It's hard to explain, right off the bat I should say that the reason I enjoyed the DMC franchise from day-one is not because of its combat depth, which I can and will admit DmC lacks. But there is just something about the style in DMC1 that feels so distinct, this blend of flamboyant style and horror. That other DMC games lacked.

After little devils stopped developing DMC, I have just felt Capcom didn't really know what they should make off the franchise, they just reacted to fan feedback, with no real concrete vision of their own. They made DMC2, people hated it, they listened to what people didn't like, and made DMC3, and people liked the over the top stuff, so DMC4 was more of that. I don't know, DMC2-4 just feels like some kind of reaction from Capcom that says "Is this what you want? Maybe?"

And that is what I LOVE about DmC, it brings back that sense of self to the franchise. DmC feels so completely different, yet similar. It has that confidence in being its own thing that the series had lacked ever since after 1. DmC is different, and it knows that, and despite the several changes during development. It feels like a game developed with a vision, instead of a game developed according to fan wants and needs.

..except that final white hair cop out scene though, that was a load of bullshit.
