Have you ever created a videogame yourself? Why not?
Currently in the process.
It's long and hard, I'm loving it. I have no technique and don't know shit about it so I'm animating frame by frame pixelart.
and there's nothing you can do to stop me
i've only made mods and stuff. I'm trying to learn programming and how to draw since I feel like the only thing i enjoy is creating things. it's tough tho, i'm usually tired from working 50 hours a week and when i get home all i want to do is drink and sit around on the internet. I have great ideas for video games tho, so i'll get something done eventually
I started on a RPG maker game a while back, where I drew everything myself, badly. It was fun, but I was mostly playing around as I didn't write anything before adding content to it.
I once designed & integrated a text story generator into a card game rpg an friend and I created, but it was more an extension and the base was non-vidya
Yes. In high school I took a course in VB and as a "final" we had 3 weeks to design our own video game. I slapped together an incredibly shitty, boring, buggy and un-inspired side-scrolling shooter in about two days so I could LAN Age of Empires 2 in class with all the nerds that had already finished every assignment weeks ago.
The course had the added effect of turning me off from ever wanting to have a career in CS/programming.
I made a very very short shmup for my freshman project in university (CS).
Fast forward 3 years and I haven't created a single game. Well, I started a few projects but they never went anywhere.
Just started a new project, hopefully I'll keep at it this time,
God, there is so much wrong in that picture that it MUST be some Reddit or Tumblrfag or fagguette who has no knowledge about video games whatsoever. Whoever drew this should be hit with a mace to the head.
I used to make mods of Orbiter when I was a teenager. Shit was fun, though the quality of what I made was mediocre at best.
I currently run a Ragnarok private server. I customized everything from the bottom up, though it still doesn't constitute game creation.
A couple bros an I are making a oil painted sci-fi point n click physiological mystery adventure with some turn based combat components in it. The game is heavily influenced by, and sorta homage to our mutual love of the novel Neuromancer.
I want to, but I'm also practicing art and learning both art and programming would be too much work for me, especially since I have trouble remembering things. Ontop of that, anything I'd want to make would definitely take a lot of programming knowledge to produce so I can't really just script something simple in an existing engine.
For now, I'm just getting into 3D and hoping that eventually, when I'm good enough, a project pops up that I can be a part of.
currently on a shitty edu-game project trying to fix all the shit some other group fucked over.
working on 2 other projects next to it. one a beat 'em up with exaggerated gangs, the other a small multiplayer/pvp thing that'll probably be released next year if all goes well
I'm making a super paper mario style RPG where you play as a tinker. Thinking of calling it "Super Gypsy 64"
Take milk and mix it with your own feces, semen, the film of smegma that cakes your asscheeks, and some garlic salt.
let the mixture dry itself out and smear it against a sheet of construction paper.
There, now even you can smell like vivian!
I'm making a 2D Action RPG
My game was originally inspired by Castlevania SoTN but I applied my own ideas to it for cuhrayzee combat and some systems I think will be interested once I get around to working on them.
I have a lot of stuff prototyped out so far, such as starting combat moves, health system (it's hearts right now but i'm thinking about doing a different system), text windows for NPC chatting and the inventory, but the art is mostly placeholder at the moment.
Honestly I took a break for a long ass time (about 8 months) because I demotivated myself, but once I de-neeted my life I all of a sudden found the motivation to work on it again.
Managed to even fix a bug today. I'm a bit rusty though so i'm sure that bug isn't completely fixed.
I wish I still had some of my old .gifs from last year when I was fixing bugs.
Making games is a lot of fun.
Finished my game design studies this summer. I decided to create something and I just finished my game design document a few days ago.
It should be made with UDK and should have some Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles feel, with Heart in Darkness, Trine and Rayman Origins/Legends aesthetics.
Wish me luck.
Also, concept art.
divided opinions, just like with everything
i think it's a great oc and i like all the lewd, but man some threads are cancerous. you cant do anything about that though, that's just /v/ waifuism acting.
ok first of all ive never been to tumblr.
>controller plugged into snes
the PS is not in the picture
>meme-shitting website and WoW
ok well that ill give you
>player 1 and 2
>shes waiting for you to join
PC tower not in picture
because it doesnt matter
all i want is lewds
So, you're already trying to damage control?
Just like /co/ didn't create Bronies.
>ib4, it's rigged
Really vivian-fags? this is your excuse?
I'm workin' on it.
I once tried making a sort of mechwarrior-style RPG using RPGMaker years and years ago. I was having trouble getting RPGM's retarded coding system to perform the functions I wanted (trying to get spells and abilities be specific to the parts your mech had equipped) and so I asked for help on one of the huge forums dedicated to RPGMaker.
Those people were some of the most shitheaded, unhelpful assholes I have ever met. You would not believe the kind of awful things they spewed at me. Seriously, they acted like I'd just raped their dog.
Anyway, the whole thing just put me off RPGMaker entirely. I tossed out all the sprite work I'd been doing, uninstalled, and never looked back.
I already did, but looks like you were too busy staring at low grade fap material to notice THE FUCKING SNES AND NOT A PS3
Your mother needs to keep you off the fucking internet until you can at least comprehend pictures right in front of your god damn drooling face
All of the text is placeholder.
Right now it's a reference to an animu.
I am creating one new, it's called Uncanny Valley. I posted it here a couple of times already.
Right now we released a demo that is doing pretty good! You can find it here: http://cowardlycreations.com/uncannyvalley.html
It's been reported on by some big sites already: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/09/08/android-nightmare-2d-horror-uncanny-valleys-demo/
Are you actually retarded? Did you notice that the PS3 cable is BLACK running to something off screen, where as the SNES cord is GRAY and runs off screen? Are you hording all the Dualshock 3 to SNES dongles?
I really like Vivian. I'd like to include Vivian as a student in Yandere-chan's highschool, but I don't know who "owns" Vivian, or who to ask for permission to use her likeness in my game.
Of course, it would be possible to kill her or befriend her, just like with any other student in the game.
Jeeze, the obvious samefag in this thread.
Tried making a game once, for a project.
Controls got fucked up, so I changed the game around the controls. The art was base level shit, there was no story, and the "bosses" weren't even real bosses.
Still had fun, despite it getting the lowest passing grade
I already explained this you shithead.
The artist is from fucking tumblr and has no idea what a video game entails besides "Beep boop ping! LEVEL UP!"
Fuck off with your epic vivian meme, and fuck off back to reddit.
No. I just don't know where to start. What programs to learn? How to animate well? How to give said animations personality and life after obtaining technical ability? Don't even get me started on writing a proper story for it, naming characters, and dialogue, which should be the easiest part, then the manga like cutscenes will be made to revolve around that. Yes I'd make an RPG for my first game.
I just asked nicely. However, I'm a bit disappointed by the coverage this time, last time (when I announced it) even Kotaku featured it. This time only RPS and Destructoid from the big sites.
But yeah, thanks. It's awesome watching people play the game on youtube.
As much as I don't want this thread to go into Vivian
No one really owns Vivian, she's free domain unless the original drawfag comes up and copyrights here, but that'd be like copyrighitng a meme.
Recently quit my job in the video game industry to work full time on my own game. Back to indie roots I quit 5 years ago.
< Pic related.
Part godgame, part voxel. You play as a cube. You can create avatars and possess them Dungeon Keeper style. You add rockets to space islands to make them your own spaceship then fight other players. Everything can be auto building and auto repairing thanks to living cubes.
(game still WIP and I never talked about it).
It's a very long process. I spent 5 years in the amateur / demoscene / indie community (before people called it "indie") as a programmer / tool developer on RPG Maker. I've help lots of great RPGs (b.e. To the Moon), but it didn't help me to pay taxes.
So I spent 2 years in a private video game school, then 3 years as a professional business assistant / community manager / crowdfunder specialist.
So, yes, it's 10 years long. In various 9 square meters (30 x 30 feet) large rooms in order to spare money.
Now I have enough money to live work full time on my game. I already spent 1 year and half part time on it, and I think I still need at least 8 months fulltime before an alpha.
If you want to make your own game, I strongly suggest to start with one of the entry level game maker software such as RPG Maker, Game Maker or Multimedia Fusion. You have to learn a lot about the different kind of files and the different jobs (Game Designer, Level Designer, Writer, 2D Artist, etc).
These softwares are robust and allow you to make fastly a first game. Besides, there are a lot of tutorials and forums to help.
If you are already a software engineer, or have good scripting skills, Unity 3D can be for you.
Whatever you do, always make screenshots and video of your work. It will be the only thing left after you quit your project / lose your sources / grow old enough to have wymen and children.
By the way, it's very usefull to put them in your book / resume to show that you are able to create something.
>I already explained this you shithead.
You didn't explain shit, because you wrote
>Wired to SNES
You didn't say shit about the CABLES being different colors, you assumed it was wired to the SNES because the two cables are going in the same general direction.
It's a pro-wrestling-themed VN with gameplay segments being split between a traditional 2D plane fightan and a side-scrolling beat 'em up.
The only reason I'm still working on it is because I'm having too much fun working on the VN segment. I think I'll just simplify the fightan segments into some sort of rock-paper-scissors system akin to Fate/Extra. If nothing else, it gives me an excuse to keep watching pretty much nothing but pro-wrestling.
Really amazing. I spent one day just doing that and I was just smiling all the time, especially because response was very nice most of the time.
RPGMaker and GameMaker has one of the shittiest communities out there since everybody acts like they're the next blessing to games. You'd be better off finding a programmer to work with or learning code.
>I'd like to include Vivian as a student in Yandere-chan's highschool
She'd just be somewhere in the school, probably in a corner playing on a handheld. There wouldn't be whole cutscenes dedicated to her, or anything like that. Every student must wear the school uniform, so the only difference between her and any other student NPC would be her hair, face, and maybe a unique idle animation.
>It's long and hard, I'm loving it. I have no technique and don't know shit about it so I'm animating frame by frame pixelart.
>and there's nothing you can do to stop me
>so I'm animating frame by frame pixelart.
If it wasnt for this, I would think you were talking about sex and raping Vivian, especially with OP's pic.
No breaks on the rape train.
You think this shitty artist cared about that when the pic itself is already such low quality?
The faggot who made a picture with a ps3 controller, and no visible ps3, but instead a visible SNES?
The faggot who put a kinect on top of the tv, while also running WoW on the computer?
The faggot who didn't even bother to draw an actual game instead of a generic start screen?
I think not, you literal fucking apes.
better to replace the main character with pic related
Maybe have her appear as an unlockable costume after you beat the game or something. That way you don't have the whole "/v/ culture" bullshit right up front which some people find intolerable but you still get to include it.
anon, I want to believe you, but I can't
Thanks guy. I can't believe there's so many people falling for this bull shit. It's probably just the people who contributed to the 5000 dollar character, and now they can't let go because they invested in it and don't want it to be a waste.
>You think this shitty artist cared about that when the pic itself is already such low quality?
>You think this shitty artist cared about that
Maybe they did it to
triggerautistic faggots like you.
from shit I made when I was a kid with that magic childhoom touch
to ironic shit I made today
to actually respectable stuff
YandereDev I've been following the game since it's inception here on /v/. It's your game do what you want, I'll still play it, but I'd rather you don't include vivian, because there is like a 50/50 or even more divide on her and if the people that hate this character see somewhere that Vivian is included they won't even THINK to give it a chance.
Just saying think about it.
>mfw 4chan designed my sister
you niggers have good taste
Just mods for a few games.
I'd like to learn Unity engine and see where it takes me. I'd love for it to be a source of income for me, but I'm realistic so it will likely just be a hobby
Programmer on the following things
>A multiplayer 2d platformer.
>A top down 3d shooter in the style of gta2.
>A browser game in style of civ 1.
>Offline mmorpg like 3D rpg in a homemade engine.
Filled to the brim with programmer art and bugs but some of them were playable.
>Worked on two commercial 360/PS3/PC games.
Work a normal programmer job and indie dev on the side. Professional game dev is a toxic environment where you're forced to listen to idea guys who haven't gotten the slightest notion of what makes a game tick.
Get a group of friends and make games with them. Some of them make music, others program or make art. It's the only way to remain sane.
Indie developers make pixel shit and act like the "retro" games they're trying to mimic WANTED to be pixel shit, not because of technological limitations
It's so fucking stupid, I hope this shitty "indie game industry" just dies
You know, I never really understood why people dislike seeing Internet memes in video games. For example, the stuff in Borderlands 2, or El Guacamelee, or Watch_Dogs. None of it bothered me at all. I even chuckled at some of it.
But I definitely acknowledge that a lot of people HATE that shit and don't want to see it in their games. I'd like to include a reference or two, but not if I'm aware that the majority of people want to vomit when they see that stuff.
I think I want to include a "Memes" checkbox in the options menu. It will be off by default. But if you tick it on, then internet memes show up in the game. This activates Vivian, and changes some of the game's dialogue. So, people who don't like that shit won't have to see it, but other people who would get a laugh out of it can enable it.
I'm actually all for video games including more options. Options to make female characters' costumes less revealing. Options to remove politically incorrect jokes. Options to remove homophobic slurs. The SJWs can toggle whatever they want so they don't have to feel offended while they play video games, and developers don't have to remove that shit in order to appease the tumblrwhales.
Anyone else think that's a good idea, or does it sound stupid?
What's wrong? Did his post
I'm about to finish my engineer university in
Greece. I will probably try to find a job as a programmer in another country because debtland has this weird thing of not paying people. I had the idea of trying to become a game programmer in the back of my head if I got the chance. Can you tell some more about being a programmer for a game compared to being a regular programmer?
That's a really good idea I must say. I don't like vivian but if I can play the game without having to puke, I'm all for it.
I've knocked together a few simple things while getting the hang of a language or something. Nothing exciting, through.
I love all these fags sperging about vivian. Boo Hoo, my favorite website is ruined because of an anime picture!
Because i can't into art, music or story. And only very mediocre at coding.
Are any of the Game dev tools worth anything instead of writing a game from scratch in a programming language?
Things like GameMaker come to mind (Risk of Rain), but how exactly do they help me make one?
It's less about disliking "memes in video games" but more like people dislike the character. Not because the character is complete shit but because of the fanbase, think /mlp/.
And I agree with people that dislike Vivian to be honest, it's just retarded, but if you like to make an option like that I'm all for it.
that's the thing though, for some reason they thing something like that in an imageboard created to post anime porn is the worse shit ever.
don't they remember we used to have boards for loli, guro and shit like that?
Depends on what kind of programmer you want to be.
Graphic/engine related stuff is vastly different from gameplay related programming.
One is high performance and in a low level language like C++.
The other can be C++ but often is in a 'scripting' language like lua, python, C#.
If you're indie you'll have to know both, in large teams however, you have to specialize to survive.
Try both and see what your forte is.
If you want to work in games, build a portfolio.
That way you can walk up to a company and show them: This is what I made, this is why I'm good.
nigga don't give in to newfags
a good % of the people that hate Vivian are underages trying to fit in
this fucking faggot didn't even know what was the archive and kept shitposting about le ebin gets
You do know tumblr isn't just SJWs right? You know it started as a Photography and Art site right? You do know that a good %70 of the porn posted here comes from tumblr since 2006 right?
Third Wave Feminism continues and will always be shit on by the mods here, a mod done fucked up recently and got his ass fired for being a biased SJW and deleting Gamergate threads when it was the only ones on the board.
Redditors will keep coming no matter what, 4chan has been mainstream since late 07-08.
She likes Hopsin and Filthy Frank and shit and I suspect she goes to 4chan herself, if I wanted her to know right now that I want to
love her tenderly and spend the rest of my life with her, even raising some kidsthen sure why not so long as I censored her face and blurred her skin texture.
>a mobile game for some finance company
Care to share how that came about?
Why does a finance company want a mobile game?
yeah it was the perfect compromise between the "waaa fallout has to be gritty and serious" and "waa it's a nuclear wasteland it should not be taken serious"
totally sounds like this threads
>The SJWs can toggle whatever they want so they don't have to feel offended while they play video games, and developers don't have to remove that shit in order to appease the tumblrwhales.
They'd just completely ignore the toggle button and focus on the fact that those things are in the game. You can't appease SJWs unless your game is completely free of anything remotely offensive, otherwise they'll always find something to bitch about.
It's a good idea on paper, but it assumes that SJWs actually want to do anything other than bitch at inconsequential bullshit, which isn't true.
Like everyone else I have a lot of ideas and love to waste time...
But I'm slowly learning that undertaking creative projects are actually fun once you actually get started. The key is just starting and keeping going
Guess I'll be "that guy" and ask: Where are the mods?
>Nevada-Tan becomes a competing killer
YandereDev just make a "vivian button" and leave it off, because I'd really like to see 4chan stuff in the game.
Just dislike vivian and it's fanbase, I have enough thread spam here, I don't need anymore.
She doesn't even really have much of a "fanbase".
Just about every post in this thread about Vivian are by people who don't like her and are just trolling in "her name".
It's the easiest way to get /v/ to dislike something, and it works every time.
I just wanted to talk about the making of videogames, why do you have to shitpost so hard about things you dislike?
Vivian is a cancer that has embedded itself on a deep-level and is perpetuated by 3 driving forces:
1)Reddit & Tumblr: Arrived here under the pretense that we're a 'united front' they have subsequently done what they do best; beat things to death from overuse of material (memes) in this case, Vivian.
2)#Gamergate/Quinnspiracy: There is also a pressure to accept Vivian, to fund TFYC and to use her as some sort of poster-girl. Because if you don't, you're assumed to be a 'shill' or the 'opposition' (SJW/Feminist).
3)Waifu-fags: With their strong NEET life-style and their blurred sense of reality, these fuckers are arguably the largest problem. Have you ever been on a video-game thread that features more than one female NPC/character? Ever watched it turn into waifu-shit in less than 10 posts? You have this cretin to thank. Their debauchery extends as far as ERP shit that has been clogging steam threads for years now. They are the toughest grime, as they bolster their actions using the rhetoric: ''LOOK WHERE YOU ARE, YOU'RE ON 4CHAN'' -- despite their stifling of /v/ideogame threads or topics of discussion.
When this #Gamergate/Quinnspiracy shit is over, the first two problems will dissipate (note how Vivian James is doing just that -- EXACTLY the same time the gamergate shit is dissolving).
However, problem #3 - the waifu-fag(s) - may prove more difficult. For this, we would need the aid from the mods.
Sad thing is, it's not even that many people shitposting but 2-3 anons being very vocal on shitting threads.
/v/ loves to follow the other sheep, no matter the direction it takes.
I'm designing a visual novel with pixel art battle segments set in WW2 with genderbent WW2 leaders that you can take on dates. I don't know why I started making it but I love every second of developing it.
>shitposting can be funny
you are cancer
It ain't a trap m8
These are the people that decide what is allowed and what isn't.
I'm making stuff in Xash3D (a recreation of the Half-Life Engine)
I just made a lifebar, I'm still familiarizing with C++ and the SDK.
Is this a bannable offense yet?
Honestly vivian bugs me because of how much she comes off as some artist's self insert. Like she was written into some fanfiction and is one tragic past away from being an ocdns. Would have been better if she were her own thing and not the 'daughter of /v/' and all that that.
On top of that her origins are casual as fuck. Let's not forget that her entire purpose was to be an NPC in a feminist phone game. There are different possible ones, yes, but the best one is still just some shitty spooky hotel farmville thing. If not that, some 2deep4u indie shit because /v/ isn't at the helm of the project. Not really.
>Have you ever created a videogame yourself?
Technically yes. It was a shitty turn-based dungeon crawler with Pokemon-like controls that I made in Java.
As for good games-
I'm in college and I have very little free time.
>how much she comes off as some artist's self insert.
Wat. She's a generic girl with red hair, freckles and a striped hoodie, those are pretty much the only constants about her. She doesn't have a personality, history or beliefs.
29 kbs of hot sexy sink action.
get it while the mods are asleep.
Exactly it comes off as a self insert because it's so outstandingly mundane. Most of the 'tan's here are at least a little silly/unrealistic. /v/'s forever angry or at least surly. /co/ is a superhero, /d/ is a futa tentacle monster fetish beast, even /ic/ when he's drawn i is a judgemental father almost constantly.
It's just irksome to see this so forced so often.
that i agree, she's supposed to be nothing but another npc in that future game, but since she was created here, people are going to call her /v/'s daughter. after all, it's in this board's nature to obsess over anything remotely femenine.
actually, forget that femenine part.
I'm actually thinking about starting a little project after I finish my masters thesis in computer science/software engineering.
I mean it's not like I have any debts or any obligation to start working right away. In fact I could use a little down time for a few private things to sort out.
The university I'm at might even get access to UE4 before I leave and there are a bunch of other engineers who might join me for this.
I was thinking about doing a kings field clone I also like Ultima Underworld, Gothic and greek mythology I won't touch any programming before I haven't fully designed every module/gamefeature that can be implemented separately
It seems they're really proud of her.
One guy wrote a cringey bio for her, something along the lines of "She's really smart but people are mean to her so she can't always voice her opinions."
I'd look for it but I don't have time right now.
