So I ordered the ultimate edition from Gamestop and the order closed and supposedly shipped. It's been a week and nothing. I tried the tracking number to see if I could glean any information on where it is but the post office's site says there is no package with that number. To be fair, I used a PO Box and Gamestop's email said there would be no tracking if I used a US PO Box.

So the question, should I be concerned yet or should I just man up and learn patience?

I'm trying to think of what armor skills work well with it since I'm been using GS up to halfway through High rank, but diablos armor is a bit squishy so everything hits me like a truck and some monsters just tag you in your openings too quickly with GS, even to defend.

That depends on what mode you see yourself using more, really, as well as the offered raw/element values.

Personally I don't like using Sword Mode much as the primary means of attack and will switch back and forth depending on whether the monster is downed or exhausted. The mobility and reach on Axe Mode is my jam, so I don't mind if I get element phials, seeing as that basically means that it turns Phial Burst from decent to fucking ridiculous and I DO love using that move.

A lot of people will tell you to focus on power phials since it makes sword mode stronger than axe mode in the raw department, which is true. But if that element phial axe has higher raw value period, then the difference is going to be down to your play style.

Exhaust phials are okay if you like to tire out monsters, but not useful at all for actually knocking them out.

You know how when you get the Frenzy Virus that, if you're aggressive enough, you can turn it from a potential debuff into an affinity boost?

Apex Monsters are like that, but for monsters. Instead of the virus taking control of them, they're aggressive enough to achieve symbiosis and use it for themselves. They're shit tonnes stronger and faster than their frenzied versions and in many cases will gain new moves and borrow moves from their subspecies and variants despite not being capable of them before. Not to mention that even on purple sharpness, with Mind's Eye/ESP, you can bounce on a number of their hitzones regardless.

I wish more CBs had impact phials.

God damn man, seeing stills of some things lets me see exactly how much detail they put into the game. The hunter isn't just holding the Swaxe out, she has it tucked under her arm, twisting her wrist around it, to support the large weapon while it's charging up. You can say all you want about the graphics, but Monster Hunter has incredible detail on the animations and movements of the players and the monsters.

When can I start making decorations? Need to know if I should make this Peco set now or wait and slot in Maestro.

Just beat Shaggy Magala. I was expecting a hard fight, instead it had very predictable moves. Fight still took like 15 minutes. Had more trouble with Gore, which was pretty easy too. Both were still wery fun fights.

Move towards the mouth as he winds up while not in Frenzy mode
If you're around his head area while he's in Frenzy Mode, you can roll into him and avoid the explosion. Same thing with his giant stomp attack

To be fair I only played 3U on 3DS so yeah, I'm biased against it. I still feel it was handled poorly though. I can understand moving slow in water because of everything weighing you down but I never had any fun with it since I couldn't keep up with the speed of monsters that preferred being in water. I had less thrills underwater and felt it was more like a chore.

When online I use a hammer if no one else is so that I can help the team by stunning the monster. Otherwise I pick glaive and aim for weak spots.
The few times I've played online people seem to mount the monster pretty often so I didn't see any point in spamming it.

And yes you're right, there's a little variation but head is red, appendages are orange, general mass is white and tails/extra limbs are green.
Like I said there's variation to this, like when the monster is some wacky fucker that doesn't have legs, the Najarala's tail for instance is also red at the tip, along with it's head.

He'll absorb the essence based on the location he hits the monster whether or not you use the pheromone, the pheromone shot just acts as a beacon that it homes towards.
It can be a little annoying to use, because it doesn't change course mid-air so whether it's really worth it to take the time and use pheromone shots mid-fight, or just wing it and free-aim the bug at it's face is up to you.
It's usually a decent idea to charge up the drill attack and get close if possible since then even if the bug misses you're hitting it in the face yourself.

Hold down R+X with weapon drawn, after a while it'll ping and you can do a multi-hit slashing attack with your glaive whilst your insect flies out extra-fast.

The only annoying thing is the camera is controlled by the touch screen. You will get used to it really quick. If you have it positioned at the top, hitting up on the touch screen dpad can be a bit of a bitch since the top of the touch screen doesn't register as well as the rest. If you have it at the bottom, the same is probably true for hitting down.

Not terribly. 5% body carve, 4% tail carve, 3% head wound reward, 2% from shinies. Tipping the Scales has a shit tonne of 1% chances of getting a plate in the reward screen at that.

Gore plates aren't rare in the slightest.

Not counting shinies and quest rewards, but counting tail carves, there's something like an 18.5% chance of getting a plate from any given quest

I see retards who do nothing but fish for it. I don't think I've even seen somebody use their Kinsect or getting properly buffed up. They just play "Monster Mounter" and waste time. Additionally, it's not fun watching somebody jerk off ontop of the monster more than 3 times per hunt.

Yup, an IG kept up fairly well with red buffs is monstrous to the point where spamming the vault attack to try for mounts is wasteful, it's buffed attack combos are intense.

After you kill a monster you can still till hit it with the essence tracker.
If you are a big nerd like me you can study a dead monster after carving to see where about the main buffs are on the monster so you know for future fights.

I just start a fight then tag the 3 parts and just go ham

If you've worn it down a bit you'll lose two sharpness levels in a row from blocking certain monster combos. It was pretty funny.

I'm wondering if I should go with the Speed+/Power+ bug that never bounces ever, or the Speed+/Stamina+ type bug that can attack forever and charges pretty much instantly when holding R+X once it returns.

Honestly I would have preferred speed+power with instant charging, but I suppose them's the breaks when you go Full Bugmaster.

I don't play like that online because I read that excessive mounting is rude for some reason.
I don't see the big deal myself, since mounting nets like a ten second stun.
If not mounting is what makes me a good teammate though, then I don't mind at all
I'm going to practice no mount boss fights using the strategies anons above recommended

Well in the demo I got an 11 minute Tetsucabra run with bug only and I'm sure I could do even better.

Certainly it would be easier versus some monsters than others.

Boss monster corpses hang around for over a minute after death. So after you scoop up your carves just have a quick study session.

When you can get into super saiyan in under a minute of confronting a monster then that fight is going to be VERY fast.

Pretty sure he's referring only to large monsters, which don't disappear whether or not you carve them on a quest. Even in gatherings they don't disappear until a little while later.

People who always choose to mount instead of attack it normally are shitters.

And if you do nothing but that, you're bringing us down. I don't want to sit around and wait for your minigame to end over and over. You're not contributing properly unless you're using your weapon at full capacity. Mount spamming is for scrubs. Make sure to get buffs and combo that monster.

It's not about NOT mounting, it's about moderation. Mount when it's mad. I'll praise you for that. Mount when you have a good opening, but please just use every aspect of your weapon.
