Yeah, if you let Akatsuki do what he wants then he'll smash your face in, it's just really easy to not let him do that. His reflector could be better though. I don't think it's as good as it was in Jewpuncher.

aside from basic fighting game knowledge, there's a mechanic called GRD. Where you're constantly in a tug of war with the opponent for control, the GRD rewards players for playing well and making the correct choices.

Also the top 3 (Gordeau, Merkava, Waldstein) are really good but not unbeatable.

Is this game really good, gameplay-wise?

Because all characters just look so plain and bland except the one in OP. Not sure it's worthy getting this if the gameplay is not that good.

I'm buying this since I need more melty in my life. How similar?

The gameplay is actually really solid. Some of the characters may look a bit dull but each one really has their own play-style. If you're into anime fighters i'd give it a chance.

Yeah most of the characters do seem like generic anime character but if you can get over it the game is fun.

it has most of the mechanics from melty so i would say they are pretty similar, Eltnum(Sion) is in the game too if you want to start with a familiar character.
