>you will never again be a gamer in the late 90's early 2000's

Do you remember back when bright led's and over the top cases were popular?
Back when you used to go to lan parties and play 1.6, quake, unreal and various half life games.
Bro out in front of your ps2 or xbox.

Loading your gear up in your rusty beater with a big subwoofer so you can go to your bro for the whole weekend

Being a gamer will never be that cool again

I fucking miss it, but now I'm old and have responsibilities. I just wanna go back and be care free again.

CRT was still the biggest and no one even bothered with flatscreen monitors.

Today everyone play online games with eachother while having skype running, and those few who get together usually bring laptops

I remember loading up deus ex for the first time. I remember sitting in my comfy little chair in a dark corner of my comfy little room, wrapped in a blanket playing sims one winter.
I remember hitting up my friends on aim and messenger waiting for my offspring tracks to finish downloading on morpheus; Linkin Park blasting through winamp in the corner of my 1024x768 desktop.

Games felt so expansive back then. It was so much easier for my imagination to connect and for me to just get completely lost in a different world.
Everything was new and exciting and the internet was still relatively new and there was this big amazing world out there full of surprises and secrets and mystery.

Now I can't go ten minutes without seeing some dude crush a glass jar up his shitter or some random mexican getting chopped up by a cartel. Hardcore porn is all over, I can't stop looking at it. The mystery is gone and all that is left is a cold, brutal and hopeless world.

Still have an over-the top case mod.
Still have bros I play CS, Quake, UT, Starcraft, Warcraft with.
Still go to LAN parties with those bros, and have an awesome time coding, playing, snacking, drinking, helping with uni homework.

Must suck for all you kiddies, that are too lazy now because of online play.

I'm glad people know he's talking bullshit. That guy is an autist that thinks he's above others because he sits his ass and play games while he rants about people who work to sustain themselves and their families

Also the word game was never cool. You just have to say "I like playing videogames" just like people who love books, music or movies do. They don't call theirselves "moviers", "musicers" or "bookers"
>>
>>263860905

The nice thing about laptops for LAN parties now for me at least is that one doesn't have to unplug the monitor power cable, the RGB cable, the ethernet cable, the PSU cable, the mouse, and the keyboard, move all that shit to whatever transportation your taking, then move that shit AGAIN to your spot ad your friend's house, THEN do all of that AGAIN when you leave.

With laptops it's get the laptop, charging cable, and maybe a keyboard+mouse and you're good.

So you just substituted the word 'lazy' with 'not interested'. Online play has made people forget how awesome it is to socialize in real life over a common interest/hobby. And everyone is too lazy to put in the effort.
All that most do now is sit around crying on /v/ how it was better back then, when they just don't have the will to find and cultivate a band of real bros.

If it's any consolation, you aren't missing out on anything special. People still have LAN parties, and with far less fuss than they did all those years ago (although the fuss and hassle was always part of the fun).

The impression I get from reading all these posts is that people mostly just miss their childhood/having friends.

I mostly buy physical nowadays too. Problem is, most PC games require you to activate them on Steam or Origin even if you bought them as a physical copy. Pretty much started playing only console games after that.

I remember websites that had a java emulator in the browser and a bunch of ROMs you could just click to play. It was the Wild West days before companies realized that emulation was a thing and cracked down on it.

Remember trying to co-op games with a serial cable before you had a network?
And games that had a multiplayer spawn installer.

and the synch problems

Both of those sound way worse than skype and I have literally no noticeable audio lag
You're just an enormous faggot, teamspeak and mumble are shit tier clients

This brought back some feels. I always remember my mom's gigantic Gateway CRT, like it was the size of a fucking minifridge.

Call the gang together and drive around while blasting techno tapes. Check out NY from the top of the twin towers. Watch Men in Black in the cinema. Go home and watch the first season of South Park.

Ballmer pls go

Opus is the future. Skype is deprecated.

so, pretty much the same shit?

Plenty wrong. If it isn't them fucking shit up with drama and inability, it's their fucking orbiters that they just love to enable. Women + lonely nerds = trouble. Always.

I certainly remember the days. I don't have pictures that far back though, but here's one from 2008 with the glorious CRT monitor (which i still used a few years back).

The IBM keyboard from 1998 is still in use. They made stuff to last in the 90's.

>Now I can't go ten minutes without seeing some dude crush a glass jar up his shitter or some random mexican getting chopped up by a cartel. Hardcore porn is all over, I can't stop looking at it. The mystery is gone and all that is left is a cold, brutal and hopeless world.
What is this? 2006? Everything's so fucking sterile now that I'd give anything to go back to the days where the internet actually was brutal.
>>
>>263866409
;_;

I want "gaming" to die and become a niche hobby again.
>>
>>263860905
But this is still reality in banana/slavshit countries where internet connections are potato tier, toasters are cobbled together from discared parts, bubble gum and stickers and vidya is still distributed on bootleg CD-ROMs
>>
>>263884730
Nah. Used to play mostly PC games back in the day. My old consoles where mostly for exclusives and games that ran better on consoles like Silent Hill 4 and Metal Gear Solid 2.

>I may be the only one still stuck in the past, but honestly I really fucking miss it
Nah, you're not the only one.
I admit, I was only around for the very end of it, but it was enough of a taste to desperately miss it.

Gore ain't what I'm talking about, dweeb. Gore/ryona-wise I'm more than happy with what's being produced nowadays. It's the actual brutality of the internet that I miss, when shitposters like you kept to your "safe spaces" and when people could talk about what they want without fear of being banned, arrested, or pestered with inane moralfaggotry.
>>
>>263885319

I make it my mission to buy physical copies of games.
It's quite difficult, since most developers only offer a digital copy for PC users.
>>
It felt so good to stare at your stupid window with the LEDs bright as fuck and remember you built your PC. It was a great feeling.
>>
my family did not have that much money so I would go to my friends house, that motherfucker had direct tv(porn channels) he had a pc with starcraft and command and conquer red alert and a ps2

I remember staying until like 11pm in his condo playing games and my parents would walk around screaming my name for me to come home

you guys wanna know what, if I went home to take a shit my parents would not let me go out

so I would take shits outside behind trees and clean my ass with leaves so I would not go home and wait until my friend got to his condo so we could play all night

I miss that so much
>>
Might be going a bit off topic with this, but does anyone know of some movies that make you feel like you've been temporarily sent back to the 90s?
I've re watched Clerks too many times.
>>
>>263875480
yea fucking this. I hate laptops myself personally, but considering that most games these days are designed to run on toasters anyway, I can see a laptop being an awesome purchase for someone who does LANs or even just goes to friend's houses often.

only low audio quality if you have shitty mics and a shitty connection. skype auto-adjusts the audio quality based on bandwidth. next time make sure the host of the call is the person with a 100mbit/1gbit connection and you good

Yeah, if I can get a DRM-free physical PC copy of a game I tend to buy them day one. Steam ruined PC gaming for me.

I fear for a future where all entertainment will be streamed from some server somewhere.

>meme
You do realise that the hatred of emoticons doesn't come from some "meme" or anything similar, but from the fact that the people that use them are obnoxious passive-aggressive retards, right? No, of course not, the fact that people like you are seen as scum must be an ebin "may may" right? It's not as if you're an insufferable piece of shit that people are entirely justified in hating, right?
>>
In 20 years time I'll look back at the 2010s and become nostalgic over the general era of getting mad on an imageboard, complaining about every single game that releases, PS4, Steam and Wii U.

It's all about perspective. This decade in general, has been better than the last at least, more eventful. Seriously, 2001 to 2007 was just boring shit.
