Most other bosses you can summon for, or you can cheese them. Taurus Demon is your first real challenge, and you're 100% on your own.
First time through, Taurus Demon will probably be the hardest boss in the game. On subsequent playthroughs he's a chump, but that first time he's one of the hardest.
