My favorite is Princess Sacrifice followed by RPGmaker titles like Arm's Devicer, Parallel Fantasy IF, Virgin Island and Sacred Eyes 2.0.
Scale Garden games are also allright, but the pacing is fucking terrible.
Don't like stripe based ones that much because they often don't put much effort or context into the scenes, nukige bore me because of no interactivity.

MGQ is an obvious one if you haven't played it.

And most obscure/underrated IMO would be FairyFighting by Eluku. 2D fighter with about 18 opponents. I've probably spent just as much time in it as I have in MGQ. Excellent scenes, but the AI and fighting mechanics make for a good challenge when you actually want to vidya.

I gave up on that game. All I wanted was for bugs to get fixed and for the story to continue past the arena.

I used to play it all the time back when rogue did the translating, and I was able to play all the way to the arena. These days I just get stuck somewhere unable to continue the story because of some random invisible wall or nanako getting stuck facing one single direction, no matter where I go.

It's not about originality, it's about aligning the game with the porn. Far too often losing is rewarded while doing well is basically punished for having little to no porn. Porn should be the reward for doing well and the game should be fun to play.

Nah, most people (AKA you) just looked at Sengoku and sperged out over the strategy elements. 02, 3, and 4 are all translated and way different. They're more like dungeon crawler RPGs mixed with text games, but thanks to 7 they go unnoticed and people think Sengoku is the be-all end-all of Rance when it's just another chapter in the saga. A good chapter, sure, but it's not everything.

For example, 4 lets you assault Gal Monsters. 5D is supposed to have some kind of pokemon capturing element. Kichikuou gives you world domination and a dedicated harem screen.

The profit they make is not enough to fund anything better than extremely basic shit
ie almost all of them are very, very far off from having the budget to even hire a programmer, much less put together a team for a decent 3d game.

H-games can easily secure enough funding to hire artists and writers, but not enough for programmers and decent project leads.

Though this isn't a hard rule of course: those furry breeding guys are solidly in viable territory. Unfortunately they seem to be unable or unwilling to hire capable people, but that's the price to pay when you're pitching a project that kills resumes.
