It’s a landmark day for Shantae Fans! We've got so much stuff to share we're fit to burst! First off, let's look at a few more denizens of Sequin Land!

It's really exciting for us to see classic characters that have been around since the Gameboy Color, re-imagined in a whole new way! These are all work in progress images and therefore are subject to change. We can't wait to see them all in action!

Speaking of action, remember the Archer enemy design some of you voted on? Well now she’s been animated and is ready to be put in the game, tested, then on to cleanup and coloring. Have a look for yourself!

For those not familiar with the process of “traditional” character animation, it goes like this: We create a character design, rough out the main (or key) poses needed for a particular action, and then add rough inbetween frames until the timing is what we’re looking for and the movement is nice and smooth. In the case of 2D gaming, we also remove any frames that would delay responsiveness, which is why you won’t see our hero characters anticipating before they jump.

We choose to abandon some classic animation rules in favor of better gameplay...for us, gameplay always comes first! We use this approach with hand drawn animation because once it’s done, there’s no going back! Wish our animation team luck...they’ve got several thousand drawings ahead of them. Then clean up. Then color. Then they’re done (phew!). Well, after any revisions. And visual effects and shadows. And then possibly some more cuts to improve gameplay slightly. Remember kids! Throwing away your hard work for the benefit of the audience is a badge of honor!!
