>Firstly, I noticed your character moves slowly. Like to the point of being shocked. Unless I missed a run button somewhere during the tutorial, I couldn’t believe how slowly you moved. It immediately brought to mind Steel Diver: Sub Wars. Like Nintendo was gimping the FPS to make it more “thoughtful” or try to make it less about reflexes to reduce the load and lag on their consoles. We already got corrupted with Zelda mutating into a puzzle experience, this is just what we need is a puzzle FPS. Why couldn’t this be more like Metroid Prime or Metroid Prime Hunters?

>Then I learned in the tutorial that in order to aim your gun, you have to tilt the control pad. In other words, to squirt ink on the ground, you tilt the pad down and to squirt ink high and far away, like over walls, you tilt the pad up. Naturally, depending on your tastes, you may enjoy this control scheme or think it adds that Nintendo feel to an FPS experience. Personally I hated it. Why can’t I just use a control stick or something, where I have 20+ years of muscle memory trained? It just reminded me of those god awful 3DS experiences where you have to move your body around and face the 3DS in different directions.

There's a fucking SQUID button that does the same thing and is the main mechanic of the damn game.
Guess casuals get too confused when given a game that isn't a carbon copy of COD though.
>>
>>286256667
People who played at E3 last year said they could change it to something more traditional.

Not sure why the running speed is so important, you're not supposed to run across the map and frag the other team, you're supposed to paint walls and once you've established your territory you can use the warp thing to go to any area of your color.

I get the feeling that he wanted it to be CoD, which it clearly isn't.

Just from reading the first paragraph I could tell it was Maelstrom. He always comes back to the same points and fails to understand what people like about the 3D Zeldas, even if they would be better with harder combat.
>>

You only go slower if you're in the enemy team's paint, you don't walk faster if you're on your own ink compared to an unpainted surface

It'll also make it harder for a losing team to turn the tide.

But that's a lie.
You can use the right analog stick.
>>
>>286256521
But both of those points are wrong.

You move slow since you are encouraged to spread ink and then swim in it to traverse the map quickly.

And it's been confirmed time and time again at e3 that you have the option to use gyro or stick camera controls.

>Afaik you can only squid on your ink, which is going to make the beginning of the game slow as an american.

You can squid change everywhere, it's just the speed boost that is only on your ink. And the comment about early game is why ink jumping is a valuable skill. that said painting a line in front of you is fast, and you can use your team mate ink so the progression is still fast from the start.
>>
>>286258090

To be fair these mechanics have been around since forever because they're fun and gratifying. I can't see the novelty of a multiplayer game centered around painting the ground very long. Nintendo better be prepared with some deatchmatch options.

>Why can’t I just use a control stick or something, where I have 20+ years of muscle memory trained?

This is such a dumb way of thinking. Like, he's admitting not wanting to play anything that he doesn't know how to play already. you call that shit being a gamer? He's a frightened casual who learned a single trick to fit in and now use his energy to defend it instead of learning hos to play games.
>>
>>286256521
that second paragraph
someone forgot to check the controller options
>>
>>286258746
What's more funny is that the stick can be used to aim just fine. He must not have played it himself at all.
>>
>>286258746
and even then, I can't imagine a game like this will only have 1 control scheme to it, surely the pro pad will be available for use in some fashion.
>>
Now the real big retarded issue is gonna be that it
>won't have voice chat for randoms
>probably won't have a feature to have you and your friends stick together in the same matches

Which is absolutely retarded and means you need eight goddamn people to set up a match or you're doing randoms by yourself
>>
>>286256521
>slow running speed
you are not supposed to run, you are supposed to be a squid in the ink, which is why the walking speed is slow, else ther would be no point to be a squid

fucking retard
>>
>>286258746
Why is this a bad thing?

It's like playing fighting games you're entire life and then bumping into one that requires you to waggle your controller to punch. Even if you call this a casual attitude, the idea of rotating and moving the controller pad sounds awful and tiring.

You don't have to go to these lengths to defend a Nintendo game. I'm sure it'll be fun, but this doesn't mean it's a good choice.
>>
>every game must be fast paced action to be fun

This mentality is what is killing gaming
>>

Here's your reply.
>>
I played it at EGX last year. The walking speed wasn't as slow as CoD, so that's fine. One of the main focuses of the game anyway is travelling quickly in squid mode, which is kind of glitchy but feels great.
The aiming is awkward, you use the stick for left/right and tilt for up/down and more precise left/right aiming. I wouldn't be surprised if there's an option for stick aim, but at the same time it seems they want to "make use" of Wuu features as much as possible.
Don't worry about the pace, it's definitely fast and punishing. Kind of reminded me of EXVS for some reason.
>>
>>286257951
Killing your opponent prevents them from painting over your shit and makes a big explosion in your color where they died.

Once again a reviewer goes into a game with a long list of expectations, and writes a poor review because those expectations are not met to the letter.

You can move not only quickly, but stealthily through your color of ink, and if there isn't already a traditional right control stick camera option in some menu that the public didn't have access to, there likely will be after Nintendo hears that feedback.

Ignoring the wordpress thing. Lets talk latest update

>This weapon is called the 'Splaroller'. Since its main feature is painting while moving forward, it's easy to think of it as a close-range-only weapon, but by flicking it, you can hit enemies at a mid distance. Learning to balance painting and flicking is crucial for this weapon.

>We have obtained footage of the Splaroller in action. Watching this should give you a good impression of what it's like to move around while using this weapon.

I don't understand the movement speed complaint

I thought the idea of the game was territory control, and with expanded territotry comes a greater range of movement (more areas to dive in)

Having faster passive movement speed diminishes the impact of that concept

When starting the demo theres a 2 minute warmup time where your in your own instance of the map with control popups and balloons to shoot. If it's like EGX there was also a staff member talking you through it.
If you still couldn't understand one stick to move/strafe, one to turn and motion to aim then its denial of a brilliant control scheme. blasting and moving is simple with it.

ny gamer who seriously argues for controller standards or who's enjoyment of a game largely hinges on if small differences in controller design meet their expectations, does not put gameplay first. I can understand a gamer frustrated at not having certain options like inverting the Y-axis, and I can understand the stress that can come from overcoming physical handicaps. But for the most part, I can't help but think that complaints about controls come from gamers who no longer want to learn (an important part of most gameplay experiences). Learning and mastering controls is part of what makes gameplay challenges difficult.

These gamers might reason, 'why learn a new control scheme for X game when I've already mastered the controls for game Y of the same genre.' The simple answer is because Y is a different game than X. We shouldn't ignore the fact that controller design (including controller feel) is an legitimate quality of a gameplay experience. Some developers want players to have to input a certain way to play their games, while others allow players to customize everything. The choice is ultimately up to the developers. A willingness to learn and embrace new gameplay should also come with a willingness to learn new control schemes.

The real concern isn't anything in that review. The big question everyone should be asking is what the online is like.

If they fuck up online, only letting you play only randoms or only friends, no team building or no community, then this game will have lost most potential. I'll play it for a week or 2 without those things like Kid Icarus Uprising or sub wars, but if you can't get together with friends and develop a meta, then this kinda game just loses a lot of its promise.
