But you should use who you like, it's not unreasonably hard, especially if you're used to Etrian Odyssey

Too much gameplay for Persona fans.

Hard seems like the best difficulty choice as it poses some challenge without making you resort to excessive tedious grinding. Plus, the gameover when the MC dies system just pisses me off in every game I've ever played that has it.
As a fan of EO, SMT and Persona, I'm having a lot of fun so far.

So, I have been spoiled rotten on Persona 3 and 4, but hasn't really played the games (missed my chance by not knowing back on the PS2 era and now my console is busted.) and was thinking in getting this game as a starting point since I have a 3DS.

I only know about the story and characters so I have zero knowledge of how both Persona and EO's gameplay styles even work.

For a newcomer like me, is this game too unforgiving? Does it explain its mechanics nicely? Or is it more suited for people who has at least played either EO or Persona at least once?

I was thinking it was just first person Persona ala P1. I didn't even know the EO people were behind it until I started googling because I didn't really know anything about this game until it was released.

I find the classes, set up, monsters, map layout, making my own maps, overall story and world, and artwork all not my preference in EO. It doesn't feel or play like the mainline SMT games to me at all. There's just something I enjoy with SMT that I don't in EO despite both being FPRPGs. I feel the same way about the Wizardry series and early M&M games in that they are completely different to me.

Playing Risky and i've only died once because if MC dies it's a game over. Why is this game easy? I thought it would be more difficult, started on hard and restarted on risky because even then it was too easy. I'm surprised it's not difficult, I thought that EO games are supposed to be known for their difficulty, where in this game, it's not that difficult, sure risky is slow, but other than that, it's easy. I'm a bit disappointed. Persona 3: FES was tougher than this game.

What level should I be that I will be able to handle FOEs comfortably?

My team is MC, Shinji, Mitsuru, Aigis and Zant.

Had junpei instead of mitsuru but decided he wasn't bringing much to the table, fusion blast is cool but its damage wasn't anything special.
