What's the most disappointing video game you've ever played?
Fallout New Vegas- It was better than F3 in many ways, but its rushed development time really shows. Mods and some great DLC later made it a decent package though.
Dragon age 2- Same thing as above. Though no mods or DLC that bandage it. Just pretend its an expansion pack or DLC spin off and its tolerable.
Skyrim- I dont hate it, I enjoyed it well enough. Just wasn't as good as I thought it would be
Final Fantasy XI.
For 2 weeks.
6 years after release.
I shouldn't have waited.
Super Monday night combat
>there are people that still trust Uber after that trainwreck
Guild Wars 2
Yeah, GW2 was pure shit. I knew it from the start that their shitty promises will backfire, but I was stupid enough to buy the game at retail to check. It came true and since I bought at retail, I couldn't get a refund.
>Bioshock love starts wearing off halfway through Infinite.
>Realize I'm playing a shitty CoD-wannabe FPS with every possible facet of the game significantly worse than the previous entries.
>tfw the box sits there to remind you of not trsuting the hype
I really feel like this game and setting of techno viking gods really had potential
But it was when an achievement popped up for killing 500 of one type of enemy, and that type only appeared on one level, I realized something had gone horribly wrong
This was the game that made me a jaded piece of shit and woke me up to the shitheap the games industry had turned into. I wanted the continuation of my favourite childhood games, and instead I got this half bake piece of motherfucking garbage
Resident Evil 5. I went to a midnight launch. I fucking loves Resident Evil, took time off of work to play it. What a fucking let down.
Hexen 2, especially coming off how great the first game was.
Probably Bioshock: Infinite. I bought the Ultimate Songbird Edition, preordered it on steam as well and bought the season pass because I was so 100% sure that it would be yet another great Bioshock game with a beautiful new setting.
Anyone who doesn't say 'Brink' doesn't know true crushing disappointment
I will never know the feel of hype again
Company of Heroes 2
I was so hyped for it ever since I heard about it. I even preordered it on steam to get all the cool bonuses. You can't even begin to imagine my disappointment when they cancelled all the important bonuses
>Sorry we completely fucked over your preorder. Here's some shitty tf2 hats in recompense
>Infamous second son
I wasn't happy
This. I bought it on my birthday too.
Spore maybe, but with half life 2 and dark souls 2 you can't say it was soulcrushingly disappointing like the garbage Brink was. The playerbase was dead within a week
I don't really get hyped about games any more.
Pokemon Snap. My friend hyped it too much for me. I got it a few days after release and played it as soon as I got home. I played it for 4 hours straight until I finished the game. Unless you want to try and get perfect shots of all the pokemon, the is absolutely zero replayability.
>Half life 2
>Playing the game 10 years after it came out, with the Internets retarded overhyping of the game
You mean it wasn't?
Levels, enemies and weapons were cut, Gravity Gun was gimped, most gameplay ideas were never given any development and were just throw in in their basic forms.
Dark Souls, after playing Demons, It was just so shit.
When I found the Greataxe in the Depths for the first time, I turned the game off, gave it to my nephew, and went back home and played Demons.
I still have never finished DaS
Not for me anon not for me....
what makes me the most depressed is how hype I was for the game even during the first couple of hours of playing it. Had a fucking blast up until the first dragon fight where I shortly realized that I had already played the entire game and quickly got bored and just stopped playing. I still dont know how the game ends but from what Ive heard its shit
I was so fucking jaded already during it's release i didn't even bother.
i just let my friend who buy's everything play it and tell me how utterly shit it was.
I expected nothing less
there is one brief moment of hope that the game will become good when you are going through Blackreach but other than that the main story is completely forgettable after the first wyvern fight
Good meme, really dank. I'm fucking tripping memes right now dude. That is some mad fucking Dro, got any more broheim? I never thought I'd get memed on this hard on /v/:videogames. This is the delicate, yet robust quality of meme I'd expect from our friends at [esfoures]:Patrick Bateman.
You're the greatest meme maestro of your'e time, truly inspirational, I bet every single instance in you're life where their are numbers is a time of great repeating integers. When you walk down the sidewalk, you don't skip the cracks, you step on two cracks at the same time, a double, if you will. I never expected such a sublime, exquisite meme, I am truly thankful for the bounty you've gifted me with, thank you.
Truly, thank you.
>You will never play this version of Bioshock: Infinite
>The game was delayed 3 times and we still got shit
Was more of a delayed disappointment, but definitely Tribes Ascend.
Especially all the fun I had with /v/ in it, I never thought a game developer could ruin something so goddamned badly so quickly.
Here's another question
Are there any games you never played simply because they were received so poorly?
Other M and DNF for me.
Dark Souls 2
The most disappointing experience in the history of video games. I was almost certain it was going to be the best game of all time when I saw the April 2013 footage. Fuck me, just fuck me.
Prototype 2. It may not have been the biggest disappointment, but it was one of the most crushing to me. Prototype 1, while flawed, had some really great gameplay and even the story seemed like it set up for some serious shit to go down in 2 with Pariah. But instead we get James Heller fighting evil Alex Mercer with an oversimplified upgrade system and a lack of Musclemass or Armor, 2 of the better parts of the last game. That and the motivation behind Mercer's evilness was pants on head retarded
I have to say this as well for me.
I loved the SHIT out of Dead Space, I don't know why I just enjoyed it immensely and this game just killed everything about the series.
In recent memory the most DISAPPOINTING games where I went in expecting NOTHING and was still let down are a follows:
-Counter Strike: Global Offensive
As all four of those games come from long lasting franchises which are staples of my video gaming childhood and young-adulthood, it was very very hard for me to see each and everyone become a generic nickel-and-dime-you and dumb-this-the-fuck-down shitfest.
I don't think you can call this a game though
Pretty much this. I was so hyped for Teraaria but in space, but holy shit looking at it now it's just so disappointing seeing how much time and money was sunk into making that game.
Dark Souls 2. It's my own fault for hyping it up like I did. Was hoping the Japanese would finally sort out their netcode and provide servers. Instead, received Havel wizards mechanic.
It was a good game no doubt, especially when I got it on pc later with mods but it was so disappointing and underwhelming after the masterpiece that is Fallout 3. I hope Obsdian never taints the fallout name again.
This so hard.
DA was like KOTOR for me, a awesome RPG with a ton of different options and paths that just worked so well. The DLC was kind of hit or miss, but it was gearing up for something awesome. It was also clear that they were working on this some time before the EA deal.
...Then EA happened and forced Bioware to make a watered down ME clone with extremely rushed graphics, copy and paste rooms so bad that it looks like a fan mod of the first game, and one of the most boring follow ups to a game I have ever seen.
I even ignored most people's suggestions and bought it when it was on sale a year or so after launch. Jesus Christ, that was a gigantic mistake.
I went in expecting some MH tier action and hunting.
What I got instead was a boring story, a bland environment and an underwhelming as hell combat system.
>holy shit this is amazing
>still have 3000 hours and counting, play on and off in a series of three month binges
Probably one of my best purchases, really. Funny how people say SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT just because of the lack of endgame and the post-launch dev incompetence.
The game itself is fantastic as an MMO.
Sleeping Dogs. It's a great game, but it wasn't fulfilling as GTA.
>Pistol is no longer the skill-defining weapon it used to be
>Dogshit dudebro KILLAMANJARO achievements
>Newer maps were claustrophobic and not as well made as the older maps
>Floaty player controller didn't feel as solid as the older one.
>Destructible vehicles were great on paper, but really unfun in execution.
>Playing as an elite didn't add anything to the game.
>Hijacking vehicles was a terrible idea and made vehicles feel worthless in many cases.
>The single-player was a cliffhanger sequel bait bullshit.
Gone Home and Simcity 2013.
Expecting that both of these would somehow move thier respective genres forward. I was tard.
You are all wrong, this is objectively the correct answer.
I thought 4 was pulling too hard on nostalgia for the older games
Maybe I'm just a horrible person, but I didn't shed tears through 4. It was pretty sad, but it wasn't enough to break the dam for me.
>implying this wasn't the biggest letdown of all-time to fighter fans
>What I expected:
Top-tier survival horror game - endlessly mindfucky, scary in spades.
>What I got
Time travel hack n' slash with some cool fourth wall breaks.
I don't like how it looks and I find the whole thing to just be boring. When I got it I bought the twin so I had 2 as well. Heard that was even better so once I couldn't take anymore of 1, I tried 2. I could see why people who liked Uncharted would say 2 was better but I find the whole thing boring and just not for me.
>Game actively punishes you for engaging in combat
Who thought the stupid stickers = attacks idea was okay?
Metroid Other M
Devil May Cry 2
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil Operation Racoon City or whatever it was named
Metal Gear Solid 4
MGS Peace Walker
Animal Crossing DS
Civilization V (vanilla, the expantions are awesome as fuck)
The Force Unleashed
The Last Story
New Little King Story
I've been rused so many times that I still wonder how I manage to get excited for a new game
mgs4 isn't as bad as some people make it out to be
It had a lot of shit, yes, lke dreblin, limited weapon/items, the whole act 3, mission briefings and side stories (meryl love story/naomi being a whore/nanomachines, son)
But the whole Gameplay, Online mutliplayer, Ending (if you ignore the fucking big boss bullshit), Metal Gear Rex and Final Battle, were some of the best moments in the whole MGS series
>But the whole Gameplay, Online mutliplayer, Ending (if you ignore the fucking big boss bullshit), Metal Gear Rex and Final Battle, were some of the best moments in the whole MGS series
Yes indeed they were, but again, those things are overshadowed by the bad things in the game
It wasn't a bad game or anything, but playing it is the easiest way to realize why you're alone in all the other metroid games.
Without the aspect of constant isolation, the game is just "good," not "great."
I just wanted grand campaigns with massive armies against some decent AI.
The flags were too big.
I couldn't tell which unit was which.
There was so much brown and red.
I just wanted...
To be an emperor.
I should clarify, some of those games are actually good and ended up enjoying them, just that they couldn't live to my expectations.
Okamiden is a great example, is actually a neat title, but the damn game rehashed too much from Okami
Smash 4 kind of. Just picked it up yesterday. What the fuck did they do to the combat? Regular attacks don't flow together like past games. The only character that attacks seem to flow is Little Mac.
I was gonna sack Rome.
Then Go on and sack Sparta.
Then show those desert dwellers the fury of the Northmen
There are actually parts of the game that are great, Skytown, the pirate homeworld and the valhalla are good examples, but yeah, MP3 is the weakest entry, it doesn't mean that the game isn't good though
it came out on my birthday I was going to spend the entire day playing it
Ugh that game could have easily been a goty if they didn't fuck up so badly. It wa incredibly fun and rewarding, but somehow they made it worse to the point I wasn't sure of they purposely killed it or not. Fuck smite
I know, but somehow it sounds much worse voice acted than when just read in text.
eh, ill agree with you there. a lot of the powers were borrowed from okami, but the introduction of partners also really kicked it up a notch as well, allowing for more stuff to be done.
of course, it did kind of fall into that whole zelda type nonsense where they're useful for one small portion for the game, and useless the rest, but it was still really neat
and cmon, that end was pretty rad.
i think if they waited a couple years for it to be made on the 3ds it would have been far more successful, as more people would get to know about the game and it'd be a good launch title for the new hardware.
oh well, here's to hoping for the future at least.
As a teenager, that crushed me and I didn't buy vidya for years after that.
the gameplay was there the whole time, the ending was one of the most powerful of all the series with the whole boss fight and snake had a hard life (except you know, that part where big boss turned out to be alive, that fucker)
I remember that I didn't had the money to buy it the first day 1, then the users reviews started to come out, then /v/ started bitching about how awful it was.
Then I got the money and realized that they were right, that the AI was worse than anything I've ver seen in the series, that how awful it was en every aspect
>the gameplay was there the whole time
Before Act 3 you mean, then the game takes you out to watch a hour long cutscene a little too much.
And I still can't believe how there are people who defends the Big Boss shit, the final battle was actually rad and I loved how in the end Ocelot dies as himself when he says you are pretty good
But anon, how else would you know her emotions?
I thought to myself how this anon didn't understand the emotions of Samus, and how much the baby Metroid meant to her, emotionally.
the ending and the whole time travel aspect was a actually really nice to me, but in the end it just felt like a rehash of Okami instead of a sequel, I agree that they should have waited for the 3DS, or they should have made a full fledge wii title.
At least it was miles better than the Zelda DS games, man those were shit in every aspect
It still hurts when I image what it could had been.
I'm sorry anon, please understand.
Even though I had voiced apology, I was insincere, this anon felt emotionally distant, how could I make them understand?
Gen 7 slowly turned me from an excited young gamer into a jaded, betrayed realist
who still holds out a glimmer of hope for this new gen 8
Mass Effect? Turned to shit after the first game
Assassin's Creed? Story jumped off a cliff in 2, everything else jumped off a cliff in Brotherhood
Capcom? In absolute shambles
Even my beloved obscure Japanese series like Ace Combat, Armored Core, and Front Mission all irredeemably turned to garbage (at least we got one good Armored Core game out of gen 7,
And let's not even get started on the Lightning saga.
So, your question, OP? I answer - all of them.
Reminder that Levine's hubris tore this game apart.
It was so broken unfinished shit when it came out, it was unplayable. They have patched it non-stop since release and finally after a fucking year, it's playable. Although all my intrest towards it is allready gone.
Really? Strange. Sleeping Dogs is the opposite for me, I expected absolutely nothing from it but I was pleasantly surprised by its amount of charm and how character-driven it was.
Nope. Half the new mechanics don't work and the AI is still crap. You know those seiges where you'd distract the enemy while your ninjas scaled walls in stealth and unlock back gates for a hidden unit ambush? That's gone. All interesting siege mechanics are gone. Every last one is a meatgrinder at a chokepoint. Graphics are shit and absolutely inexcuseable going even from Shogun 2's mediocre visuals. To top it all off, the game is quite clearly just a vehicle for dlc. Like, shamefully so.
Such a fucking amazing concept, and they did it well, but they just fucked up the actual RTS part of the game so badly that it's unplayable.
>Infinites story was great
>more holes than Swiss cheese
ACH Legacy helped dull the pain, but it did not erase it.
That and the writing went down the toilet.
>Hey Shepherd, remember that giant reaper that blew up half the Citadel? Well, everybody thinks it never happened
>WE'RE NOT BAD GUYS!
>spoilers: they're bad guys
>Protheans retconned to be Jamaican lobster people instead of the long-limbed humanoids that they were intended to be in Karshpyn's script
>final boss is that one skeleton from Contra 3
I don't know what to think anymore. At least the characters in ME2 weren't as boring as the ones in ME1, but that's the only improvement I can think of.
>Racism is bad
Can you pick another game that even tried to address racism?
I think they handled it incredibly tactfully.
>Dimension hopping that actually makes no sense
>You thought Andrew Ryan was behind Rapture but it was actually ME! Elizabeth!
Yea, at the end it kinda annoyed me a bit. I think Levine might have run out of steam by that point, so I can at least concede the who rapture thing. The rest was fine though imo
well, permits me to disagrees with you.
like every rpg ever made?
>Ass Creed 3
lol, you said ass, that was teh funneh
>1. Duke Nukem Forever
I waited 13 years for it. Posted regularly on the 3D Realms forums, too
>2. Pokemon Crystal
I was young and naive, so I expected a whole new game. Instead, I just got Pokemon Silver+
We all know why by now.
I think mafiawars or some long forgotten flash game from 2005ish.
I enjoy most videogames OP.
megaman network transmission
i saw it in FUCKING GAMESTOP for $3 and i bought it instantly
i expected a full 3d console battle network
what i got was total bullshit
or more recently, pokemon x and y
game wasn't bad, it was just disappointing and removed a lot of the great features from previous games and it had zero postgame
>like every rpg ever made?
But it was blatant as fuck and the other parts of the game were also bad.
>lol, you said ass, that was teh funneh
I literally just didn't want to type out Assassin's.
>The game itself was good
Only after the v. 2013 patch. It was boring as fuck before, consisting of pressuring oponent until you hit one solid combo and running away for the other 80 seconds while the oponent had no options to screw you over,
The patch made the game decent, but by that time everyone already felt like a dirty whore for buying that shit.
>Dawn of War 2
love/hate. The nid wave missions can get pretty intense, but the rest of the game was so fucking boring.
>Supreme Commander 2
First game and expansion were really cool, how do you fuck up a sequel this bad and not be called Relic.
it was a fun game? If you're thinking about it as a trilogy and a story arc, well, thats your problem.
Writer guy wasn't as good as he thought. Character interaction script, fine, big picture story...nope
I'm pretty sure they just think we're all so fucking stupid we'll just accept whatever it is that game was supposed to be.
we were just supposed to consume it and move on. but no. fuck you bioware
Pretty much this, skyrim basically turned me into a tired gamer from all te disapointment and nv made me want another fallout game with the improvements that nv made but wasnt shit over all
All Call of Duties after MW.
Mortal Kombat 9 and Armageddon.
Thomas Was Alone.
Super Meat Boy.
Super / Paper Mario: Sticker Star.

Loco Roco 2.
LoL and DOTA.
Essentially all MMOs.
It's not easy.
Dragon Age 2, Bravely Default, White Knight Chronicles, and Killzone 3
I'd also say Amnesia, not because it was bad, but because I bought it without playing the demo. It gave me motion sickness really bad after 10 minutes of playing. I was really disappointed I couldn't play it.
>This trailer was made entirely from in-game footage
Hold me /v/
>it's not like they shoved it in your face all the way through the game
Literally the entire plot of the game is people have brutally murdered elves for no real reason other than they are different.
>Racism like in american history
Racism and slavery in the USA is some of the tamest in history.
Oh god, the memories. That game crushed my spirit, it turned me into a grown up man as soon as it was released. I realized there is no hope for the world, everything is always going to be shit, and no, I can never be happy.
>Animal Crossing: New Leaf
I played the shit out of Wild World in middle school, and I'd thought it was long enough since I'd played AC that it'd feel fresh again. It ended up feeling monotonous after ~10 hours.
I really don't like that reclassing/pair up are both available and encouraged. The story also was a letdown. I was hoping for it to escalate after Ch. 13, but it dropped the ball instead.
Guild Wars 2.
Still a decent MMO. I'd rate it higher than FFXIV and Archeage on any day, but it still falls short of its predecessor.
They threw out the lore and the brilliant gameplay for nothing special, and that kills me.
Mine was Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Played like shit. Music was shit. Levels were shit. None of the magic of the genesis trifecta. Sega just needs make a 16 bit sonic again. Retro has been in for fucking ever why haven't they realized this.
Reach's story was pretty good. I absolutely the art style. Elites and Spartans played and looked totally different from each other.
Other than that though the gameplay did suck. A lot. I think blook ruined it. Also it was way too slow and I didn't like the direction which armor abilities took the game.
Armor abilities+sprinting+reticle bloom=bad fucking time
>All those people saying Bioshock Infinite was their biggest disappointment
Really? You thought it was going to be good after all the bullshit "We want the CoD audience" focus testing? I can't feel sorry for you.
At least the studio bit the dust, so there's something to be happy about.
Thread should have ended here. Spore is objectively the most dissappointing game of all time when you compare the original plans to the final product.
Fable is a runner-up for that classic Molyneux fuckery. Fable is saved by being a great game in it's own right, albeit one that is very different than originally planned and promised. Spore had no such luck.
Dota 2. /v/ wouldn't shut the fuck up about it and surprise surprise, it's just fucking awful.
People who are confused: this is the most DISAPPOINTING GAME of all time, not the worst game of all time. Stop pointing out like
>Mass Effect sequels
>Guild wars sequel
>Ass creed sequels
EVERYBODY knew these games were garbage, as their first installment was garbage. Stop posting these.
Instead, shit like
>Resident Evil 5
THAT'S the shit. That's the shit that belongs in my thread.
>Swiss cheese not being the best cheese
Guild Wars 2. I was so damned excited to make a Charr. Thought they were total badasses in GW1, and they were shaping up to be badasses in GW2.
Then I learn that they are just a little side thing that is mostly forgotten as far as the story goes. That all focus ever will be on the mary sue tree people.
And of course, the game is more unbalanced thas it was at release. And after two years, not only have they added no significant content, but haven't even added new skills, save for one heal per class that no one uses.
All the new weapons are cash shop
All the armors are cash shop
All the anything is cash shop
And they added a god damned gear treadmill
Still no end game
PvP is still terrible
Still no guild halls
lol indeed ok I laughed at that myself
>Reach's story was pretty good
Ok by "pretty good" I mean it was passable. 7.5/10. an infinite improvement over the fucking abomination that was halo 4's "story".
Being a part of a team at least tried to inject emotion into the game
Fable 2 and 3
Didn't pay attention to it until it came out and loved the first one
Allowed myself to get hyped for 2 and it was awful
Somehow didn't learn my lesson and let myself be disappointed by 3 (though it was better than 2 I guess). Didn't touch 4 because it looked retarded and trying not to pay attention to the new one
>Literally 2 our less hours of gameplay
>Yoda and Boba Fett are teased in the marketing
>Yoda appears for 10 seconds in a cutscene
>Boba Fett appears for even less
>Story is pants on head retarded and just repeats the same "you might be a clone, who knows, does it matter anyway" idea for said 2 hours
>Game just sort of ends at what should have been an act break
My jimmies had never been more rustled
>did your woman give birth to a black baby
that made me kek anon and yes it's actually a game
A sequel can still be a disappointment even if your opinion is that the original game sucked.
I quite liked ME1 and was looking forward to an improved sequel. Therefore, when I loaded up a shitty third person cover shooter I was quite disappointed.
GW was by all accounts a very good PvP MMO and GW2 was hyped to be even better.
Ass Creed and Fable were console trash and probably don't apply yeah.
I haven't played the first one, but I read some good things about the whole franchise, so I gave it a try. Controls were very clunky. Kind of reminded me of GTA a bit when walking around. Story wasn't particularly engaging. Characters weren't very relatable or likable. Pre-rendered scenes were decent to look at, but actual gameplay wasn't all that impressive visually.
Witcher 3 is supposed to be true "open world", so I may give that a try, but I'm not buying unless it's good.
Skyrim is a great sandbox game like many BGS games before it, but it lacks a good main story like Oblivion. The Dawnguard and Dragonborn DLCs have good main stories though.
If only Oblivion and Skyrim had been swapped, with Oblivion coming out in 2011.
compared to most rpg's witcher 2 is almost perfect. Ofcourse it isn't, but its still decent enough.
I hated the first one myself. I thought it was clunky as fuck and the devs threw in unnecessary T&A which seemed so childish compared to the rest of the game
I really enjoyed the Witcher 1. Everything about it was fantastic, the writing and gameplay I loved. I can not get into Witcher 2 for the life of me. The gameplay turns me off.
Oh dear lord, you are so right about this.
In any case, before CoD became a shitty series, I was actually excited for Modern Warfare 2. I had sincerely enjoyed CoD 4 and wanted more. What I got was a shitty single player and a shitty multi-player with DLC.
>quite liked ME1
>GW was by all accounts a very good PVP MMO
According to who? GW was the MMO for kiddies who's parents wouldn't pay the monthly subscription for WoW. That's the ONLY purpose it served. As a CONTAINMENT game.
Go ahead, lie and tell me you had other reasons beyond being unable to play WoW.
Without equal, Mass Effect 3.
However, I was so disappointed by Earthworm Jim 3D that I returned it to my local game store during the first night of my rental. I paid extra to exchange it for another game, which was godly Harvest Moon 64, even though I'd rented that before.
Skyrim was good, just not as good as oblivion. The dumbed down the character creation/skills WAY to much. The story was ok though, not great, but ok. Ive played through skyrim 3 times and feel like ive done pretty much all there is to do. Ive played through oblivion like 10+ times and i still feel like theres something neat in missed. In skyrim, it just felt like nothing you did mattered. And it pissed me off that you dont actually end up killing aulduin at the end.
While I don't agree with him he is right. If you read Raising the Bar, it shows a shitload of great ideas, locations, and characters that they just sort of cut for one reason or another.
>Cut the Hyra monster shown in early trailer and previews
>Cut a combine "Janitor" who's job was to carry a flamethrower and get rid of bodies
>Combine tanks were originally pilotable
>Originally a lot more variety in the combine
>City 17 was going to have a much more cyberpunk vibe to it
>Manhack arcades where citizens would control manhacks
I think that HL2 is great, and it may just be selection bias for the book, but the section about HL1 seems to point towards the final game being the best of everything they came up with regardless while HL2 had a ton of awesome ideas that never got beyond prototyping.
Playing through DOOM 3 BFG as we speak, and boy, is it assy.
I can't even imagine how monotonous this game was with the original flashlight mechanics. I guess it would basically be like Mace Griffon: Bounty Hunter but that's still likely a far better game.
I replayed 8 again recently and it's a lot better than I remembered it was.
I was in the same boat as you. Hated 8 because I wanted another 7.
Give it another shot now that you're older. Take your time with it like I did and it may not leave such a bad taste in your mouth when you mention it.
I read a lot of people saying the gameplay in 3 was the best. I fucking hated it most of the time.
The only reason I think I got through it was for the character interaction and completing the story.
Wasnt a bad game I convinced myself for years it would be a wow killer.
> awakes in lab not knowing where he is
>told he is a clone, has awesome psychic powers
>discovers he will be abused, uses his powers to blow up lab and escape
>goes on quest to find his purpose
>mfw TFU2 ripped of the fucking pokemon movie
Throw yourself off a bridge you fucking moron.
There's no way in the world you can be both a fan of the series and a fan of ME3, let alone being a fan of ME3 and having an even average IQ.
Mass Effect 3 is a zombie game. Shirtless apes run at you and shoot peas for twenty hours. Nobody uses biotics or tech against you. There is absolutely no gameplay outside the admittedly addictive MP. But what a shame, its mainly addictive because it uses design elements lifted from video lottery terminals so you get hosed for shekels.
There was one redeeming factor though. Costumes, especially since they stayed on in cutscenes. Now you can have an actual account of Admiral Ackbar becoming a Sith Lord and getting killed by edgelord the clone
probably dark souls 2. I rode the hype train so hard I sold my copies of dark souls 1, metal gear rising, red dead redemption and maybe 1 or 2 others. To my dismay everything but the gameplay was worse and I even started to cry a little bit, cause before that I treated the souls games like a gift from the gods and the fact that it seemed way more high budget and they lied about the better level design ( being able to get halfway through the game immediately if you were brave enough ) and the grafix and the torch thing... Now I'm saving up to get all those games back. I still hate myself.
Oh you know what, you'll be even madder after this:
but cry to me more about how gaming is being ruined by games with anything higher than a 1 after it.
>muh exploration/shity upgrade system is gone
nah, you space yourself
nigga, i dont even play mass effect and i know 3 was a shit game.
>Game built around making hard choices that come back to haunt you, in the end none of the choices matter anyway
>Download 1.2 Gigabytes of dat sweet extended cut
>Aww Yiss, gonna fix this shit
>Indoctrination theory confirmed?! Maybe!
>wait, is this any different at all so far?
>Masseffect3.ppt begins to play
What was the fucking point...
At least the Citadel DLC had enough fanservice to bring me slight joy.
Nah its cool. I realize you don't like narrative or characterization. I understand some people just need to down some NyQuil and ignore the crying baby, the bills on the table, and the woman who slams the door every time she goes to "hang out with her friends." I get it. ME3 took the pain away fro you. It kept you out of that moment. You loved the codex, even with the newly added inconsistency. The plot was gold. Bosses were excellent. Even the final boss battle which was cut during the final 48 hours of development. Welcome change! Too videogamey! Just slam on narrative mode and pour yourself some NyQuil buddy.
>you in charge of talking shit about a game you didn't play and not looking like a joke
this weak ass argument that is entirely false. I don't even think me3 haters can think for themselves at this point
For me, Diablo III.
>go to midnight release with brother
>get two copies for me and him
>can't play till 6 am because of that error code
>finally get to play
>think it's great for a little while
>after about a week I realize it's kind of shitty and not nearly as fun as Diablo II
>play on and off for another week or so
>realize the game is even more shitty
>read people's opinions online and they feel the same way, explaining how and why it's bad
>reinforces my feelings
>never play the game again
Also on this, it should be the original Fable you are disappointed in.
I remember the previews of it's development where they promised that you basically lived from start to finish as this amazing character that could effect every part of the game you interacted with.
Running home all excited. New Shadowrun game! OMG! Sequel to glorious SNES and Genesis times. FUCKING SPACE NEEDLES AND RESERVATION WENDIGOS.
Load trailer for new game. WTF.....wtf.......
>I remember the previews of it's development where they promised that you basically lived from start to finish as this amazing character that could effect every part of the game you interacted with
Well that's just Peter Molyneux discussing shit casually over breakfast.
Biggest bullshitter on earth that man
I liked the first two, it was an interesting concept.
The yearly cycle is killing the series though, and the story is getting convoluted and retarded... and that's coming from a Metal Gear fan.
> wyvern fight
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World.
Shitty story, shitty characters, and shitty voice acting aside, the actual game was so devoid of content that it was obvious they didn't come close to finishing it.
Fuuuuuck man. X3:TC ended up being a game that took me so long to get into, but I was really into it when I finally got there. Rebirth looked and sounded great, then I got a shiny looking, broken turd...
They're coming out with a major update, 3.0, in December and it's got a free Xpack for people who've already bought it. I'm likely going to go back and try it, since based on the preview videos they look/sound rather impressive, and I doubt they could really have made the game any worse.
not realizing all the bioshocks where the definition of bait and switch.
>put together an incredible 30 minute to one hour long demo
>hype goes crazy levels
>it's absolute garbage, powers suck, guns suck, bullet sponges everywhere
yeah I never got the reason why people like these games.
The only people who defend ME3 are:
-people who don't know what they are talking about. (girls, children)
-people who like to pretend they are the voice of reason. (girls, children)
-people who are opposed to negativity and criticism. (girls, children)
-bioware employees. (faggots)
This is coming from someone who spent probably $300 on the MP alone.
Crackdown 2. Holy Christ, what a fucking train wreak that was. Not only did it remove the things that made the game feel like a real progression of a superhero/cop, it took out the gang structure and replaced it with shitty zombies. Also, it was the same exact city with some buildings blown up. Fuck that game forever.
> nice b8
> I r8 8/8
>Tfw there's gonna be a new one
>Tfw it's gonna suck most likely
At least I can still play Keys to the City and have a little happiness
The only reason why it's popular is because it's one of the most influential games every made, at least as far as game design is concerned.
Really bumped MODing up and was the first game to use scripted events.
One of the best shooters for the previous gen, IMO.
I played it pretty heavily with a friend of mine on Xbox when it first came out, and there were some tense battles - and lots of possible ways to play (loved being able to TP through floors and whatnot)
are you talking about 2 or 1? Beucase I was talking about 1.
2 just used source engine, which while it was around for quite a while, I can't think of many games who used the engine.
>I can do that too!
The only people who hate ME3 are:
-people who don't know what they are talking about. (girls, children)
-people who like to pretend they are the voice of reason. (girls, children)
-people who enjoy to negativity and criticism. (edgelords, children)
-bioware competitor employees
I mean, damn that was easy, try a little harder next time (though you probably can't judging from the usual intelligence level of me3 haters). I'll ask you for a legit complaint, then you can cry to me about what translates to you not understanding the story, or giving a damn about petty shit like a woman would. It's how it goes every time.
Finally found redemption in Isolation though.
>bioware competitor employees
Bioware employee detected.
Hows' it feel to know your company is doomed?
Hows' it feel to know Mac Walters makes more money than you do?
Basically exactly the same
Germans still over powered
The only real difference is the snow which makes it play awfully and ruins the flow of the game
Optimization was poorly done
I've had this conversation many times before.
You pretend you have but your reading comprehension is obviously quite bad so I won't bother re-typing what's wrong with the game.
There are too many bad memories, too many bungled plot points, too many issues, from the Elcor Homeworld, to Legion, to Samara. There's no point explaining it to you because you have a dog in this race, and I can't give a fuck about your situation.
the problem with /v/, and most other boards, is it's difficult to respond to people without coming across like a stupid cunt. (lack of id)
I'm not the guy you think you're responding to.
Spore was the last game I ever preordered.
Add in GTAIV to the equation and I absolutely will not buy a game before playing it on my rig first unless it's critically acclaimed indie or several years old.
> weaboo shit
So you haven't played it.
Pure hyperbole. It isn't identicle but better to the old game. It's the same shitty argument people have been saying for years.
The game is pretty cool, but not very theify, which is a good thing because the old thief model in 2014 would be fucking horrible.
nigga don't get caught in the crossfire
The old ones were large open levels that you could explore at your own pace, checking every nook and cranny in any order you wanted
The new one has extremely linear levels and a lot of sections where you're locked out of being able to backtrack so if you miss something then it's gone for good. It also has forced chase sequences where the old games never forced you out of stealth.
The also scrapped all the pretty cool story, lore and cinematics.
Get fucked, if you think that you never played the old ones.
>old thief model in 2014 would be fucking horrible.
God forbid we get something refreshing in these trying times. We need instant gratification 20+ xp for headshots in a game about stealing shit without leaving any traces
There's a reason why Doom and Duke Nukem 3D will always remain in the pantheon but countless shooters from the 2000's will never be thought of again.
Not all modern design is actually good.
we haven't seen them for very good reasons.
take large building from old game and compare it to small building in new game. Seems fair
yea, backtracking for medpacks is better than keeping the gameplay flow going.
Srsly, this tired shit arguments are boring. Everything you loved when you were young, you loved because you were a kid. Get over it
I kept expecting 'Lizbeth to use her powers and coordinate with me like she did in the trailers. The story turned to mush as soon as you start dimension hopping, capped off by a truly terrible ending.
Tony Hawk 4.
>Play through as created skater.
>Pick up attribute points and decks.
>Unlock points and decks across all skaters.
From Triple A to one time rental. Never came back to the series after that.
>yea, backtracking for medpacks is better than keeping the gameplay flow going.
Branching paths, secrets, mobility.
Regenerating health punishes you in other area, like the monotonous push forward and constantly having to jump into cover rather than speed through an area taking shots how you want.
You're obviously an idiot though, so no worries.
It sucks cause i also got golden and in golden there's a thing that lets you see the concept ideas and art and they look amazing compared to the vanilla game, but they got scraped because "Mu-Mu-Muh Waifus" and "Muh Yens". Shit sucks yo.
If you honestly think Thief hasn't declined in quality you're fucking retarded
The reboot wasn't just a bad Thief game, it was a bad game in general.
