In this case, it's misleading.
Not as bad as taking actual gameplay and making it an entire bullshot/lie (such as that aliens game from a few years ago), but it's pretty far up there.

Judging from op's image, they did enough to look good for the donations.

Still pretty early in development. they finished the development tools, so they can now actually start the game making itself, they have plenty of assets done, etc.

Their updates are a bit weird, it's written as a play script, with the description of each dev's role and stuff.

Most of the time, an artist working on concept art has good follow up with the devs that transitions well into the game.
Look at pic related. Morrowind is no graphical powerhouse by today's standards but if you went from concept art to in game models, you'd see it actually delivered.

In the case of OP, it's clearly the devs hiring a really good artist just for the concept art so they can hide their crapping modeling/texture skills.
Even if the model itself didn't have a derpy face, everything else just feels wrong and out of place.

Vertical Slice. Literally the approval of concept BEFORE even an Alpha. And it was never a "Official release" only developer level backers even got to play because it's pretty crude.

And they are switching engines, going from Unity to Unreal 4

AND they never hid that the gameplay models wouldn't be chibi or smaller models. It's in the fucking front page and all in-game models were stated to be chibi models.

Man I was so hyped for ouya, I know it was going to be low gfx, but I was thinking PS1/N64 level, I didn't think they were going full android, I'm glad I didn't back them. If those FFXIV orthos are anything to go off of, I'd say it's because they have REALLY good ortho artists, really good modelers, and high quality control.

I've come to realize that one of the biggest things missing from all those shitty indie game makers/companies is a lack of management for quality control and PR.
[It's something they overlook but it's necessary for all businesses nowadays.
