This really ruined the game for me. I was so immersed in the game and having an amazing experience riding for hours in the desert until I noticed something wrong. My horse hadn't pooped yet.

At first I thought it was constipated, or maybe sick. I waited hours in-game, and stayed up until 4am hoping my horse would just poop. That's when I realized: The horses don't poop.

The whole game just felt like a chore to play, nothing felt actually fun, with the exception of shooting things while riding and using the lasso on wanted criminals, that was kinda cool.

I hated the open-world thing, it only made things take longer than they should. The shooting felt bland, all my guns felt like they shoot out salt and shit. Missions were annoying since the NPCs keep making me hear the same bullshit all the time.

We get it, Marston did stupid shit and he is on his way to REDEMPTION, or not, maybe. And I can't even skip it when I fail the mission, because it's not cutscene, so I'm forced to hear that shit while slowly walking towards the mission the horse.

Most of the random events that happen to "make the world feel alive!" are a clusterfuck, like, when you see robbers attacking a wagon, everyone will shoot you before you're even aware that there is a robbery going on. It's such a pain to have to start from the inn and ride all the way back to my destination at the end of the fucking world because I was just passing by some idiots.

This game was the definition of a chore to me, like I already said, and it convinced me to never touch another Rockstar game or any big-ass AAA game just because someone told me it was amazing. Those big sandbox games aren't for me, and I'm not going to bother playing games that I know I don't like just because it's the new best thing ever.

Red Dead Redemption is one of the few games that I give a lot of praise mostly for its atmosphere. In terms of gameplay, it's a pretty by the book sandbox game. It's nothing revolutionary in that department, but it's good enough to get by as you would expect from GTA devs.

The strength in the game really is the setting. The characters, the art, the music, the story, everything matches exactly how someone who wants to play a western sandbox game would expect. If you're going to try to review it objectively, it's really going to come down to it being like GTA but with a different skin, but that skin is so lovingly crafted that people adore it.

If the premise doesn't draw you in, it's not going to wow you. For people who like westerns it's some good shit.

It's a great western rockstar game. It lived up to the advertisement induced hype for me personally.
I can see why people would be disappointed. A lot of people don't do any research on anything before buying a game, so they go into it expecting something it's not, and feel upset and misled. It's why you shouldn't buy a game because other people tell you it's great. Check out the game, see if it's your thing. If not then don't buy it.

Once in a while when I watch a great western I go back and replay it. The atmosphere helps a lot. If you can't get immersed or sucked into the atmosphere you may get bored.
