Can someone explain how exactly weapons like Blood Cry work, that have status ailments on them? First I thought it dealt raw damage first, then dealt "Sleep" damage to their so called "ailment meter". From what I know it's basically like status weapons build up a hidden "meter" on the enemy monster with every attack you do and once it's full they become poisoned/paralyzed/go to sleep etc.

Every successive meter after the first takes longer and longer to fill I think.

And then it also depends on the monsters resistances. Some are easy to poison and take a lot of damage, others not at all etc.

What is the concensus on weapons this time around? Mostly a solo player here, playing only with RL friends on occasion and wondering on what weapons are fun.

I liked the Hammer and Dual blades in 3U. Are they just as good as before? Planning on using them again.
Wanting to get in to a ranged weap this time too, any recommendations? Preferably one that is decent in solo, as before I found them better suited to coop.

But yeah, just made my characters and did the introduction before I needed to recharge my 3DS so trying to look up some shit before I get dug in.

Sort of, the G version is sort of like a cross between GOTY version and an expansion pack. Just because it's the 'definitive' version doesn't mean everything is as polished as it needs to be.

anyways CB was utter shit in vanilla MH4, but in 4G it got taken to the other extreme, where it's amazing in unskilled hands and the slayer of worlds in skilled hands.

5th gen or next game will probably iron out the kinks though, personally I'd like to see them put more emphasis on skillful blocks.

I started MH3 a few days ago, half way through 3 star quests. It's weird, it's really, really, grindy, but at the same time it's quite rewarding.
I constantly feel like I'm going to get over it soon as it's just getting 'harder' to get new equipment, but somehow I'm becoming more accustomed to doing runs for resource points or potion reagents.

The difficulty is interesting as well, I'm definitely getting better but when a new big mob comes about, it's this weird hurdle, you've just become comfortable farming the last one, then this one comes around and fucks your shit for a little while.
I really admire the "preparation" between each hunt though. Sure it's a little annoying for EACH large quest, but it makes it so much easier and makes you feel like you've done really well.
I just hope I don't get too sick of grinding, I've unlocked a few things to help my potion making business, but always running around looking for specific drops and googling everything might become too much, I'm not sure yet.

I'm just surprised I'm still playing honestly.

Im not here to preach about using items as a crutch like /mhg/ would, but attributing bomb damage to the damage of your weapon isn't really logical since anyone can use them. Sure SnS can use them faster, but anyone can trap and bomb.

Using sleep weapon solo means you should be bringing barrel bombs. It's a pretty common strategy for DS and SnS users to bring a bunch.

Blood Cry is a pretty decent LS line since it gets a lot of sleep element. If you bring barrels then you can easily destroy any specific part or just drop them near the head and fuck shit up

I have noticed it with rathian sometimes. I forgive it since her tail is usually close to the ground though. Gravios' tail is so high up I can't hit it half the time even with my upward swings, there's no way his shit should be hitting you.

Gravios also has a bullshit hitbox on his hipcheck too. You can be standing to one side of him, while he hipchecks to the other side and still get hit.

Though there is that odd occasion when you are fighting two monsters with one being Gyp. If you kill Gyp first you don't get a "1 monster left" message or any "quest complete". So you're just left standing there for while awkwardly trying to see if it's a corpse or not.
