He always laid it down as he would start work on it once he's done with MGSV. He tried handing the game off to team B but after the framerate shitstorm during the HD remake he took back control and said he'd just push it back until after MGSV. He did specifically say he's been wanting to work on it for the longest time (Because even 1 and 2 were actually something he's envisioned and started working on in his teens)

That being said, be careful what you wish for because its getting a lore reboot, all the story in 1 and 2 will be valid (according to the dox from like three years ago) but its switching from a purely scientific setting to a more fantasy oriented one.

It is silly and weird. Its exactly what you think it is, a joke on the word cockpit. Only played absolutely straightfaced. Its a Kojima thing.

A more interesting thing that isn't actually noted on anywhere in the games but every mech has it is double thumbs on each hand. I thought it was interesting and really sold home the whole alien entity being housed in human tech deal they had going on.

Takes place in the Tanker, which is a complete Facade, yet the Tanker is probably the most well made thing in the entirety of MGS. Its short, sweet, but masterfully crafted, its actually perfect.

It ended up being one of the biggest and imo best bait and switch though after the Tanker.
