Play either DeS or DaS first, there's no story/world connection and although there are many similarities they both have different overall designs (e.g. DeS has separate levels where as DaS is mostly open world) so there's something unique to both and you won't be thinking that one game is just objectively better because they just took the core of the previous game and simply improved it.
Don't play DaS2, it's a shadow of the previous games, you'l just feel sad when you eventually force yourself to finish it so just move onto Bloodborne if you can.

Some bosses are a bit unfair though, like the throne watcher/defender and the twin dragonriders. Fuck multi boss fights against enemies with identical movesets. At least ornstein and smough had a bit of assymetry to their movesets which made them easier to punish.

Since the story of these games don't matter in chronological order to understand whats going on, I will say to play dark souls 2 first. Simply because there are a lot of things that it did to improve from Dark Souls. I also feel that dark souls 2 is easier to get into if you don't have experience playing any of these games. but I'm not saying not to play Dark Souls. they maybe the same type of game but they both offer different experiences. which makes Dark Souls have a different feel to it then Dark Souls 2 and vice versa.

shit this happened to me when it first came out. I kept getting killed by skeletons and ghosts. I thought these were the only paths. and stayed away from the game for awhile. then a friend was like "no man its a sweet game you need to play it again." and he told me about the right path to take first that I totally didn't see. glad I did easily one of my favorite games and can beat it over and over and not get tired of it.

OP, just a quick tip. If you are planning on buying any of the games, then you should go for DaS first, becuase DaS2 is getting a GOTY edition with all DLC and some other additions in 2 moths time.

I hate this comparison; MH is full of huge oversized weapons, impossible moves and hacking and slashing away at monsters, as if those Japan need to compensate for something, but the Souls series keeps it more realistic with regular weapons and damage. I'm not saying DaS doesn't have huge ass weapons, but you have to earn those by chopping of dragon tails or something.

First one has a really coherent atmosphere, and up through Anor Londo is amazing. Quality dips after that due to development being rushed towards the end, but there's still stuff worth seeing.

Second one is much longer and definitely has areas worth seeing, but also has plenty of bland shit in between. Feels a little bloated. Cohesion in the world isn't really there anymore either; doesn't feel very "dark". Second does have more variety for viable builds, but it also has some pretty uninteresting changes to enemy attacks. In particular, enemies pivot during attacks more in 2, which feels very video-gamey instead of like you're actually in a fight.
