ITT you post yfw you discovered something amazing or obscure about a game; or even something apparently obvious that you missed.

So, MGS thread

that's undeniably cool.

Its weird how MGS can be so in your face at times but also really subtle details.

it's a 2001 game, plus the guard flinches if you do that. Get drugs for your autism.
>>
In Ground Zeroes, CQC slamming a guard 15-20 causes them to crawl away in agony and then die.

In MGS 2, smoking the cigarettes for too long will cause Raiden to hack and wheeze, making stealth harder.

In MGS 3, blowing up ammo storages causes guards to shoot less and run at you and try to knife you.

In MGS 4, after dying and calling Rose, Snake will talk about how he keeps having these dreams of him dying.

In MGS 4, shaking your Dualshock while calling Rose will have her breasts bounce. This also lowers your stress level.

You can return to Paul after visiting the NSF hideout but before sending the warning message, and there will be a different conversation. JC will say that he saw the evidence but isn't convinced that UNATCO are the badguys. Despite JC talking about carrying out his mission as ordered, you can't move on until you send the message.

Replay it earlier this year, read up on "secrets"
those pin ups in lockers? if you hide in the locker and close in on the posters you hear a suction sound
If you photograph them and send them to otacon at the end of the tanker segment he gets more and more emberassed.
Kojima did all this to screw majorly with those pervy teenagers.
Guess I wasn´t a pervy teenager.

I don't think so. But one thing related to that scene was changed in the GOTY edition. Paul mentions that the evidence against UNATCO is sitting on an endtable. In the original release that's where it is, but in the GOTY version it's moved to on top of one of the server towers. It's so well hidden now that most players never find it.

I'd say MGS3 has the most TECHNOLOGY moments of any game. Here's what I personally discovered
>You can shoot the "!" above their heads to stun them temporarily
>Bees shot down can distract the guards
>A rope bridge with varying levels of stability, where guards can fall off of it when you cut all the ropes
>Throw food, grenades and other items into Gavial mouths
>Throw snakes, poison animals, and other things at guards to kill/distract
>Blow up Food supply areas to starve the guards in the area and surroundings, allow you to toss poison food at them and they can eat it
>Blow up the helicopter in the early part of the game to have no helicopter to deal with later
>In NG+, if you twirl the SAA in front of Ocelot, he'll have a twirl competition
>If you stand with the SAA in hand near the edge of the divide, Ocelot will have a duel with you
>You can shoot the End early in the game, and will fight an Ocelot unit instead
>You can "wait" 2 weeks (via changing the internal clock) while fighting the end to have him die of old age
>If you kill the parrot, the end will fire more rigorously at you
>If you release the parrot, the parrot will fly to wherever the End is located
>While injured on the riverbank, if you go into 3rd person mode, you can see the Sorrow's body by adjusting the camera
>Wearing the Croc cap and peeking around the corner causes guards to freak out
>If you talk to Para Medic about the Glow mushroom and eat it, it will charge your battery up, and calling back concerns the whole team.
>If you twirl snake around in survival viewer, it'll cause him to puke, curing food poisoning.
>If you eat a certain animal more and more, it'll give you more stamina over time

>By tossing poisoned food around, you can cause the Fear to eat it and become sick
>If you toss honeycomb during the Pain fight, the bees will "attatch" to it, causing it to become super healthy
>During Volgin's fight, if you toss a treefrog he will try to kill it (japanese folklore). If you toss a glow cap mushroom, lightning will temporarily become drawn to it. If you wear the Raikov mask, he will become distracted
>Each of the bosses barring "The Boss" will be fooled only once by the Fake Death Pill
>If you kill a guard in the mountains, and kill the bird after he's feasted on the body, you'll find greater stamina in the bird plus the guard will appear in the river section crying out about being eaten by you.
>During the prison section, if you save and come back to the game, you'll be given a minigame to play (I don't believe this works on the HD release)
>You can check Eva's medical history in the survival viewer, plus shake her boobs around
> Every person you ever killed in the game will appear in the river section
> If you leave in the transmitter attatched to Snake, he'll have a humorous cutscene involving Eva at the Waterfall
>After Snake loses his eye, First person mode is adjusted slightly
>If you don't eat enough, your stomach growls, giving you away to guards.
>The rain and water makes you catch a cold and causes your stamina to drop quicker
>Interrogating Eva gives you the Konami Code
>Tranquilizing Eva causes her to dream of her dog, the boss and snake
>Blowing up a weapons shack forces guards to use their knives against you, and be more conservative with firing.
>Dick Punches and Dick Shots are instant knockouts
>Raikov has the same animations as Raiden, right down to the combat style
There is more, but I can't remember

At mgs3, you can kill a guard and then wait for the vultures to feed on him. If you kill and eat that vulture, the soldier appears later at the sorrow fight, with the culture, calling on you for eating him.

Also you can skip the sorrow fight just drowning on the river.

You can see the medical story of EVA when you are escorting her, and shows she operated her boobs.

in Dragons Dogma, theres a questline where the duke needs a magic ring taken back from a wizard. the ring makes you cast spells twice as fast, but you give it to the duke when the quest is over. he then goes to his treasury and unlocks a chest with the ring and gives you the cloak inside. if you create a forgery of the ring and give him that, you get to keep the spell boost, but the duke is incapable of opening the chest and thinks that the ring must have lost its magic

It's OK. It's the most censored version of them all (no blood, altered crest symbols, etc), some of the re-designs in lighting and such kinda kill the mood, and it's also kinda casualized, but it's also the only version that runs at 30fps and it has the quick-switch for equipment - which reduces the need to pause the game.

if you've never played OoT before, it's certainly an OK way to do so - though you could just emulate the N64 original for free.

Say your character uses 30 round magazines to feed his M4A1. If you have a round chambered and then insert a full 30 round mag you have 30+1 rounds to fire before you're empty. The "X" just symbolizes whatever amount of rounds you have in your magazines. COD doesn't do that, R6 Raven Shield (for example) does.

MGS has good story and the cutscenes are actually very entertaining and well-directed barring a few hollywood cliches Koji has a boner for. Plus you can skip the cutscenes and have a 100% pure unscripted gameplay experience so in that regard MGS has less cutscenes than most games nowadays when you consider the awful way games like The Last of Us or Bioshock Infinite integrate cutscenes directly into their gameplay and make you go through them every time.

Didn't you want young Solid Snake to have hot Alaskan sex with Meryl?

Inb4 can love bloom on a battlefield?

Here's something only I know about a game only I played.

In Cyber-Cop (Corporation in Europe) on the Genesis, you normally need to use a hacking device to find the code to each door. However, this one door can't be hacked. What you're supposed to do is find a holotape that has the code on it, but if you started the game without buying a hologram reader than you can't use the tape.
I found another way to learn the code. While messing around with the keypad I happened to notice that a little yellow light on it blinks when certain numbers are pressed. After trying it on another door I knew the hacked code for, I found out that the light blinks whenever you press a number that is a part of the code. Once you know all the numbers it's just a matter of putting them in sequence.
This works for every door, which means it's possible to beat the game without either the hologram reader or hacking device and not need any prior knowledge of the correct codes.

It's done.
Those hours are gone and I will never have them back.
Now please help me, I do not wish to buy a collection or dig up an ancient japanese computer to forget this experience.

Reminds me of Rambo when I first played it years ago.

I was too dumb to use the cigar, so I figured this out on my first playthrough

Not technology, but an easter egg I haven't seen anyone mention yet

>MGS3
>Jail cell after you get tortured
>Throw food outside of your jail cell and Johnny will eat it
>Do it three times and it'll trigger a cutscene where Big Boss and Johnny talk about the Cold War
>Johnny will give you back your knockout gas cigarettes

In the Dishonored DLCs, you got a teleportation spell that stopped time when you were still. It would also stop time if you jumped straight up, but only at the apogee of the jump.

Basic physics, but I thought it was a nice touch.

No, the guard throws food for you inside the cell and you have to throw it back.

Johnny will keep throwing food at you every so often as long as you stay in the cell. You only have to wait once anyway, just throw the first food item he gives you, kill the rat in the cell and throw it, then wait once for the second food item and throw it.

In Morgenholt's case it would be obvious he'd been tortured though.

He was crispy from electrocution and who knows what else those dirty insurgents did to him?

Why does Kojima hate Snake so?
Did he just get sick of making games about him?
