A less good SMT 3. In my opinion, the persona games are better. The characters in that game are bland as hell, but the game plays pretty much like any SMT game. If you like turn based, you'll like that game.

It's good. Like a grimdark Pokemon. Interesting battle mechanics. Decent graphics, good music.

It starts out pretty hard, especially if you're unfamiliar with SMT's battle mechanics, but after a while it gets pretty easy. The hardest part is navigating Tokyo, so don't feel ashamed to look up a map.

Story is so-so. There's 4 endings so lots of replay value.

I can get into any Pokemon-esque experience, has anyone here played persona q that might be able to shed some light onto how that plays and whether or not I should dig deeper into the persona series on my psp

After having played other (older) entries in the series, SMTIV isn't the best, but it's definitely shat on to an unnecessary degree by /v/. It's a perfectly respectable and imaginative RPG with plenty of interesting shit going on, from both a gameplay and story perspective. Plus the soundtrack is kickass. The only really noteworthy negative I can come up for it is that some of the monster designs created for this game suck ass.

Characters are eh. Music is pretty banging at times.

Yes you should get more into Persona on the PSP
More specifically, a PSP emulator. PSP load times + long special attacks make speed-up important in the earlier PSP personas

The first part of the game is going to kick your ass, but once you get access to a wider variety of skills it will become easier.

Just remember the most important rules of SMT:

>Abuse enemy weaknesses

In other words, you're in for a lot of fun, especially if you enjoy mythology.

Good SMT game that's better enjoyed after experiencing 1/2/SJ because of fan service.

Has a fucking amazing OST, and really good atmosphere and world building.

Story is okay and characters are generic SMT characters that sometimes go a bit too retarded, but otherwise it's enjoyable.

Game goes back to law vs chaos which I honestly prefer over the system used in nocturne.

Still a decent introduction to the series, and you might not enjoy it as much if played directly after nocturne.

Build straight Dex or Straight Mag. I'm more fond of the Mag route but Dex does literally everything. Ignore Str and make sure to sub stat Agi or Luck.

Fusing is crazy weird if you're unused to SMT, but SMTIV makes it much easier. Soundtrack is pretty good, story is average and well built but the characters are one-dimensional and hurt the story a lot.

A very traditional style dungeon crawl with some pokemon mechanics. It starts out stupid hard (shit can one shot you), but once you get going it's a decent challenge. Music is awesome, and setting interesting. Talking to demons can be pretty funny sometimes.

Adding on to this, you could even make a pure Luck build viable if you're feeling bold.

It's actually a lot of fun because with high Luck you can easily abuse the Hama and Mudo spells for insta-kills. Oh, and you'll have an easy time with demon negotiation too.

I love the mainline SMT games but can't really enjoy P3/4.
Just play the game as much as you like, and if you're hankering for more and if you feel like not devouring your friends try out Persona; otherwise there's a load of previous SMT games for you to enjoy.

SMT:IV was actually my introduction to the series. It was fun and never too difficult. The only part that was actually challenging were the first few missions. Story is alright. It's not fantastic but it's not totally boring. The OST and gameplay though is worth the price alone.
