Like other people have said, the eventhubs tier list (which this picture is based on) is an open poll where people can vote characters up or down freely. There's no expert opinion involved, it's just what a bunch of randoms happen to think.

If you actually play the game some of the inconsistencies in the list are ridiculous. Donkey Kong isn't amazing but he's not literally bottom-of-the-barrel garbage. Certainly not worse than Ganondorf. ROB is certainly not that low and Shulk is probably not that high.

It's not completely inaccurate but people spout every new tier list as gospel anyway.

Say what you will about Smogon, but their tier list for pokemon is interesting in that it's based on hard numbers: how much a particular pokemon is used on teams. This doesn't correspond to a pokemon's strength, but it's a fairly objective way to measure things.

Aerial movement in Smash 4 is dog shit. It's slow, restricted and has an assload of lag on landing. I regularly see people who get knocked in the air from mid-stage, then float over and grab the fucking ledge because it's the only reasonably safe way to get back on the stage.

You almost never want to jump if your opponent is on the ground, because it gives them a huge advantage over you. This also makes it way harder to deal with projectile spammers.

I've also had B-air go into fast-fall U-air as well as into N-air.

Although they're not as long as Mario's they do a fair number of hits with huge damage output. Keep in mind DK can KO at ~110% with many of his kill options.

Thats character specific. It's not guaranteed to get multiple upairs off of a cargo throw up. U-tilt does indeed lead to u-air in most scenarios but thats not exactly a "combo game". DK's current "combo game" is a complete disappointment compared to what it was in melee/brawl/pm/64. Also Up B went from being godlike to very sub pair real quick.

It was possible to abuse the invincibility and just roll right up to people while untouchable. It was technically possible on every stage though much harder to pull off. Yoshi's was the easiest due to the slope. Some people claimed DK's Up B was second best Up B in brawl as a whole. Only issue is that it was attached to DK.

I know it's fun to act superior and say "lol it's so early this tier list sucks there is no WAY that [character] could be that low" but seriously stop being idiots.

This isn't a completely new game, it's smash bros. We've played smash bros before, we know how it works. The game still has the same objective as the other ones: hit the opponent off the edge. We have enough knowledge of how smash games work, and enough pros who actually know what their talking about to create a base tier list that will develop. Obviously this isn't set in stone, but's it's definitely correct. It's just plain and simple "this character performs better in this Smash environment then this character." Maybe later there will be undiscovered techniques other characters have to help them get higher on the list, but just accept that some characters are just initially worse compared to some characters.

The roster this time around is actually looking to be really fucking interesting and fairly balanced compared to previous iterations considering how many characters are considered S (which I hole heartedly agree with, a lot of them are really good and deserve to be on top). Link being that high is awesome, and Bowser and Captain falcon being high is hype as fuck.

Also, if you're feeling down, or even emotionally defensive that your main is low tier, don't be. That means you kick ass with a low tier character. Remember, if you pick your character based on a tier list that you are a faggot. Pick your favourite character, whether is be Ganon or ZSS.

My biggest disappointment is probably megaman's placing. He needs better ground normals. His Jab, F-Tilt and N-Air being pellets really harms him, meaning his ground game relies on a bunch of moves that are either unsafe on block or have landing lag. As much as I love short hop F-Air, it's hitbox aint as big as the effect, and he doesnt have the tools to work at close range.

My main strategy that's been killing it lately has been to get the enemy in the air and let loose with well timed up-aerials, keeping harassment and pressure up with occasional specials and the Yoyo if in range. The backwards throw is a solid killmove, as is the baseball bat if the opportunity arises, but the up-aerial is where most of my enemies meet their end.

The pace of the game and how much the game rewards defensive or offensive play depends a lot on the characters being played. Sheik, Captain falcon, and a few others invoke very melee-like pace and gameplay, while Rosalina, Robin, etc. are more brawl-like. But it's never as slow and defensive as brawl and never as hyperactive and offensive as melee. Unless it's diddy ditto, then it's both as once.

Latency is very dependent on your personal connection. Lag is very rarely an issue, but some people just have shit connection and can't run away with it.
