836495
the weak SHOULD be purged.

welfare should be cut. people born with 80 iq shouldn't get into college.

this is necessary for establishing order. it's not senseless murder.

if a person with 80 iq and a person with 120 iq are considered "equal" you live in communism. look at russia to see how that turned out.

Says the probable neckbeard virgin sucking off mommy and daddy's proverbial teat.

The fact that /v/ is so supportive of Armstrong when 99% of it would not survive Armstrong's vision for America is absurd. It's like watching the same sort of fat neckbeards pretend they'd be alphas in the zombie apocalypse instead one of the first casualties.

>we're not here to kill civilians, jack.
>extremists, gangsters, madmen

Armstrong was in favor of enforcing EXISTING law. the current society has been more concerned with enforcing the "rights" of murderers, terrorists, and religious extremists who behead people in the street.

armstrong wants order.

not sure why you neckbeards thing muslims should be allowed to run around blwoing things up.

>MGR is also the first time Raiden makes a decision largely of his own free will rather than in the service of others; he chooses to kill Armstrong and leave his comfortable job to pursue his own definition of justice.
Everybody tells him to kill Armstrong on the codec, and even then he does it because he's half insane and half "it isn't my sword".

Raiden was making his own decisions in Maverick, pushing for regulations on PMSCs and whatnot, which technically was happening before the events of MGR. But then he just went complete retard after meeting Monsoon.
>"I hurt people's feelings by killing them"
>cognitive dissonance
>"I'm stabbed in the body that I haven't even fucking had for years"

>RAEGGGGGGG
What the fuck. I hope it was some sort of budget cut or whatever, but that's probably giving Platinum too much credit.
>>
>>288833210
Because he lost to Armstrong and his conviction was weakened.
That's why he like Raiden because even if Sam broke him he kept fighting.

Also he helps Raiden unlocking his true strenght in a very japanese/anime kind of way by being his opponent and pushing him.
>>
>>288839592
It's Raiden finally snapping and conforming to what other people told him to be, creating the persona of Jack the rippah; a sort of bipolar disorder cause by stress and guilt.
