Newfriend to Icewind Dale II here.
How the fuck do these damage stats work here?
I keep finding 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d8 +1 stuff but don't know exactly what it means.
Also general advices are super welcome.
And why is there a Profficiency -4 on some of my party characters when they have the skill to wear that type of weaponry.
what does the 97 in str score mean?

Some stupid bullshit. Here's a chart.

Every class in the game that can't naturally get 19 points in strength will have a seperate roll on strength. So if you reroll the character it rolls a number between 1 and 100 and the closer you get to 19 the more benefits you have. The difference between a character that rolls 18/01 and 18/99 is huge, it's not just small minmaxing. The dream is hitting 18/00 which essentially means you hit the straight 100 and your character simulated a roll that gets him to 19.
OP got a fucking luckyass roll. He has almost maxed out 18 points in every stat and then also hit a 97 on his seperate strength roll.

1d4=1-4dmg
+ weapons are enchanted. Pretty sure some enemies are immune to nonmagical dmg so they're good to keep around.
I don't know about the proficiency thing since i havn't played ID in a decade but maybe some guys are held back by having a shield or heavier armor than they are proficient with.

also enchanted weapons give a bonus to hit aswell as a damage bonus.
