I finished Dark Souls 1 today for the first time.

It was kind of hard but then I got the black knight halberd and absolutely wrecked everything when I fully upgraded it. I enjoyed fighting Gwyn, a very clean final fight, no bullshit, sorta sad also with the music.

And holy fuck did I miss half the game or something? I even looked up shit now and then even tho I tried to metagame but I never fucking fought Astorias or got into the painting, didn't get that sweet ring that makes you into a acrobat either.

Artorias is a DLC boss fight. You have to have bought the DLC to fight him (totally worth it though.)

To get into the painted world you need the Peculiar Doll which you get from going back to the very start of the game. Honestly, getting back there is kind of retarded so feel free to use a guide.

I'm willing to bet you also missed out on The Great Hollow and Ash Lake.

You should know that Black Knight weapons kind of destroy the game on NG, especially the Halberd. You may want to avoid them in the future. They also scale like shit in NG+ so they're really only good for NG.

The biggest issue with Allant is that he doesn't have high damage output, doesn't really combo, and his attacks are slow and flashy enough that you can chow down on grass while he's still flipping and glowing.

Gwyn is relentless and constantly chases you down. Finding the opportunity to heal with Gwyn is almost impossible unless you're poise cheesing.

If you put Allant and Gwyn in a room and had them fight it out, Gwyn would win.

If you like axes, I strongly recommend ascending a +10 axe into a Golem Axe. It has an amazing moveset.

I don't know, I think DeS and DaS have their own strengths and weaknesses.

DeS had fantastic level design and great sound design. I love how every armor has its own sounds, and how enemies can detect you if you're wearing clunky, loud armor. I love how distinct every weapon feels. And I love how well designed every enemy encounter feels.

However, I feel like DeS suffers with its bosses. Some neat ideas, but most of the bosses just feel dull. The only bosses that really stand out to me are Old Monk, Fools Idol, Storm King, Old Hero, and Allant.

Also there's a distinct lack of armor choices, gender divisions with armor, very little in the way of secrets, (in my opinion) less replay value, and the upgrade system is painfully convoluted. Grass grinding is also a pain.

You get hit by an arrow you either fly forward or backward in the direction you're facing, not the direction the arrow hits at. And the other archer sometimes still shoots you while you're up there. On my first playthrough of Dark Souls I got the black knight sword after about 20 attempts in Undead Burg. I didn't really like it to begin with, but it came in handy for tough enemies cuz it was so strong. Eventually I went standard sword and shield with it, which was pretty fun.

But then I got past the door in Darkroot Garden and man it was one of my favorite video game moments. I went one on one with that hardass knight and his mage friend and it was so intense. I watched the knight so intently that eventually I just adopted his play style and started two handing it. From then on I felt like a true knight and fuck was it fun.

I really hope Bloodborne is as good as it looks.
