I'd really love some snow, maybe even have it set in a Nuclear Winter!
>>
>>283911119
Good engine: unlikely
Better gameplay: questionable
Either they get their shit together and actually think out coherent story and world, or I'll skip this shit as well and wait for possible Bugsidian add-on. Fallout 3 felt like wasted potential multiplied fake "creativity": they just dropped in together references to Fallout 1/2 and forgot to actually build this mash into any appealing shape. Also, please, NO MORE LEVEL SCALING
>>
don't get your hopes up about fallout 4 any time soon. There were supposed leaks about Skyrim for PS4 and XboxOne a few months back so that is most likely what Bethesda will announce at their E3 conference, not Fallout

>Fallout can never pull those numbers.

Of course it can.

Fallout is not some obscure, niche title, Fallout 3 was a very high selling game that was quite popular. All they need to do is put "From the makers of Skyrim" on the box and the next one will sell close to, if not more than, Skyrim. Fallout 3 did outsell Oblivion.
>>
>>283919595
Why? Marketing? Even my dudebro army friends were flipping shit about Skyrim. The most alpha man I've ever met in my life bought a sub to a gaming mag just to get a peek at some concept art.

Companions with actual personality (lol)

I'll enjoy FO4, but the best part of it for me is the real FO4 that will come from Obsidian afterwards. God I hope so.
>>
>>283920325

Maybe Game of Thrones had something to do with it?

TES is also a fairly unique franchise, not many people produce sandbox RPGs that aren't MMO and certainly not any that are close to as good as Skyrim. Yes, even with as bad as Skyrim is it's competitors like Risen and Two Worlds are much, much worse.

LA was in Fallout 1 as the Boneyard and is supposed to be one of the bigger settlements in the NCR by the time of New Vegas. If there's ever a game that details the fall of the NCR through some kind of civil war, I wouldn't mind seeing it again in the style of 3D Fallouts though. There's a lot of potential to flesh it out more and to show how things have changed over the years, which could be cool.

San Francisco was in Fallout 2 also, but it didn't really have as much going on in it compared to other areas like New Reno, so maybe that could work. I've always wondered what the Shi have been up to, as cheesy of a faction as they were.

Change vats to a slow mo type deal. It would still have the auto targeting feature, but instead of time stopping it just slows way the fuck down while you try to figure out which limb perrcentage to hit is worth it. can't take to long though, as you're constantly draining AP, being in vats. You can, of course turn off the percentage chance auto aim thing, and just take as many shots as you've got the time for til the action points run out, but that's not an assured hit most of the time.

More consistent world:

In every Fallout but three water was a problem but every surface survivor had enough radiation resistance to drink that which was found. Agriculture was also a fully developed thing and there was even limited factorization of basic things like ammunition, assault rifles, and body armor.

I'd also like to see Tribals actually be a thing again.

Also the ability to choose your starting path: Let you be a Tribal, a Villager somewhere, a Scavanger, that sort of thing.

The big problem I had with Fallout 3 was that nothing in it made sense for two hundred years after the war; it made sense for like, twenty years after the way, maybe thirty. The random food left around, the ground water being dangerously irradiated, the buildings not looted thoroughly. All they had to do was have the same basic story but replace the super mutants with some kind of raider army and the Brotherhood of Steel with remnants of the local National Guard garrison. Change the beginning speech to something like "Long before the rise of the wasteland civilizations, before the Master and his army, before the Brotherhood of Steel, there was the struggle for the survivors unlucky enough to get to a vault. They survived the nuclear fires, now they must survive the scortched new world"
>>
>>283911119
customizeable armors. Like, instead of just repairing by destroying another perfectly good suit of armor, allow us to break them down into parts. Power armor can, of course, be repaired with electronic parts, but then again, you could also replace that pauldron with a bunch of license plates. Being able to craft weapons with a sort of in game physics engine type deal. Like, picture besige, but being able to make a firearm or energy weapon or melee weapon out of a fairly simple system like that. But it can't just be a bunch of decent weapons. there must be absolutely shit weapons as well. like, a power fist that releases small gunpowder charges combined with the ability to catch things on fire. Sounds great, but when you use it, 6/10 times it explodes on your hand, crippling that arm and catching you the fuck on fire. You fucking idiot. or making what is essentially a spike bat with nails throughout the entire goddamn thing. You cut your hands you dumbass, hope the slightly boosted dmage was worth it. Essentially poor customizations that allow idiots to fail. maybe even custom ammo crafting. "You want to make a shot gun shell with magnesium buckshot and homemade napalm? Well hey, be my g- aaand you're on fucking fire dipshit"

agreed, perhaps the game should have more of a flow, with the mpa designed so that every time you go to anew town, most of the quests there are completeable in the surrounding area. Then various events from the main quest will force you to back track to previous areas where new shit is happening ala broken steel. Like, you do all the quests you can and once shit hits the fan in the main quest, things change completely. like, different outcomes for all the quests that you can see fairly clearly, including outcomes for if you didn't complete them. Also, the ability to actually build a faction yourself, but at the cost of pretty much not being able to do any fun shit ever again.

Speaking of Tribals, I'd like to see Van Buren happen. There's a LOT of NV references to it that sounded interesting, like the antithesis of Caesar's legion as the Hounds of Hecate, lots of new tribal types like the Hangdogs, Twin Mothers, Ciphers, etc. Heck, I'd actually play a game that has you playing as a young Ed Sallow, building up the Legion, dealing with the different tribes, etc. The man's backstory sounded pretty awesome, especially when Joshua Graham is figured in, etc. It'd also be a refreshing chance to not play as a chosen one type hero.

Take place on the East Coast, (I hated the Mojave Desert). Preferably with a large desolated city like DC, rather then safe and populated New Vegas.

Less civilization and more crude tech, I know it is nice that humanity picked itself back up, but this is a post apocalyptic game, I want to see humanity struggle like in Fallout 1.

being able to make custom additions to power armor. For example, bolting on some extra plating would cause you to move slower, so you could add a more powerful set of servos, but that requires more power to operate without brownouts so now you've got to get a bigger battery or nuclear reactor inside the armor. Or you could instead turn it into a stripped down speed machine. Lightly armored but with lots of quickyl moving servos and rotors and such. Essentially, great for sneaking around while maintaining some semblance of protection.
Perhaps another suit that has pretty standard armour but focus's primarily on having lots of built in storage capacity and stuff for blocking enviromental damage, if not bullets. great for scavenging, great for long hauls. less need for repairs, but not going to turn you into a death machine. Another customization point allows you to move quickly, because it holds almost no armor at all but is essentially just a big mount for a shield generator. hope you have enough energy cells or fission batteries to maintain that shit NERD. Another series of upgrades that would allow you to get more out of energy weapons, with little upgrades that make them shoot faster or whatever, with the final tier of buildable upgrades attaching a massive fucking generator to your back, that allows energy weapons to have a ton of power and practically infinite ammo.

I mean, not saying scap it, I'm with you. It just shouldn't be /everything/, you know? We can handle some stuff on our own. I just feel way too safe when I'm going through those menus, you know? and they had to make up such a bs excuse for having it in FNV. It shouldn't be our essential everything, we're big boys and girls, we can handle ourselves. Just my opinion. Tired of feeling comfy in a wasteland, I just want a difficult game where I can struggle a bit.

Yes, perfect. I'm still fond of a notebook for quest, journal, notes, all that though, and maybe the occasional local map if there are no floor plans on the buildings you enter, tough thats a stretch. This world is a beautiful vase that shattered into a million pieces, and hat's not rebuilt is rough around the edges and gethered in dust. Even the rebuilt parts are never the same. In short, I'm not a fan of overly civilized Fallout, and New Vegas was good, but it was just so settled. I want to go new places unseen by wastelanders and Build shit ground up. I can't get enough of the post-war, pre-reconstruction feel I guess. The pipboy is a big part of determining whether you feel like you've got your bearings or not. New ground, man.

>>
>>283949232
I dig it. And perhaps having a bit more focus in the story on how wastelanders can't actually do anything without technology of the old world. Like elija tried to explain, we're all relying on a dead worlds scraps rather than forging our own path, and so we end up with people hiding in bunkers and not building new things. Perhaps a game set on an NCR forntier that everyone is just now arriving in trying to fight over. Like, maybe the missippi river. Like, they're trying to get control of the river, there's a huge company that allows people to put themselves under that Tramp Trading company where they independently ferry cargo up and down the river. But other than that, there are few local factions. The NCR and the east coast brotherhood are penetrating into the area, and you're one of the opportunistic folks breaking into the area trying to make some cash. You're in a massive wilderness and your actions can make or break certain settlements.

You hooked me on wilderness. I'm one of those players who saw his first rainfall in Honest hearts and was blown away. I love the unsettled hills and canyons out west in Fo3. If we got to somewhere *new* like that Mississippi River, it'd be great. Unknown, unseen threats, a blank canvas for new lore to settle, new creatures, untapped ruins, tranquil wilderness, dynamic weather, new ground. The prospector, the soldier, the wanderer, the courier, the nomad, it doesn't matter, they're all the Settlers. I'd love to see new terrain like the Mississippi, right with you.

>implying playing a game for fun without getting totally invested is bad
People who wouldn't play a game and get invested in it, wouldn't get invested anyway.
They'd just skip all dialogue and play through the game.
Just because there are people out there like that, not willing to play an RPG, but an FPS exploration simulator, doesn't mean actual RPG fans should be punished with a dumbed down game that didn't need to be dumbed down in the first place.

I hate the way the TES series is going, Skyrim was an absolute travesty that nobody but the biggest of casuals call good. Just look at any youtube comments on a video related to Skyrim or TES now.

I just hope Fallout isn't going down the same route, but it's Bethesda so I'm not holding my breath.

Each one has a slightly different main quest, different types of dialouge
>soldier can readily converse about military weapons and some power armor variants
>caravaner has more knowledge about trade agreements and that sort of thing
>opportunist is a lying shithead

>different goals of each person
>choose weather or not you want to keep going and get involved in the shit about to hit the fan or if you want to just do what you came for: explore, trade, fight for profit etc.

Brilliant. No one set story, that's what Bethesda has bothered me by the terms of RPG stuff with. It's not "What do you want to do?" It's always "How do you want to do this?" It'd be great to not just play builds for gameplay, but story and personality too. You could pick freeform characters based on varieties of traits too, like
>Basic character build, tag skills, looks, etc.
>Primary motivators
>Disposition
>Series of view-based questions
>Homeland
>Intentions
>demeanor
other just personality fleshout stuff, There are a lot of people in the waste besides faction and karma. Even slight differences in main quest would be great.

What if they actually completely switch engine but as a result modding becomes almost impossible?
>>
>>283953610
yeah, i feel, though, that maybe these shouldn't be so huge in the character. Like, homelands and such should be left up to the imagination of the player, with only a few things about their skillset being remembered after a crash like that. Then it lets people envision their own stories. Also, there should be traits included from the crash, like injuries and such. Like, after escaping the swamp you are able to check yourself at an auto doc which allows you to pick and choose what things are happening to your body from the crash or even, perhaps from before. Maybe slow ghoulification could be one, your dip in the swamp has heavily irradiated you and as the game progresses you will slowly become a ghoul. OR, you can try to cure or reverse the process as the game progresses. Perhaps you have schizophrenia and thus you will be tormented by strange visions at random. Perhaps you have a bad case of malaria ala far cry 2. Maybe you have nothing wrong at all, maybe you've got a shit ton of broken bones.
>>
>>283952954
I like parts of this for sure. As long as you can still customize your build, I'd be all over it. I'm still hoping we get a Fallout: New Orleans, where the swamps are homes to mutant nasties, and the cities and bayou culture would be varied and crazy.
>>
>>283955059

>>
>>283955656
well, yes, but this would be a bit more punishing. Instead of being a hand holding excercise it is a tutorial in the sense that it forces you to learn or you die. And I agree, tutorials are generally bad, but the idea of learning the game through gameplay is good. Take, for example, in old games when you could witness a new enemy in action from afar before actually fighting it (see megaman X)

okay yeah that's easy

I want it made by Obsidian again and for it to be NV2 but without Bethesda the dev or Bethesda the publisher sticking their nose in and rushing things is that so much to ask?

And that will never ever ever ever ever happen ever so 2nd option is cancel the series and never make another one again thanks.

Simmer down there pal. I'm the same anon who was talking about accessability earlier in the thread. I like a good opener to set the stage. If it's my third playthrough maybe I'm going to get annoyed, but let's chalk this up to opinion rather than right and wrong.

I just want it to come out soon so that the wait for Obsidian to come in and fix everything with a "sequel" is lessened.

Yeah this. That and a new engine.

I agree, but it's kind of a fun gimmick if you know about it going and you can choose it. like, maybe there's a strain of malaria affecting the bayous and that you can apply bugspray and whatever to avoid mosquitos, tablets to stave off the symptoms and only a couple doctors know how to cure it, and you have to go on a journey to find a cure for it. A major quest in the game is finding a vaccine for the disease, but then you can choose to use it yourself completely curing yourself of the illness forever and with no chance of getting it again whilst dooming everyone else to keep living with it forever, or you can allow a doctor to synthesize more of the vaccine , thus creating what is basically a blood shield, reducing the possibility of catching the disease, but not fully preventing it.

So, kind of like a new and different kind of radiation and prevention thereof, instead of just beginning with it because reasons? I mean, as something you could potentially have happen to you, I can dig it, as long as it's not shoehorned in.
>>
>>283956148
yeah, but I think the swamp crash thing would be more along the lines of the NV intro. You land, choose class, background etc. then you learn about gameplay by being hunted til you reach a shack somewhere. from there you build your face and figure out your traits or ailments, do some basic shit and from there, you're off on your own.

I want horses or cars with very limited range because lol no oil (or you can use that mini-fusion energy shit as very-late end game)

Its pretty much obvious that bethesda are cheap jews and will use Creation Engine so just try to make combat less shit.

No idea where the location should be because britbong but it should always stay in America with maybe mexico as DLC

Keep up the mod support, help with the community because everyone knows the mods are the cherry ontop of their shitpile games.

Please keep the lore intact and remove all reference to Fallout 3.

Stop with the fucking Enclave masterbation and keep the diverse factions.

right, like you can choose to have it from the start or just end up getting it in the wastes, but it's a pretty difficult thing to get rid of. Like, it doesn't just go away with a doctor visit, you have to specifically work on improving these doctors to be able to cure it. In the late game, there is a doctor or two that have the capacity to cure it themselves, but in their case, you likely won't see them til you've already had it for a while. But yeah, it wouldn't just be a random gimmick. Unfortunately, it would likely be handled like radiation, in that it gets worse over time constantly, with different milestones increasing problems with it, and having drugs that reduce the symptoms. But not just some random shit you always have to deal with. And making it a factor in encounters with other npcs, like running into a bandit camp where everyone's basically keeled over and refuses to move, or at random intervals large numbers of named npc's in villages will be affected if caravans with medicine are delayed (or raided by you) and you could use this as leverage. Damn a town for long enough and they cave to your demands to get them to enter the faction you might be building.

I can't see this happening with the current engine.

> Horses are extinct

I'm pretty sure this only fucking happened because the designers were too lazy to impliment a fucking obvious mode of transport a car-deprived society would use.

Even if there was a legitmate reason why horses magically got all wiped out, do you really think no one thought to sit on a brahmin and teach it to move with a person on its back.

Bullshit in 200 years did no one think "gosh I love walking around for miles with this cow-bull thing walking beside me with all my luggage" instead of jumping on as well.

I think that an interesting thing might be to have something of a metagame in which there are caravans that are constantly going to villages and cities that are carrying money, supplies, etc. It's not controlled by actual physical goods, but like in a "running in the background" type of way. If you raid a caravan, maybe it will throw things off a bit for a major town. But if you keep killing off boats and caravans for small villages you can bring them to their knees. Starve them, deprive them of vital materials and ammo, prevent medicine from reaching patients. You can essentially take over a town and use it as a homebase for yourself and any hoodlums you might attract in your forays into misanthropy. BUT, you could also set up a small house in a bunker you find, clean things up, get the power running. it's much more expensive, but people won't hate you. then you can slowly attract followers both generic and named to populate it. Maybe you fashion your new center as some manner of military compound, perforiming mercenary work for other factions and villages. Maybe it's a science center, improving life for others and selling medicine. Maybe it's a simple farming village, attracting a large population of settlers and such. But, perhaps you could make it into its own very powerful city. Balancing these elements to make a functioning city that can compete with the others. Or, as stated above, you could just ransack a town and force the population to work like you, with the option to randomly shout "WHO RUN BARTER TOWN?" as you stomp around the joint.

You. We need you in charge of things.

Whoa, man. Don't get mad over canon. All that aside, NV had lots of caravans with bighorners and brahmin pulling packs, etc. They'd just be really effing slow, I'd imagine, since it's mentioned that both are pretty fucking stupid. Either way, 2 had the Highwayman, vehicles need to make a comeback. We definitely agree on that point.
>>
>>283960732
...this actually sounds pretty fucking awesome, if implemented correctly.

>They'd just be really effing slow

Irrelevant for the caravaner since now they walk right next to their slow ass pack brahmin.
