Just reminding you that Valve haven't made any games lately, because they are wasting time making shitty Linux distro and hats.
>>
We know. Nobody is pleased with it.
They really ran out of ideas, it seems.
>>
I agree that it sucks it takes valve a decade to do anything, but why is moving away from windows for video games a bad thing in any way?

>great all around

literally why would I cripple my pc to be more like a console?
>>
>>277427548
It's not a bad move, but I would prefer them to, you know, focus on games instead of trying to start fights with MS or turn steam more and more into Facebook for gamers.

Too busy killing the PC market by locking games in an external program that is borderline malware.

why dont they make an linux that can run the all windows exe

This has been possible for a long time, It just doesn't run them nearly as well in most cases.

It's a bad thing in every way. Windows is already a thousand times superior so why waste ANY time and resources on trying to improve Linux?
>>
>>277427791
They're doing the exact opposite: saving vidya by ditching Windows and Microsoft in general.

All these haters

> running the biggest digital distribution platform in the world
> creating an operating system
> creating steamboxes
> leaks confirm they are working on games as well

I don't get the 'Valve are lazy meme'. That's an insane amount of stuff to be doing considering they have a staff of like 300 people. Most companies would have more staff than that for just one of those things on the list by itself.

>Not wanting a back up option in case Microsoft goes full retard

It's not necessarily likely, but the damage to PC gaming could be immense if Microsoft decides to go for a walled garden approach at some point in the future. I applaud Valve for SteamOS, it really can't hurt to have a contingency plan.
>>
>>277428313
Mobile devices are the bigest part of gaming and noone wants Microsoft there.
Checkmate microshill.
>>
Stop complaining. Hats are good. I can't wait to buy cosmetics for my SteamOS and make all the poorfags jealous.
>>
>>277428556
MS has gone full retard multiple times and nobody cares. People just continue to use the non-retard version, which forces MS to go back on their retardation.

Valve made HL1. Other people made Counter-Strike, Team Fortress, everything. They just bought those people. Portal? They bought the team that made Narbacular Drop. Portal 2? They bought the team that made Tag: The Power of Paint. HL2 was their only real game after that, lord knows what other purchased teams were involved. They probably just got bored of making original games after Episode 2.

They aren't a videogame company, they're a videogame aggregator.

I think it has more to do with API's.
DirectX is cancer due to its distribution method. If it was often updated without changing system it wouldn't hurt but when most users used 9.0c for years even though there already was 10 and 11 out, and though they've had hardware that supported them - there is something wrong with the distribution method.
If they'd opt for linux instead, DX would be much less popular in favour of OpenGL and similar.
>>277430273
>No viruses,
There are some.
Of course they're not as common as windows-affecting ones but if it was linux that has majority of marketshare when it comes to OS - you'd see them everywhere.
Pretty much the same applies to OSX.

maybe they would have a better chance with some kind of autistic partnership with google for actually getting an OS of their own to succeed
but really, aint shit happening without directX
its possible to make it work on linux. even the legality of it can be circumvented (anonymous 3rd party app all the "cool kidz" are installing)

but this is just unrealistic
notice how consoles run off radeon hardware
notice how many great titles are now multiplat
notice how its easier to port console plats over to directX, but also notice how directX can run on consoles too if someone really wanted to port windows over to them
notice how directX is much more entrenched within the developmental environment and has much more support and software framworks to work around with (also is more robust capability and efficiency)

swear to god the fat man is smoking crack on this one
theres just no possible way this linux project of theirs is something even serious
it's gotta be some low level project a couple of neckbeards at valve are working on with their spare time or something.. its not something complicated to do
i'm literally grasping at any logical straw i can at this moment, i.. i simple cant come to terms with how anyone could possibly take linux seriously

>Linux takes multiple more steps for everything you want to do

>and has fucking garbage compatibility
Runs on a wider range of hardware compared to Windows. Intel has full open source drivers for their hardware (including GPUs) while AMD and nVidia both have official drivers for their GPUs.

>There's hardly a program out there that isn't made for Windows
The majority of worthwhile programs were made with Unices in mind, even though they easily run on Windows (the wonders of portability).

>I can run it with 2 clicks at most.
Windows installers take a lot more than two clicks.

For some companies, success breeds stagnation. Just look at nintendo during the wii years. They were the biggest they've ever been and printing money hand over fist, but I'd argue we saw less quality games from them compared to the gamecube years, and they weren't nearly as big. IMO it's because they were actually fighting to get every last customer and were pulling out all the stops. But when they were successful, they didn't need to give a shit

Same with valve. They were always quality over quantity of games, but they actually made games. Even kept making them for a couple of years even after steam became huge. But no longer. And I doubt they'll ever bother again, really.
