The initial idea was that you only got a theme when a monster "Saw" you. Khezu was the first creature with absolutely no sense of sight, and no form of eyes, so they chose to give it no song intentionally.

Plus it really boosts those horror show vibes the fucker gives off.

I used the Zinogre horns exclusively for most of 3U, because they were fucking guitars. At g-rank I only used the stygian one because it had awesome all-purpose songs.

Also after a few drinks I decided it would be a good idea to take on my first Seregios with the Hermitaur GS I made as soon as I hit high rank, and the Velociprey armor I made soon after. 15 minutes later it's captured. On to Zinogre!

Monster Hunter is the single deepest, most challenging, most skill-based game ever created. There is not a single other game in any genre that comes close to the level of skill Monster Hunter requires.

This is why Monster Hunter threads are the best, most intelligent threads on /v/. Only the smartest, brightest, and most patient people post in them. Essentially, the very best of humanity posts in them.

Conversely, the only people who don't like Monster Hunter clearly don't have the skills to handle its depth. It is too hardcore for them. That's okay though. Games like Halo exist for people like them. Monster Hunter fans are too good to hold grudges.

Is it just me or is Rathalos way more annoying in this game?

Back in 3U I found him easier to fight than Rathian but now it feels like he's flying fucking constantly and rarely leaves a decent opening. I don't know if they've actually changed his AI or if I'm just getting unlucky though.

It's still decently popular but nowhere near what it was in 3U. I guess a lot of people have moved to Charge Blade. Personally I moved to Gunlance after getting bored as fuck of Switch Axe in 3U, but I still use Switch Axe when I want to cut tails and stuff. I think it's actually a lot more fun in 4U.

Anyway, Power Phials are still the best. Element Phials are viable now though. Everything else is still a shit.

Did Switch Axe get changed? Because it feels a lot more faster than I remember. It's way better, I might even make it my main again.

Power got nerfed while element got buffed. Both are viable, so long as you pick your phials smartly. Abstain from whipping out an ice axe with an elemental phial against Zinogre, but go ahead and give Gravios a wet n' wild time if you want to.

They also depend on the monster. Some, like Khezu for an extreme example, are totally immune to flash bombs. Some, like Kut-Ku, are ridiculously susceptible to sonic bombs. Check your monster list and pay attention to the monster's anatomy to see which bomb is right for the monster.

Zamtrios is kind of weird with Sonic Bombs, because he seems to be not affected by them right when his fin surfaces, but instead when his upper body is out of the ground, so watch out for that if you ever plan to use Sonic Bombs against him

Needed three Molten Tigrex fangs for Cheda Blade+. First fight, got zero and started thinking this was the beginning of a long and painful experience.

Second round I got five. This game has been good to me so far with the drops, I'm swimming in plates of all kinds. I'm sure it means once I hit G rank I'm going to get fuck all.

Pressing R during Hack 'n' Slash now does a finisher that lets you transform into Sword mode.

Sword still does the best damage outside of Hack 'n' Slash + Mega Dash Juice nonsense, but yeah.

More or less all of Sword mode's attacks are now worth using instead of just mashing XX forever. AX does the best DPS, XA is the old XX and is quick, safe, good for cutting tails, XXX is good for flowing into AX after switching from Axe mode, etc.

Axe mode is more or less the same but since you can now flow easily into Sword mode with a big, damaging attack out of the already-powerful Hack 'n' Slash you actually do the best damage by keeping up the mode switches and using both instead of staying in Sword mode all the time when you have meter.

And as a minor change that is nice but keeps throwing me off after 500 hours of 3U the meter is now actually accurate to exactly how much of your fucking phial is left.
