Everyone has their own take on Samus based on their own tastes and experiences with the franchise so you will never satisfy everyone. But nobody wants her to be emotionless, most would at least agree Samus should be professional, calm under pressure and independent. Samus shouldn't need to be ordered to don her protective gear in a life threatening environment for example. Nor should she have a complete emotional break down in a situation that is threatening her life and her comrades lives.

As long as the character followed those basic notions I think most would be happy with any creative and interesting take on Samus. Sure she may not be what we imagined in each of our heads but as long as she doesn't compromise the obvious basic things about her I think everyone would come to accept it.

I think the best example of Samus's personality is that little moment in Metroid Prime on the frigate where Meta-Ridley flies away

She's underprepared, underpowered and had no idea Ridley would be there, he flies down to Tallon IV, and she shows frustration that he got away from her

I also think the pain and anger she shows at the death of the Hunters in 3 is effective. Her pained grimace at Gandrayda's dying moments. Her angry fist clench when Dark Samus comes to claim Ghor's body. You get to see how it angers and pains her to have to kill her former comrades, but that despite the pain she sets her feelings aside and completes the task at hand by killing them.

Here's the thing. Prime shows how Samus does feel emotion on multiple occasions but also demonstrates how she doesn't let it dominate or distract her. She's a professional and a veteran, it's tough but she can handle it. In Prime 3 she waits until the mission is complete and the Galaxy is safe to go mourn the other Hunters's deaths.

It's faily easy to remain civil and somewhat unemotional around people you don't know or have little contact with.

My counter argument would be we've explored a ton of her choco connections in prime 1/2 as well as super and ZM. Granted it doesn't go very deep into it, nor do we see something like her training and getting the suit but the chozo connection has been touched on several times.

My thoughts on Adam are the connection was done as a way to tie in to fusion. Because there's been nothing timeline wise after fusion. There's some interesting things that can do with her biology and suit changes. Not to mention some problems setup vs the federation due how the story was told in fusion.

It can lead to some interesting ideas if handled properly. And nintendo has admited they didn't handle Other M very well. So we can hope for better next time.
