To make a long story short, I'm going into hospice in about a week. I will be able to take my laptop and I was wondering what games someone NEEDs to play before passing on. Any info would be great!
>>
Morrowind feggit

Good news for OP.
>>
>>284134771
I've been meaning to finish that! Thanks for reminding me, buddy. And does it really matter? We all die, I'll just hopefully be pain free when I do.
>>284134798
I played the stalkers to death, I might have to give CoP/ShoC one more run tho. I think I'll do ratchet and clank for sure also.
>>284134892
Oh fuck me, They are making another one?
>>
Alright, thanks guys. I have some suggestions now. Take it easy, I'll you guys on the other side.
>>

>>284136221

If you're still here and want to talk let me know. If this is genuine I can't imagine you're taking it as well as you're presenting yourself.
>>
Planescape: Torment

Actually. No games are needed to play before you die. You should read some good shit instead.
>>
>>284136612
Oh fuck no. I'm scared as shit, just like anyone else would be. I've thought at lashing out at people, but why? I don't want to be a bigger piece of shit then what I am already. But this is a video game board, not a hospice board.

Have you played morrowind? I'm trying to gauge how long it would take to completely finish it.
>>

>>
>>284136953
Sadly, I've tried reading. I've lost some function with my thinking and I don't think I could do a full novel/book before I go. If you do have some short stories, I would love to hear about them!

And thanks for the suggestion, I'm looking into it. It's one of the "essential /v/" games, right?
.
>>284137153
Haha, good one. I can take a joke.
>>
>>284136958

You're right, it's not a hospice board.

[email protected]

Email me, I'd be glad to talk. I'm serious. It's no problem.

I personally haven't played Morrowind, so I can't speak to the length of that.

Uh, Mother 3?

The Ace Attorney series is a personal favorite of mine. Emulating both should be easy enough. Though the AA trilogy can be a little long.

The best reading stuff that deals with death is existentialism, including its offshoots like absurdism etc.
A classic would be "Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor Frankl. Very popular, very deep, and not very hard to read.

Yume Nikki.

There's a reason it's plastered all over 4chan's banners. It's a genuinely unique experience created from the heart. It's also not very demanding. It's very trance-like and serene, even in the creepier bits of the game. It's also an RPGMaker game, so your laptop should handle it with zero trouble.

Look up the Bike Effect if you want to maximize your time.

Play Metal Gear Revengence, no you don't need to play the ones in the series previously.

Also having meet people that have been in near death and people who have been in medical emergencies (including myself), death isn't really all that bad. Its scary to think about but I'm surprised how many people who have NDEs want to stay where they where, be it mind altering chemicals or just a sense of calm it feels pretty good. I don't know what shape you are in, but maybe try getting some LSD or mushrooms and tripping out.

On the Nintendo side, Ocarina and Majoras Mask if you haven't played them as well as Mario 3D World. Play it with your friends who visit you at the Hospice.

Bastion and Transistor also must-play, Mother 3 and Knights of the Old Republic 2 (with restored content mod) are two classics of great writing.

Well OP, It was a fun ride while it lasted.

you've made some good memories during your time here with all of us,and soon, know that even though we might be cynical, rude and downright nasty at times, we feel for our fellow gamers and will miss having you in our ranks, but I guess your turn to drop the controller soon is inevitable.

This thread will be archived, so make it a good one, because everynow and then, we have threads to remember the anons that have left us.

I recommend Castlevania simphony of the night, one of my favorite games of all time

also
Final Fantasy Tactics
Chrono Trigger

>>284142815
The Walking Dead feels more like a point and click in my opinion, but it definitely has a VN feel to it.
>>
>>284142815
Yeah, TWD is VN-ish. The first season has a handful of more traditional adventure gameplay segments, but it's geared more overall towards presenting a narrative. It does a very good job at that, too. I'd recommend checking out the first season. Skip the second; they lost the two writers who made the first one so great.
"I'll miss you."
>>
>>284142815
The Walking Dead is fantastic, it's not exactly a VN, It's a bit more of a point and click and has some game mechanics in it. The second season is a bit weaker but is still really good.

If you enjoy that then you will enjoy The Wolf Among Us too.
>>
>>284142059
well I played max payne 3 recently and it was pretty fun

other than that Gunpoint was pretty good, really short indie game but with player made maps and all that. Hotline Miami was pretty challenging but easy to get into, if you like star wars Battlefront 2 is still one of my favorite games but then again if you like star wars you probably already played it.

Advanced Warfare is pretty great to be honest, I think there's a free weekend going on right now on steam so you should check it out

If you're into city builders, I'd highly recommend Banished. It's practically the epitome of "comfy." Watching your humble little settlement grow into a bustling town as your people grow up and live their lives is lovely. It's not the most expansive game, but it does what it set out to do quite well.

Katamari Damacy
Fear
Condemned
Morrowind

For novellas (really short novels) heres some must reads. You can finish these in one or two readings.

The old man and the sea by Ernest Hemingway. Very relevant to you.

Anthem by Ayn rand

Notes from the underground by fydor dostoyevsky

Banana fish (may not be the title, but its close enough for google)

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse (very very very good)

The first and last i listed are all you need. They will give you great closure.

me too, man... this girl i was close to at the time was going through fucking hell and i wanted to do was help her out of it. Needless to say thirteen made me cry like a bitch

I'll miss you, brother.

The Drakengard series, if not Nier, are must plays. They get batshit crazy/sad. Good if you're a weeb.

The Wonderful 101 makes for some truly wonderful experiences, even if you just play it on easy mode.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is so comfy it's unbelievable.

FTL is a challenging game you might enjoy.

The Professor Layton games are good.

Kirby's Air Ride is excellent if you can run Dolphin.

Illusion of Gaia is an excellent game, it is a spiritual sequel (sort of) to Soulblazer and ActRaiser, both of which are also excellent action RPGs on the SNES.

I only wish that you have more time with us to play vidya and that your passing is easy. May you have plenty of games in your backlog to keep you busy.

Idk how i forgot, but i did.

Animal farm by George Orwell
Of mice and men by John Steinbeck
Look homeward angel by thomas wolfe (not tom wolf the pretentious new age faggot who is terrible). Its 400 pages but quite possibly the best book ever written.
Yes, even better than war and peace, and the brothers Karamazov. Grapes of wrath is imo the best book ever written, but look homeward angel gives it a run for its money.
One flew over the cuckoos nest by ken kesey
Great expectations by charles dickens (quite possibly the greatest author to ever live)

And many others. I can give more recommendations if you tell me what you like. No sci-fi though, thats not real literature

Stranger in a Strange Land
Childhood's End

Catch 22
Slaughterhouse 5.
And if I were you, I'd write. Write down what you're thinking, feeling, wanting. Don't spare any details. >Best American Novel
I've read a lot of "Best American Novels" friendo. And there are many that I haven't read. Besides, it's just another coming of age story about some kid in the boondocks of america. There's a million of those. If you're gonna read a story about that sort of shit, why not read something real? "You Can't Win" is pretty good.
>Garbage
Stranger was a reevaluation of the social mores of the time and a deconstruction of morality, religion and the fear of death. It was a pretty fucking revolutionary work of fiction and is considered to be one of the major influences of the 70's and the hippy movement. It's a pretty fucking important book you uncultured swine.

Moon was pretty damn influential as well, though for other reasons.

And if you're gonna insult Mother Fucking Vonnegut I'm gonna have to tell you to fuck right off. Even in the high brow Ivory tower that guy is considered great.

Plus all these books have elements of death, dealing with loss and accepting the reality of life, so they're pretty fucking relevant.

Not saying it does or does not but it is literally impossible to say for sure that it doesn't. I don't believe in God or reincarnation for that matter, but to speak in such absolute as to say that you know something does not exist is to say that you can prove its nonexistence. As I'm certain you can not, you may say that with our best known evidence, reincarnation is highly unlikely and you don't believe in it. Regardless, its a nice story that may give someone else a bit of comfort so don't be a faggit

>Look Homeward, Angel is an elaborate and moving coming-of-age story about Eugene Gant, a restless and energetic character whose passion to experience life takes him from his small, rural hometown in North Carolina to Harvard University and the city of Boston. The novel's pattern is artfully simple -- a small town, a large family, high school and college -- yet the characters are monumental in their graphic individuality and personality.

Straight from the back of the book, friendo. I told you I haven't read it.

That depends on how I was going to die.

If it was something where I could still move around/work, I'd probably try to do as much charity work and stuff like that as I could. Make the world a slightly better place before I leave it.

Then I'd try to say goodbye to all of my family and friends. That would be the hard part.

If it was one of those debilitating slow, painful deaths, I'd probably kill myself before it got too bad. Sort of a middle finger to the disease, I-choose-how-I-die kinda thing. That would be a last resort though.

>The law of conservation of mass, or principle of mass conservation, states that for any system closed to all transfers of matter and energy (both of which have mass), the mass of the system must remain constant over time, as system mass cannot change quantity if it is not added or removed. Hence, the quantity of mass is "conserved" over time. The law implies that mass can neither be created nor destroyed, although it may be rearranged in space, or the entities associated with it may be changed in form, as for example when light or physical work is transformed into particles that contribute the same mass to the system as the light or work had contributed

Man, you just beat me to it.

Pikmin 1 is extremely short and can be emulated fairly easily if you know what you're doing. Pikmin 2 is also great but it's a bit longer.

I recommend these games partially because I'm extremely nostalgic for them, but also because the Pikmin universe is just a wonderful, creative and interesting little world to immerse yourself in. The music is extremely pleasant and all of the creatures have interesting designs. They're all thought out on a biological level, too, which I've always liked in games.

On top of that the gameplay is both easy to understand and complicated enough to be engaging. It's probably the only game I've ever played that I would call an RTS that isn't dog shit to play with a controller.

When /v/ was having Katawa Shoujo threads before they elevated themselves to a new level of cancer, some guy mentioned the idea that he would want to watch someone like Rin paint in the afterlife.

That's always stuck in my head for some reason. The idea of being at peace with someone, watching creative thoughts flow onto an endless wall. Sometimes you'd talk and sometimes you wouldn't.

It wouldn't be any more complicated than that. Sitting, watching and experiencing art being made.

Persona 3 FES (weeb simulator with neat concepts)
Paper Mario (either 64 or TTYD, both are great)
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (great writing and you get to do vampire shit)
Yoshi's Island (max comfy)
Metal Gear Solid (1-4 + Peace Walker. Fun as fuck and cuh-ray-zee conspiracy shit if you like that)

Have fun while you can OP, and go out smiling.

look at it this way: we're all just killing time until we die. some people get really into this dream, and convince themselves it's real, but ultimately we're born pure. we never needed to accomplish anything or work towards anything. none of us has a "goal" or a role to fill. and we'll all become one again. it's like some higher being got lonely/bored and spawned multiple instances of itself so it had someone to play with. life is unfinished though. we're not sure where it's going or why, but we just know to keep pushing forward. what else is there to do?

I know OP has probably left this thread but in hopes he comes back to read it I must tell him this. You are a valuable person. Being a human you are just as important as any other and keep in mind that these are the moments that makes us who we are. Take this moment and abandon all regret. I don't know if you had a hard or easy life but I do know that it was one you can call your own and one you can do with as you please. Do not give in to fear even life is scary when first introduced to it so the opposite is just that. Take confidence that you were able to be a person that could not and never will be emulated. There are no copies of you and you are no copy of any original. You are you and that's far more valuable than anything on this earth. If I could meet you I would hug you and give you a great time. I'd love to lift your spirits. Don't focus so much on afterlife or it will despress you even more through fear and worry. You be yourself and live on in the memories of your loved ones.

Lastly I respect and love you anon. Not because of what has befell you. Not because of attention on an anonymous board but because you're a valuable human and nothing can change that.

For me its the best roleplaying-experience I've ever had and its carefree tone made me forget all the shit in the world for 70 hours
Though I can understand if the weebness will turn you off, and especially the length, as you have plenty other games to play by now

Persona 3 is similiar, though different in tone. I don't know if the thematic of the game would be supportive or crushing for a person in your situation though.

he's going to a HOSPICE, you edgy fuck.
>>
>>284178479
I'm cynical, not edgy.
When you're being woken in the middle of the night to do anesthesia for an emergency procedure, which obviously is gonna give the patient a week at best, you're gonna get pissed off if it happens regularly.

My hospital has a palliative care station, which is effectively the same thing.

This just makes me upset at Valve more than anything, at least MGS5 is coming out.

They're just fucking around with Dota 2busytobearealgame and CSGOfuckyourself too much to even model a crowbar.
>>
>>284178704
Do you even know what a hospice is? It's different than a hospital. A hospice is where people go to die. That's it. No attempt at saving them. They just drug them up so they can die comfortably. They don't even do emergency procedures there.

How can you work in medicine without knowing this shit?

I worked in a hospital for 4 years, and it's true that a lot of medical staff really are shitty enough to get angry at patients for dying or suffering medical emergencies at an inconvenient time.

The time I spent working there opened my eyes to how fucking shitty many doctors and nurses really are. They're not heroes. They're often people who simply tolerate patients as best they can so they can cash their gigantic fucking paycheck and then post on facebook about how amazing and unappreciated they are.

If everyone could see the way some doctors and nurses dismiss and mock patients behind their backs, they'd probably think twice about even bothering to go to a hospital for treatment.

I've been sick as hell for two straight years now, and during that time I've seen so many basic mistakes made by medical staff, I've lost all hope of ever being diagnosed or treated properly.

I'm fully aware that most patients are fucking idiots. I worked security and had to deal with all the drunk, disgusting, bedbug-ridden offal that walked through there. I was spit on, bitten, had knives pulled on me, clubbed in the head with an iv pole. I know patients can be awful, and I had to deal with the most awful of them. That was my job. YOU'RE A FUCKING DOCTOR. YOU HAVE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES IN SOCIETY. Of course it's not fucking easy! You knew what you were signing up for. Do your fucking job that you get paid giant sums of money to do, and quit bitching that the fat lady smells bad. Boo-fucking-hoo.
>>
>>284180706
Talkiny mostly about the people that dont get there in ambulance, if its ER its understandable, but after a long night of no sleep the last thing you want to smell is some weird yellow shit coming out of a far woman's vagina. Sry if im giving the weong impression.
>>
>>284180883
Only specialists get paid the huge amounts you're talking about, people have also been violent towards me (and most of the medical staff, but fuck nurses), most doctors that are not specialists live frustrated as fuck (in my experience), and they're the ones who usually dont give a shit about their patients since "the specialist will know what to do"

>Against his will
Thats actually a lie. They released a book about it, which was essentially a text version of a Japanese documentary on the subject. Ouchi was pretty upbeat through a lot of it and only asked to go home once, but thought better of it soon after.

The story really makes it obvious that it wasn't malicious on the doctor's part, if anything it was misguided optimism. They knew the dose was fatal but they kept doing things to keep him alive, including bone marrow transplants. The idea that they were keeping him alive against his will is just creepypasta bullshit.
>>
>>284180883
Yes, so?
I have every right to complain, as long as it doesn't reduce the quality of the service.
>>
>>284141389
I'm 24 and I'm jealous you have a job and got to enjoy a 2 year relationship.
>>
>>284182451

Nope.

You chose your line of work. If you don't like it, leave. If you like it, shut the fuck up and do the job you were hired to do.

Patients don't choose to be sick. You chose to be a doctor. People come to you when they're at their worst. Sometimes that might mean that they're (gasp) haven't showered. Someone should be able to seek medical help without judgement.
>>
>>284182831
This is 100% true, i admit im a piece of shit, and inget tired a lot, but i try my best not to be a dick to people, i may laugh about some dumb shit that happened to me at work, but not in front of any patient, i try not to be disrespectful, in medical school we're rold to take care of patients the same way we would like our relatives to be taken care of, some people are idiots but they come with problems and i do my best to help them anyway.
>>
>>284183294
>we're told

Im sry
>>
>>284183294

> i try not to be disrespectful, in medical school we're rold to take care of patients the same way we would like our relatives to be taken care of

Exactly. It's normal to feel the need to blow off steam once in a while, but respecting patients is always of the utmost importance- and that's something a lot of doctors forget. And nurses, man. Fuck nurses. I mean, I know some good ones, but generally speaking they are a miserable and stuck-up bunch who are more concerned with gossiping, patting themselves on the back, and sneaking away for 2 hour-long naps than actually helping anyone.
>>
>>284183415

You're literally retarded.
>>
>>284183294
Oh so because you wear a thin veneer of being a decent fucking human being around the patient means it's okay to be a miserable cunt any other time? Fucking no.

No matter how much you lie to yourself and say you're fine and being unhappy doesn't affect the quality of your work, it does. If you don't want to do something, you are going to be much less motivated to do a good job if you're forced to.

One day you're going to fuck up because you hate the way your life turned out and you couldn't be bothered to do the best job you were able to, and heaven help you if someone dies from it.
>>

Possible till and be on pain meds if
Unbearable. I also suggesy getting your hands on psychadelics and exploring

Read into the theory that timothy leary proposes that this life is about designing your own death and that you should go

My suggestion is make a section that has access to every videogame ever made or will be made and
Play having each game be a wonderfull immersive

Yeah, medicine is stressful and you work long hours and it's gross, but there is nothing more important than compassion when you're dealing with people that are ill, injured, or in pain. I don't think there is a single other field where attitude is more important than medicine.
