Psh! if the dialogue isn't cheesy then I don't want that Ace Combat game (looking at you AC:AH, god I fucking hate you, if I wanted COD I would buy that!). It's fun if you can get into it, but I'm sure you know that already.
<<I'm gonna miss that voice>>
you maybe a faggot Chopper, but you're my faggot
i completely agree you believe me, and don't get me started with AH, it's staring right at me from my shelf and my god can you say buyers remorse?
<<He, he was a model fighter pilot to the end. Join me
I'm not sure if there were any large bodies of water around November city, at least not within reach.
But I might be mistaken.
Even then though, ditching is only marginally more desitable than crashlanding in a stadium. Especially when the canopy is stuck.
I forget the exact way it worked, but was the expectation not that one big meteor would come down, meaning they could shoot it from one location?
Then in reality, as the meteor got close to earth, gravity tore it into lots of smaller pieces, which stonehenge wasn't really designed to hit, hence the damage done.
I think in reality the difficulties of constructing the system plus nuclear proliferation would leave it off the tables.
He was trying to make sure the jet wouldn't crash down in any populated centres.
If he'd hit the water and was still inside, he'd be dead anyway. Jet fighters tend to dicintegrate on impact. He'd pretty much be crashing in a storm of metal and water strapped to a heavy chair with a load of debris and shit around him.
He'd have been fucked either way. He was trying to minimise casualties.
this looks like a flight game tread
so whats you guys opinion on Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X?
i brought it the other day and is using a warthog joystick and think its a great game
this is the kind of shit that would make Michal bay blush
I disliked it for not being ace-combat and being so american when i played it (also because PMCs are cop outs), but overall I guess it was okay. i remember it being quite pretty and some missions being cool.
Hawx 2 can die in a ditch.
<<Today's my birthday! A victory would sure be nice.>>
I HAVE SO FAR TO GOOOOO AND ONLY HEAVEN KNOOOOOOOOOOWS
>tfw Infinity has killed any chance of a collection release
The campaign starts out weak as piss and so are most (all?) of the recreations of old battles, at least in SP.
But things really ramped up in the final mission to the point where I could imagine (and only imagine) Project Aces making a new campaign to a high standard if only a publisher would let them.
Garbage, but it had a couple of decent tracks and one mission which no stupidly long cutscene at the start: just you and a furball to get stuck into. I remember Tokyo being a decent mission too apart from the constant raindrop effect.
It's funny how HAWX 2 turned out so similar to Assault Horizon, yet managed to have a tunnel run at its very end, and a free-flight mode.
and how did you feel about voice controls?
saying fox 2 and then watch a missile fly off is just pure awesomeness
of course buttons is the way to go when things get hectic though
also what view did you use? im sticking with cockpit when im not in OFF mode
Sounds like he needed to git gud.
Was he gay?
> tfw you will never have a qt brown fighter pilot lusting after your dick.
There needs to be some kind of crisis to split the UN mercenary air wing down the middle. Maybe USEA finally pushing into Western Europe or North America beyond B7R where the UN's seats of power lie
or the UN being unable to pay its aces.
The content of its missions mainly. Even when you do get to play, they feel like very poor, watered down imitations of stages I've already played so many times over by now.
It also had too many Mirages.[/spoil
What's your guys opinion on Pic related? imo it held up pretty good as an AC game but I felt like the missile tracking was pretty shit compared to AC4/5/Z and they could have toned it down with the Dance with the Angels crap
It was also my first AC game after I heard about the series on /v/
>tfw you find out Pixy is based on a real person, Zivi Nedivi.
Demoted for ignoring trainer instructions to eject, then promoted for saving the aircraft. He didn't even realise he'd lost the whole wing until he landed.
The biggest crime was it wasn't ported to the PS3. The story is corny garbage, but fucking Shakespeare compared to this pigshit.
its funny how they advertise the story as a "Dramatic Realistic story" when its probably more bullshit then the games set in Strangereal
Markov was a shit tier cheating rival and Guts was the most useless wingman ever
Loved it. It's one of the few games that feels genuinely 'next-gen' to me when compared with its predecessors on previous consoles, even if some of the missions felt too big for their own good.
>dat large scale combined arms
>dose long-lasting fluffy missile trails
I'd load up the official site for it every once in awhile after watching the TGS trailer, since it would play Liberation of Gracemeria.
Oh yeah, it's not just the stage design. I just didn't want to get into the writing end because that isn't as relevant to a lot of people. There's something about the rest of the Ace Combat games outside of Assault Horizon that just isn't in AH or HAWX. I think a lot of it has to do with the way war works in Strangereal (especially its selection of superweapons), and the attitude pilots have to combat. Like they're knights with flying horses.
Liberation of Gracemeria is probably one of my favourite soundtracks ever
>that build up
I only played Ace Combat 3. It was weird as fuck, pretty repetative and the story is slashed to bits from the Jap release.
If you play the PS2 versions and REALLY want more, then maybe get translated Jap versions.
<< This is Thunderhead. Don't worry, Ace Comba General also called /aceg/ has you covered. I personally put this idea to Kono in May last year. Not that it will happen, but, it was worth a try. >>
<< In an incredible coincidence, the guy who originally made the box art I used then came along and met Kono as well. That's him in cosplay. >>
<<You're not gonna believe this, Jean-Louis! All of them have ribbon insignias!>>
>this starts playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZBoiW460nU
>that massive rush of adrenaline
Megalith is the best mission in any Ace Combat, ever.
The music, the voices becoming more and more panicked, Gene completely losing all grip on reality once Yellow 13 is shot down, fucking 10/10, best of bests.
If nothing else, you made a fucking cool memory for the guy who made the cover mock-up.
I remember someone posting it in a thread ages ago, and I nearly shat my ants before I noticed the file name was "This will never happen". I felt disappointment I hadn't felt in a long time.
No fooling, I'd walk over glass for a HD remake. Ace Combat got me through some shitty times as a kid.
I still cry when I listen to Journey Home.
Play the PS2 ones first, once you're done go back to 2, if you really want to see the beginnings 1 (titled "air combat") is okay but very rough around the edges.
it's cool to see certain elements, like how many missiles to kill enemies, were in the game from game 1.
If I only have a 360 which game should I get? Been wanting to play a jet/flying game for fucking years. Last games I played like that were Red Baron 1 and 2 on the pc forever ago. Should I go for HAWX or AC?
Oh hey, nice thread you have here. Would be a shame if someone were to......force you to fly below 2000 feet.
>Stonehenge fires in tandem with a Burst missile
>Tfw we still have so far to go
I'll see your Megalith and raise you one Fighter's Honor
>You will never watch Wardog Squadron fight Pixy
>You'll never see Pixy and Nagase argue between MUH BORDERS and MUH PEACE
>you will never see blaze, cipher and mobius 1 fighting together
>you will never see the ghost of razgriz, the demon lord of the round table and the grim reaper together flying the same skies together
It has certainly become an Infinity general, which is fine but it's not really what I want to talk about. I'm not that interested in whether or not I should be using 'MSL THING M' or 'MSL THING Lightweight'. I do play it sometimes, and I'm pretty good, but those guys are insanely good.
Anyway I tend to forget to check it these days. It's over 100 threads now though, so that's something.
>you will never fly as a Belkan Experte
>Ace Combat 1946 will never happen
>noone even bothered to make an AC campaign for IL2 1946
>Ace Combat 7
>Belka builds a superweapon capable of striking the entire Osean continent
>Invades and occupies the entire continent
>The Game is the entire world having to band together to defeat Belka once and for all
I'd play the fuck out of that game
I don't know shit about real world aviation and I realize AC physics are the farthest thing from realistic, but what's the problem with flying under 2000ft? That's still half a kilometre off the ground
<< SHACK ON THE TARGET >>
The story exists, for one thing. It also has multiple branches, and there is voice acting.
I asked Kono what the deal was at the London Expo in May last year, and he said (after putting his hands to his head and laughing about it after understanding my question) it was due to the small localisation team available at the time.
It certainly looks very nice. I think it's definitely the nicest looking AC game. But the attempt to intertwine three story lines into one coherent narrative didn't work.
I fully accept the story is sub-par, but I really enjoyed the in-mission narrative and character chatter.
It's really the gameplay that stands out for me, the maps and missions are so much larger, give you the ability to choose what objectives you want to tackle, and make you feel like you are flying in a real war.
i know that feel, the amount of shit they add in during the missions looks intense as hell
Is it weird that I played through AC4 and didn't even realize the moment I shot down Yellow 13?
It just told me I killed him in the next cutscene after a mission, but I don't remember an epic fight or a named yellow-squadron plane.
The last Yellow in the dogfight you shoot down at Farbanti is Yellow 13. It was a nice leadup i reckon throughout the game how you couldn't land a single hit on the Yellows until you shove a missile up Yellow 13's ass at Comona Islands and then have the final encounter with him at Farbanti.
s'what I thought.
Also I know everyone typically likes the cheese and crazy superweapons of Ace Combat, but I would like to say that the actual narrative arc in 4 was legitimately impressive to me. Like yeah the main story is a country taking back it's lands. But the fact that the main cutscenes of the game were an entirely different perspective was really cool. And the cutscene stills looked beautiful as well.
I loved the fact that the 1st mission of AC4 takes place in the same region as AC2. And the final mission of AC4 takes place in the 1st mission of AC2. I loved the stories on Strangereal. I didn't mind Assault Horizon too much besides the stale characters and dogfighting mode.
Yeah I started the series with 4, then went back and played 2 then it's remake and recognized the area and started geeking out.
This thread actually made me kinda depressed because my PS2 is home and I'm not.
I've been working on a top-down dogfighting game inspired by Ace Combat. Minus the fact that gameplay-wise it won't be like Ace Combat at all but never mind.
Programming AI is really hard.
Just emulate it my friend. The PS2 emulator has gone far and the holy trinity is actually playable now! You'd get FPS drops on 3rd person view on some missions though but its better in cockpit mode I say!
For some reason this webum is mesmerizing.
Also that seems really cool, as long as you don't make the "hard" enemies bullshit in that they just have a ton of health or magically avoid your shots you should be fine.
>tfw you delay the SOLG destruction just so you can hear more CUM HISTORIA
what i've always wondered is:
are ace combat style canyon flights viable in real life?
or area-88 style for that matter.
But Anon you could have just as stupid and overthe top super weapons with WWII and Korean War stuff.
>a WWII endboss would be equipped with a shitton of Ruhrstahl X-4s
>it'd be Pasternak all over again
Also if anyone is interested, I got this Rot Staffel skin for Cliffs of Dover that I made for /wtg/ ages ago.
I'd kek all the way through. It's a good bomber hunter and that's about it
Thanks based Mk103. It's slow and it's a huge target to anything.
>it would be one of the missions to shoot this thing down before it reaches orbit or to protect it from attacks
I don't know what an appropriately crazy final boss would be based on WW2 technology. This fucking thing was SWON's final boss but speaking in Ace Combat terms it would be more appropriate as a kind of roadbump halfway through the game.
That could be put into some air fleet. Alongside with some huge Hresvelgr like bomber. You know for carrying the fighter protection along
Although personally some Pixy fight would be what I'd go with or the good old giant base/tunnel run thing.
Nah some original design or at least one of the huge flying boats germany built towards the end of the war.
It was just missile/evasion spam when I played it back when it was new.
I also still suspect that there were cheaters around when I was playing. Or the killcam was bugged as it kept showing me this guy just hovering in place always killing everybody.
It's all the subtle hints in 0 that makes me think he's Mobius 1.
>Pixy looking for Cipher during the events of AC4 on a border with ISAF
>The Gauntlet mission, even though it isn't canon Mobius 1 shows up out of all characters
>In AC0 you shoot down Erich Klinsmann, callsign Reiher he's the only pilot that has no information about him it's Y13's former identity
Reminder that Ace Combat 6 is just as good as Ace Combat 4, 5, and Zero in every way.
What >>283557858 said. 6 Was good but the story was all over the place and not as engaging as the other three games. It was a really fun game though.
Is there pictures of fem pixy?
Fuck, why did I read that as fempixy?
If you think Ace Combat 5 had a better story you haven't fairly judged it.
<< Opinions incoming. >>
4 > Zero > 5 = 6
All 4 games are pretty amazing though.
I'd go with 5 as the best one storywise still, perhaps I just like the characters more or because we got to see so many nice CGI cutscenes. Either way to me 5 felt more like a journey than the others.
But they're all damn close together.
Fuck off Bishop, noone invited you.
While the dance with the angels was corny
(and the characters were pretty forgetttable)
it was a good game, the missions were pretty fun and straight forward, loved the system where you can order your forces to blow the crap out of anything, you just press the D-pad up and you see a bunch of missiles pass by to kill your targets. Really satisfying.
Its my second favorite AC game (below 5). The graphics and the game play felt great. I loved those named enemy ace pilots that would be scattered around the map and when you killed them you got their color scheme and a bio about them. Add some flavor to a game that was really lacking story wise.
>unleashing drive with the nocturne and using allied command at the same time
>be 10 year old me
>kinda sad but in a good way
>move on to 5
>about as upbeat as war can be
>get to this point
>cry like a bitch
>pause the game
>get mad as fuck
>shoot down every single fighter in the area
