Who's the guy in the 90s supposed to be?
Of course it's true. The 90s were all about being awesome and excellent, the 2000s were all depressing, cynical and negative, and the 2010s are all about trying to make the whole world a fucking safe space for special snowflakes and retards.
A lot of people think that the 90s were cynical, but that's just not true. The 90s had a kind of anarchistic optimism to them. The 2000s, what with 9/11 and Iraq, the internet making international news more available than ever before, we entered an age of true cynicism that has lasted into the present. The difference between the 2000s and 2010s is that people saw a chance to make money off of pretending that the problem isn't in general human nature, but in MALE human nature, and thus the SJW was born.
I miss when the only sociopolitical thing "journos" complained about in video games was racism. Now you can't even have a male or female character without someone losing their shit because they don't meet their exact moral specifications.
that... might be the most accurate description of the last 25 years I have seen on 4chan so far...
We say that the terrorists didn't win on 9/11, but they did. The world is changed forever. People are scared for everything now.
Gaming journalism was "radical" and positive in the 90s because the average gamer was 12 years old and kids are best marketed to via excitement. In the 2000's most gamers had become adults and were more discerning and critical of things. By the 2010s pop culture has become synonymous with the internet and social media, which brings hyper awareness to everything to a fault.
To be fair that started long before 9/11. Remember Columbine in the 90s, and how idiots tried to blame it on Marylin Manson and Doom? Sensationalism in American television started somewhere in the 80s, but it definitely got bad in the 90s and became unbearably terrible in the 2000s.
American media is the biggest enemy the American public faces.
Don't forget the OJ Simpson trial and the creation of Court TV/CNN becoming super-huge because of their coverage of Desert Storm helped to push that culture of hyper-sensationalism too
>The 2000s, what with 9/11 and Iraq, the internet making international news more available than ever before, we entered an age of true cynicism that has lasted into the present.
Someone wasn't an adult in the 90's.
You're essentially describing what it's like to have nostalgic ignorance from the period in which you were raised.
>When I was a kid, it was all about being awesome
>When I was teen, it was all depressing
>As an adult, it's about disgruntled hatred
Fuck that's pretty much everyone's life from childhood to adulthood.
a) that's not even remotely what's happening
b) enthusiastic/cynical/egalitarian sentiments aren't "overanalyzing" anything, you just dislike one and like the rest. you might as well say that the others are underanalyzing them.
>You mean we decided to get in Obama's war by helping them.
>because of their coverage of Desert Storm helped to push that culture of hyper-sensationalism too
>that culture of hyper-sensationalism
The same culture that birthed the SJW
Nigga what, life in the 90s wasn't anywhere near as triste and hopeless as it seems today
>degrees were still worth a damn
>manufacturing sector wasn't entirely demolished
>look at all the gen Xers and how they didn't give a shit about anything
>economy was doing amazing
>Cold War was over
>internet wasn't a thing so nobody really knew what was going on in the world
>outrage culture wasn't anywhere near as bad
>vidya technology was growing in leaps and bounds
We had Dubya for fucking 8 years in the 2000s, and the entire world went from loving America to absolutely hating it - I know because I was in Europe during the 2000s. Mass unemployment, economic struggles, the housing bubble collapsed, pointless war on par with Vietnam, Patriot Act, all that bullshit that we thought we were done with after the Soviets kicked the bucket.
>oh gosh everything is so awesome
>oh gosh everything sucks
>oh gosh everything is getting worse
paraphrased from every generation in the last few thousand years, if not longer
Gaming companies have always attempted to market to young audiences because they are easy to manipulate. The only difference is now they do it by pretending to be mature by adding a coating of violence to everything.
Not to mention: We went from almost impeaching a president for getting a blowjob from an intern to doing absolutely jack shit to a president that sent us into an economic downward spiral, started two wars out of hubris and revenge, destroyed our economy, and sent us into astronomical debt in order to kill the guy his daddy hated.
2000s were a HORRIBLY cynical time compared to the 90s.
I was gonna say that you could try /vr/'s doom general, but it's ruined by a tripfag circlejerk and you can literally get a 3 day ban for arguing with the perceived "norms" that the tripfags agree on.
And last year Snowden put the gravestone on what Obama continued after Bush- you really shouldn't have been wiretapping the one nation that still saw you as the big brother Amerika.
You have no idea how disappointed it made me to learn of all of what you did to us.
>You have no idea how disappointed it made me to learn of all of what you did to us
Imagine how I felt. The dream of freedom died in the Whiskey rebellion.
>America goes through the most significant economic boom in recent history
>People with 4-year degrees can't even get jobs they're overqualified for
Your argument is invalid you fuck.
I'm the anon you're quoting, I've been living in Germany for over ten years now, and I am appalled at the breach in trust we've caused. I am so sorry.
Ben "pull the trigger on every nigger" Garrison is an infamous neo nazi who hang out on /pol/
His art style is similar to an unknown person who made hilariously racist comics under the name "A. Wyatt Mann."
So somebody came up with the idea of not only suggesting that Garrison WAS Mann, but going to the lengths of altering Garrison's works to be hilariously racist. So the joke is that Garrison is secretly a massive, big-time racist who is hiding behind his artists' facade.
So now /pol/ uses Garrison as their go-to artist.
>>implying there aren't wannabe terrorists in the gaming community
>implying there aren't wannabe terrorists in every community.
Who are these people making content for since they hate us so?
The personification of GamePro. His face is pretty much the "with a hat" version of their "5/5 face"
Don't be dense. By "overanalyzing" he's probably referencing how a disproportionate amount of attention is being given to aggrandizing issues that are tangential and wholly unimportant to what video games are about. For example, claiming that "misogyny is rampant in video game culture!" because women get called out for bandwagoning or that they receive tailored flames and ribbing in online play is indeed "overanalyzing", because it unduly focuses on gender and ignores that these things are ubiquitous for all players, regardless of gender. If a dude is wearing a Metroid shirt yet hasn't played the game, and can't even talk about it on any level, he'll be made fun of for it and called a poseur. If he's a shitty, annoying team-member in TF2, he'll get lambasted for being a faggot. Women want to be handled with kid-gloves.
It's overanalyzing. Don't be pedantic.
Has anyone else noticed how it's no longer cool to be a "rebel"? How today the "cool" thing is to conform? I mean there's always been people who think conforming and running with the crowd is cool, but when I was growing up, there were loads of people who expressed themselves by being different, being metal-heads or punks or goths or whatever. Is it just me, or are those types of kids not as common anymore?
All I see these days are people expressing themselves through their sexuality, but still trying to be as "normal" as possible, despite being gay, lez, bi, queer or trans.
Fucking hell, don't tell me furries are the new anti-conformists.
It's okay guys, I can't really blame you. From over here it looks like the people have entirely lost control of the government and it's just doing whatever it wants now. A part of me wants to blame you for letting it get that far but that doesn't get me anywhere with my personal American friends either so I'm not going to go down that route.
It's just that it really made me aware of just how dependant on America we are over here. Every machine everywhere has processors in them from America, most of the code is from you, most of the frameworks for both is from you. And there's backdoors in all of it, many of them surely hardware-based. Yeah Germany makes some nice cars and planes and ships, what does it matter if someone in Washington can wave a finger over the keyboard and everything shuts down? And then have it pushed in your face that that's very real in case you don't do what Captain America says?
It's not comfy at all.
well it was more
>garrsion has a super similar style to wyattmann
>also all his comics are anti fed and literally one edit away from anti zog
>/pol/ does this for giggles
>garrison eventually finds out
>this of course is hurting the fuck out of his career
>/pol/ didn't hate initially mind you, most of /pol/ share the same views just with a dash of antisemitism
>instead of calmly asking for /pol/ to stop, which they would have
>he hires a jewish lawyer and tries to make a cause to get 4chan shutdown or whatever
>so begins garrison being known as "zyklon" ben or the "one man Auschwitz" ect.
>his career is now actually ruined, and the /pol/ comics come up first on google
I feel bad for him, but the whole jewish laywer thing and back peddling his anti censorship libertarian views makes it hard for me to stop spouting the jokes myself
>there were loads of people who expressed themselves by being different, being metal-heads or punks or goths or whatever
Being a punk in the 90s wasn't "rebelling", it was the cultural norm. FFS, Rage Against the Machine was on Saturday Night Live in 1996.
If anything we have more diversity now because the internet has let people fit in whatever weird niche they want to.
Not to point fingers, but you guys also need to watch your own politicians. I'm not allowed to vote in Germany (because not a citizen) but you guys still managed to get Merkel and the CDU voted AGAIN - for, I think, the third freaking time in a row? Surely you realise that's part of the problem? I know Schröder was always friendly with the USA but I don't know if he would've let them walk all over Germany the way Merkel does.
Not to excuse anything my country has done, but man you guys gotta get the USA's dick out of your politicians' asses, that responsibility is on you. I can't change dick about Germany, but you guys are way too awesome to be playing America's lapdog.
>tfw I've seen this bitch around toronto
That said, Ontario has a lot of conservatives outside of Toronto and it's nigger suburbs.
The graffiti I see in Burlington and Milton are almost always swastikas and I remember in high school in oakville they'd throw pennies at the one jew kid.
You know, I have a feminist sister who plays videogames but I hear way more SJW-talk from here than from her.
She actually likes to play videogames though, so it's not a fair comparision
Shit, me too. Tell me anon, I grew up in Whitby. Why does Toronto suck so bad, seriously? I mean, I love the city and the CN Tower and all that junk, but fuck me Toronto is a shitty place to live.
Replace racist with misogynist or sexist or something and you got it.
You're not listening to what I'm saying, RATM was the top 40 of the 90s. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are the RATM of today. You can talk all you want about the "quality" of it or whatever but RATM are not nearly as "edgy" or "counter-culture" as you make them out to be.
Merkel's a git but she knows how to keep the votes behind her; desn't help that she knows a think or two about economy and kept the country prospering. She's stepping back now though when her time runs out so we'll have a new chance.
But what are we going to do? I can't tell why she isn't acting. I've got a few theories. Either she's somehow hoping to get the BND into the Five Eyes to gain from this frightening surveillance network all over the world or she's too dead-set on the TITP / the general huge amount of trade between USA and Germany to try and risk that. It's all economy bullshit over the values we've prized for so long.
I'm just as much a leaf in the wind as you man, I can't redirect this train any more than you can the USA's.
I don't have the link but there is like a video were she gets trolled by some nigger preachers and bickers with them for like 40 minutes
He is doing his best to change his reputation with a lot of his new comics, I guess it goes with his anti-statist agenda
>I'm just as much a leaf in the wind as you man, I can't redirect this train any more than you can the USA's.
Yeah, I know... I just sometimes like to pretend the German government is less corrupt than ours.
I know it's not the case, your politicians are just smarter about hiding the lobbyism and nepotism, because American politicians apparently have the tact and secrecy of a sledgehammer.
URGH the thing that pissed me off the most was the knee-jerk reaction of Merkel's to the Fukushima thing. She's got her doctorate in freaking quantum chemistry!! She should know a thing or two about radiation and nuclear power, but instead of rationally working with the issues at hand she decided to buckle under the pressure of sensationalist popular opinion and SHUT DOWN EVERYTHING concerning nuclear power - except she also decided to buy power created by nuclear plants from France, so she didn't really change anything, she just further shifted Germany into being dependent on another country's power supply.
Man sorry I could rant for ages about Merkel (alter ich darf echt gar nicht erst von der fucking Jungen Union anfangen), but it's really frustrating to be unable to have a say in anything that goes on in this great country.
>and the entire world went from loving America to absolutely hating it
There, uh, there were certain parts of the world that hated America before Bush, don't worry :^)
>mfw they have a booth at the Gamescom
>I go to them
>"Oh hey you're all about digital rights here? Lets talk"
>mfw I vote Pirates
I blew her the fuck out in two minutes flat. I can't believe how much of assclowns these people are.
And I think Germany's at least a bit better off in terms of corruption (the FDP Mövenpick thing comes to mind); it's just that you can't move a nation all alone. That stuff is tidal-wave-tier magnitudes.
Also you're a bro. Add me on steam.
Damn i never post here and have no social media but this place has been all i frequent for better or worse since 08. Right in the feels. I love you faggots.
U wot m8? The Isis aren't muslims, nor are the taliban, nor are any radical group that say they're whatever religion. That would be saying nazis are christian or zionists are jews (though i feel that zionists and jews are the same thing even though it's not).
I don't like this. I don't like this at all. But it's true.
Can you check where they say "that say they're whatever religion". Just because it says "islamic state" doesn't mean ass if they don't prove it. Jesus Christ even the taliban called them radical . How low could you go to achieve such a label? Though the nazis weren't christian by name they took shelter with the help of priests after world war 2 and Hitler claimed to be some form of Christian. Regaurdless their faith on whatever religion they hold is void. For both cases because somewhere in their scripture it says to tolerate the previous religion(s). Seriously in the quran if you even read the 2nd chapter it says "Sabians, Christians, and Jews and other people of the book will go to heaven" or something like that. But instead they behead and execute them and in the isis and taliban's case they even behead the shia muslims. Truly immense faggotry commited by all of them.
Drugs happened Anon
No? Shia Muslim..... that's been on /pol/...... and /b/... who stumbled upon a thread that said "Why haven't we nuked all the muslims yet?" I still post and lurk here and /vr/ regaurdless. MUH DOOM
maybe late 90s, and not even close to the majority. It wasn't even universal (at least for consoles) until gen 7, and a lot of PC games these days don't bother with it now.
the bigger issue with my image is that it's a huge exaggeration. How many games can you name that actually have a trigger warning?
>Can you check where they say "that say they're whatever religion".
>is a jihadist group in the Middle East.
>In its self-proclaimed status as a caliphate, it claims religious authority over all Muslims across the world
I'm sure you don't need me to tell you what a calphite and jihadists are. ISIS is a religious movement, the Nazis were not.
I'm surprised this is getting so much attention, I thought this was generally acknowledged by most people on here. While the 90's weren't the pizza and vidya-fueled paradise some people make them out to be, they were a much more optimistic time in comparison to the 2000's. The rise of the internet and the media's tendency to report negative news along with widespread feelings of self-doubt have allowed this cynicism to rise in the 00's and be controlled in the 10's. This entire past month has been a perfect example; controversies, riots both in Ferguson and on the web, and you can't load up a new page without hearing about someone getting killed by the police or ISIS or a kid getting run over. People are growing hopeless and depressed from everything, which is exactly why the SJW movement is going to blow itself up; it just makes people feel even worse.
Some people just try to get away from it by browsing forums all day while donating hundreds of dollars to their favorite Twitch streams and padding out their social media accounts, but it can only fill the void so much.
Ok my hairy nigger, I'm growing a beard too. To be honest I stopped after seeing a few drug and suicide threads.
I've told you before, they can claim whatever they want. Regaurdless they have no right to claim to say they're muslim. I just need people to understand this. Especially when they haven't even read the quran past the first chapter that is literally 7 verses (or sentences).
Is it wrong that she makes my pee pee hard?
It doesn't matter what you believe, the fact of the matter is that they're an islamic (read: muslim) group motivated by a religious ideology. Whereas the Nazis, even though they were christian, were a nationalist movement before anything else.
By your logic, Jehovah's Witnesses aren't christian or religious because other christian denominations like Protestants and Catholic consider them to hold twisted views on their religion.
I don't like SJWs and video game journalism mixing.
>Beat the shit out of iraq
>Technology advancing like never before
>New milennium around the corner
>Technology becoming more accessable and common
>9/11 changed everything
>Media finally reaches the shit event horizon
>Economy keeps fucking up
>Nanny state shit worse than 90s
>Beginning of internet being an extension of your real life
>Companies collapsing, worst financial frauds happen
>Technology slowing down
>internet now more connected to your real life and srs bsns than ever
>rise of reactionary SJ retards
>shit shit and more shit
I wish everyone on here would stop sucking your dick over completely expected /v/-grade armchair-sociology about how 90s were le right generation and then 9/11 made everyone hate men or something.
Cry some more faggot.
Its mostly outrage over the violent and illegal oppression by the police armed with military gear.
See, this is real shit. Oh a video game you never played implied something mean about somebody? Cry me a river, or better yet, get off your lazy ass and go help real people facing real problems.
Hell, I'm a white 30 something man who has never used drugs or committed a single crime and I still have to deal with shit from the police. My mom got her arm dislocated because our neighbors are friends with the mayor and called the cops on her (ridiculously tiny) dog.
There's two kinds of cops: The ones who are corrupt as fuck and the ones who let the corrupt as fuck ones get away with it.
>Technology slowing down
Just in terms of vidya, things are looking pretty good. With the Geforce 800 series just around the corner and promising better power than the 700 series and cheaper than the 700 series, things are looking pretty good.
To the german guy crying over the confidence lost in America... Well... Half of the countries of Europe (and their people), including Spain, think you guys, as the technical grandmasters of Europe, are effectively doing the following:
1. Enforcing policies which constrain a country's natural, national economy (ie: you don't allow to fish more than these many fish, or to harvest more than this much wine, or dig more than this much metals), so as to not "upset the balance" of the European Union.
2. Because of the industrial and productive shifts caused by this, countries are more dependant than ever on trade and commerce with the rest of Europe, and have less resources available to fend for themselves. They also have to pay extra taxes to "Europe" to maintain their European Union Member status. This kind of "ties" all the countries to Germany, which is currently the king of the hill country here.
3. After the global crisis, countries with less resources became in debt (in part because our own politicians' incompetence to cope with the new economical constraints), and get EVEN MORE dependant on you guys. Many people who admired Germany in my country now hate your guts, and like this, in many other countries
The results? Extreme right wing parties gaining power in England and France. Flemish anti-european separatists winning elections in Belgium. Nazis in Greece gaining power, and a long etc.
We had a civil war 80 years ago and a very humilliating period with Franco's dictatorship. The right wing is extremely frowned upon here, so we're having extreme left wing parties getting out of control. And a sense of anti-Europeism has been going on everywhere since the crisis destroyed our economy and you took advantage of that to rebuild it as you want it rebuilt, to favour Germany.
Fuck Merkel man. Why.jpg.
HEY KIDS (BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW ADULTS ARE TOO LAME TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES) BUY OUR LICENSED SHIT! ALL YOUR FRIENDS ARE DOING IT! IT'S 11/10 AND YOU WON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE ANYWAYS!
Dude, no. Just no. Go check some tech papers or something. Technology is fucking spiraling out of control.
Nobody knew what graphene was until 2008, and now we can use it to make elevators to take us up to space.
Also, nervous tissue was fully regenerated on mice a few months ago. If you break your spine tomorrow, chances are you'll be able to walk again in a couple decades.
Technology is growing exponentially, regardless of you not finding graphical differences between the PS CHRIPPLE and the PS4.
>we can use it to make elevators to take us up to space
Not true. Not even close, and we've known about it since before 08. I remember reading about it in a magazine as early as 05
Technology wants to be able to grow exponentially, but its limited by human capacity for comprehension. Once stuff becomes to complicated for a person to grasp in a reasonable amount of time, the ability for it to continue growing that way diminishes. It begins to take as long to understand something for it to become obsolete.
It's kind of a cyclical thing. We go through era of propriety and rebellion fairly regularly. The Victorian/Edwarian prudishness gave way to the roaring 20s. The homogenous blandness of the 50s gave way to the 60s and 70s. Post Reagan we got the 90s, with South Park and WWF's Attitude era.
Comic book writer Grant Morrison attributes this to sunspots. I don't know if I buy that, but I feel we are on the verge of another shift towards counterculture and vulgarity.
I would be if I was going to college like a little faggot conformist that wants to live the school life a little longer. I'm going into the military though.
Everyone's apathetic nowadays, aren't they?
Like, about everything, not just vidya. It makes sense though - religion is dead, nationalism is dead, ideology is dead. What've we got left?
we have it worse than any days in the past. world war 2 was just a drop in the bucket against the crimes against humanity that is happening right now even though im only 16 i understand enough to see that it isnt ignorance the internet gave us knowledge to see how bad things are now compared to a long time ago
You guys are really dumb. How is the military in any way conformist? College is conformist to society's ideals. The military fights for freedom to be against conformation.
The guy has probably been reading too much /pol/ and has his head on backwards now thinking freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength.
Really though, the military is a decent way for a man child to be able to stay that way for a few more years. You'll have less freedom to do as you please, may get maimed, and you'll make hardly any money at it, but you'll be able to come out of it with as little understanding of how the world works as you did as a teenager.
They could have chosen a better poster boy for militarized police. It is an issue, and a huge one at that, but using a guy who robbed a store then attacked a cop as your martyr isn't a good idea.
The problem is the media will never give airtime to a non-violent white guy getting killed, while they'll shill for a violent roodypoo.
You have to admit at least the army doesn't pussyfoot around what they are trying to do. With college classes there are a good amount of professors that see it as a way to spout their agendas.
>haven't you ever been to a lit college class.
>implying they shaved my head, gave me a uniform, had me march and chant in time with others, gave me a rank, and tell me how I need to look/where I need to be at what time in college lit class
He didn't rob that store, m8. The police actually got caught lying.
Going to a state school brainwashes you just as much as joining the military.
The military brainwashes you to be loyal to your superiors, to obey orders without thinking about them, that sort of thing.
Universities brainwash you to hate straight, white, christian men and to attack anyone who is "intolerant" in the name of social justice, totally ignoring how intolerant that is.
>to doing absolutely jack shit to a president that sent us into an economic downward spiral, started two wars out of hubris and revenge, destroyed our economy, and sent us into astronomical debt in order to kill the guy his daddy hated.
Not to defend Bush, because he really doesn't deserve defending, but almost everyone in Congress was behind that shit.
The democrats were just able to sit back afterwards and be like "we told you so," even though they were just as war-crazy, due to a Republican President being in office.
Lots of people were behind all the bullshit that happened through Bush's presidency. He definitely caused some problems himself, but to put all the blame on him is retarded. Problem is that, while Bush is now unable to run again, a lot of the other people are still in office, and Obama's bad in a whole different way.
I think the reason people are so cynical nowadays are because they see all these problems, but they know there's very little, if anything, they can do to fix them. We're spiraling to a major catastrophe, and those that can help are too busy doing something else.
The ship has some massive fucking holes in it, but the mechanics are too busy arguing about what food the passengers should be eating for lunch.
I really fucking hate that patronizing look on the guy's face in the last panel. I expect him to start explaining what racist means next, like you'd explain to a 5 year old that taking other peoples things is wrong.
>implying a hambeast yelling at you is the same thing as the things listed in >>259883739
>implying you can't disagree with SJW shit in college as long as you're coherent, rational, and polite about it
If either of you are the kid joining the military, for real, think about why you believe what you believe. Are you really gonna decide your life based on what you've heard on /pol/, bro?
>implying you can't disagree with SJW shit in college as long as you're coherent, rational, and polite about it
/pol/ actually liked him a lot
had he just made a plea asking for them to stop they probably would have felt bad and it wouldn't have spiraled like it did
but instead he had to go get a jew to take down /pol/
most /pol/acks feel for garrison
9/11 was a false flag, you retard.
>People who never went to college know exactly what it's like in college
man I just turned 18 this summer even though I've been on 4chan since I was in 7th grade and I'm fucking scared to grow up in a world were is socially acceptable to identify as a calzone.
>they aren't as common as /v/ likes to believe
The SJWs that /v/ tends to talk about aren't, but there are a lot of SJWs for other issues.
Look at the shit with Ferguson, and all the people who are showing support for Michael Brown. Hell, our President sent the motherfucking ATTORNEY GENERAL to meet with the thug's parents.
Not saying the cops were right, but we didn't need people rioting in the streets just because some punk-ass kid got shot. Of course, some 10 year old kid gets shot by an officer because she thought a Wiimote was a fucking gun and no one talks about it, but some dude who actually committed a crime gets shot while resisting arrest and it's suddenly a hate crime.
Have you two been to college?
I straight up told a feminist, AT A FEMINIST MEETING, that she was wrong. She said that I could never understand what it's like to be the target of sexism or some shit. I told her
I'm Arab and people threw bricks through the windows of my father's pizzeria after 9/11, my phone was tapped, and the FBI showed up multiple times. I asked if she could sympathize with this. She stammered, because she thought I was white (hue). I said yes, yes you can, because you're a fucking human being and most of us can empathize with one another.
>Lash out and make accusations
Keep trying, loser
but anon I already checked my cisseronni pierivlege I just want to go to school and become a fucking genetic scientist and help people with brain problems and that was before all this SJW shit started
But that's not even true. All but one of my friends who went to this club were white. And we regularly disagreed with one another, and it was fine.
Have you been to college? Serious question.
Watch this, faggots.
>Iraq was trying to and almost succeeding in making nukes.
Not only was that not true at the time http://books.google.com/books?id=27XfAgAAQBAJ&pg=PT248&lpg=PT248&dq=100+things+you%27re+not+supposed+to+know+iraq&source=bl&ots=EHxHM1DIRA&sig=qYp2fTM1zf75-IpHZw2Q6R0pNs4&hl=en&sa=X&ei=mQf8U6mEOYLksATU7oKYDA&ved=0CB4Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=100%20things%20you're%20not%20supposed%20to%20know%20iraq&f=false
but also IRAN had been trying to enrich uranium for years before and after Iraq, and were a much bigger international threat. If the USA was going to invade any nuclear weapon making country, it should've been Iran, not Iraq.
Private schools aren't retardedly SJW, or at least not as hard as public schools.
I also go to a private school, and while the staff is pretty SJW, the students really aren't.
>teen years bad
>the years i discovered masturbation and quake
>Its mostly outrage over the violent and illegal oppression by the police armed with military gear.
The only reason the police armed themselves with military gear in the first place was because there was rioting and looting and people burned down the shops of innocent shopkeepers in protest to Michael Brown.
While I don't necessarily agree with what the cops did, the people of Ferguson are not innocent in this. They are just as destructive, if not more destructive then the police. Most of the police are using rubber bullets. The protesters have guns with actual bullets and fucking moltovs.
Hahaha, silly kaffir, you don't even realize this is all part of taqiyya
thanks m8 :^)
Maybe that's what it is. Although I've got friends at public universities (Rutgers, Rowan, Temple off the top of my head) and I've never heard them talk about "SJWs" or anything.
The police at Tahrir Square used them too. A bunch of Egyptians are permanently disabled, and some are dead, because they were hit in the head, neck, or chest with them.
Can you imagine how frustrating that must be? To try and bring up an opposing viewpoint for a popular topic only to be drowned out by hipsters who won't even let you talk?
Fuck, I actually feel bad for her.
It's a generational thing. Millenials are an optimistic generation.
And we're seeing how fucking terrible optimism/idealism is when people try to bring it to the real world. People are trying to make the world perfect, but that means perfect according to their personal beliefs, and anyone who doesn't want that same type of perfection is demonized as some form of evil (misogynist, racist, homophobic).
>You can hear a sucking sound from all the jobs leaving the country
Clinton is the Democrat version of Reagan. They both were popular figure heads, but they fucked the economy sideways.
It's the Middle Eastern equivalent of bydlo that want that shit. My family, for example, is all Nasserists - if you don't know, he was all about secular Arab nationalism. They're also pretty well off by Egyptian standards.
I'm a Bio major, so that probably plays into why I've not really seen it. Although I'm friends with a Fine Arts major who hasn't spoken about it either.
>the army doesn't pussyfoot around what they are trying to do.
They do that constantly. What do you think happened in Iraq?
And how the fuck would a math professor spout their agenda and have that affect anything as far as the course? The only time you find these lunatic professors is in bullshit women's studies programs that no one takes seriously.
Could you explain Nasserism to me? I read through the wikipedia page but I'm not sure if I understand it. I don't really have a lot of knowledge regarding Arabic countries and movements.
>I think the reason people are so cynical nowadays are because they see all these problems,
People are just cynical because the job market has sucked largely because of a huge amount of illegal immigration that has led to the illegal immigrants now complaining they're being persecuted while just trying to live like normal Americans.
What is the deal with this /pol/ habit of equating post-modernism with critical theory? Critical theory is only a small part of the vast and varied landscape of post-modernism.
You forgot to add that the head of companies here (like Apples) would rather send their plants over in China because it's cheaper, or how some company would send their data-entry and tech support over in India, or wait, my favorite one, those companies brings in those Indian into our country with Work Visa and take the jobs from all the kids and adults alike.
FUCKING EPIC 5 GUYS MEME BRO FUCKING 10/10 I AM LAFFIN YOU ARE SO ORIGINAL ITS NOT LIKE YOU FAGGOTS HAVE COMPLETELY RUINED THE ENTIRE BOARD IN LESS THAN A WEEKS TIME. 2020384/10 I AM FUCKING BEYOND MAD YOU COULD POWER A FUCKING COUNTRY WITH MY RAGE FUCK YOU.
I do filter them. They still pop up because people dont use the 50 key words i filter with. And its not like i still dont see at the top of the page every time saying that at least 7 threads at the same time are filtered. Fuck you guys i just want to talk about video games. I dont give a rats dick about some stupid woman who had sex to get a job because everyone fucking does it in every industry.
>The democrats were just able to sit back afterwards and be like "we told you so," even though they were just as war-crazy, due to a Republican President being in office.
Are you serious? Shitloads of Democrats voted against the Iraq War.
>Obama's bad in a whole different way.
He's actually bad in most of the same ways.
And then those companies complain about how horrible the Indians are at their jobs and hire 5 of them to do a job one American could have done. It's really fascinating to see in action.
These people they bring over and nearly retarded and yet companies pay through the nose for it.
>not including this picture
Putin looked like a kid that just made his first friend.
It kind of sad to think about it. The kids and adults here in the states work their butts off to learn and earn a degree in computering and tech support, only to not get hired because it's easier to hired those Indians, who don't really care about the State and wouldn't hesitate to bring all the cash they earn to India. These kids and adults get rail at by their parents and friends for being lazy and not working in McDonald.
This is just one side of the coin. It's a matter of perspective. As someone employed in the R&D business i have an entirely different view on things.
>Uncertainty about enviormental future as emissions slip further and further out of controll
>New age spiritual crap and Neo-creationists become mainstream and poison education and common sense.
>Human genome project finishes and we usher in a new age of research medicine and possibilities.
>Real age of internet as smartphones spread to even the poorest corners of the world. Raising education everywhere.
>Serious investment into longterm projects
>We finally get a grip on our environmental polution. The future of our planet is not that bleak after all.
>We enter a golden age of material science. We find the one after the other material that have better properties than even the previous ones in matter of months (sometimes even weeks)
>Real progress in the fields of AI again after decades of stagnation.
>Decade of the brain. Governments and facilities aroud the world pour massive amounts of resources into brain mapping. We learned more about the brain in the previous 2-3 years than we did in our entire scientific history combined.
>Grand automation. The brain development coupled with the AI gains could mean for some pretty exciting developments in the future. What it means for a good portion of the economy to be automated is not for me to say.
It's just a matter of perspective.
Not that anon. But religion is needed in society, even if it is naive or primitive, doesn't really matter. As long as people keep in touch with supreme being that gives them purpose in life and basic moral principles that are respected by other members of society.
>But religion is needed in society
Yes, it is, societies without religion tend to collapse sooner or later or become corrupt.
The moment that people realize that they are on earth because of two reasons:
1. they were born
2. they are not dead yet
1.Human life doesn't really matter
2.In the long run what you do, do not matter
The society start to erode, which leads to crisis.
you didn't consider 1 factor.
The fact that technology develops exponentially. And that it is possible to become immortal in our lifetime. So:
>1.Human life doesn't really matter.
2.In the long run what you do, do not matter.
Doesn't really count anymore since this is based on the situation that all people eventually die. Which wil not be the case forever.
How the fuck would that benefit us when most of use don't have job? Oh and EVERYTHING is going to automated in a few years, from factory assembly to your basic doctor. I wish I have that youtube link from /biz/, but basically state that robot can do all the shit we could do but cheaper.
Yes i know what video you wanted to link. It's called "Humans need not apply". But you see it from the other side. Automation is EXACTLY what we need to accomplish it. People not having to work anymore could make this place a TRUE communist utopia. Everyone getting everything they want (materialism wise). And there wouldn't be efficiency problems because no one is going to work. No inequality because everybody does the same shit. It's gonna go Wall-e route. Most people just want the best for each other and the species so i trust that when most of the things are automated resources will be devided in this post-scarcity society.
The only thing that would do is create more retarded tumblrites.
Everyone will have all the time in the world to be offended about everything, and all the money to fund their favorite oppression-rectifying politician.
Communism will once again be proven to be ultimate shit.
Think of it like this
If immortality becomes available before maximum automation hits off. It would be cheaper for governments to make someone immortal than to have to pay them retirement benefits (due to productiveness for being still able to work and not giving out benefits). Governments would probably make immortality mandatory because it's the cheapest option.
If immortality becomes available after max automation. Then we are living in a post scarcity society anyway. So the cost of the immortality in question would be effectivily 0.
You might be correct, but that isn't how it would start. It would start with giant layoffs here and there and how it would be similar to what we are dealing with when it comes to cheaper labor forces from foreign countries. If we don't have income or job to support our family, then things will turn to shit.
You are only thinking about technological progress in one area. In reality this isn't the case and there would be made great progress over multiple areas of science and technology.
Like we probably wouldn't have a democracy but a technocracy. An government AI calculating for max efficiency while maintaining human comfort and scientific progression as number 1 priority. (also things like full VR are not that unreasonable in this time span)
And what about the overpopulation? There always are other planets, but terraforming a planet takes a few hunderd years minimum and before that there would be only sparsely populated colonies. And even after that humanity would have to expand all the time to find the Lebensraum.
It's a problem like the chicken and the egg.
Do we reach post scarcity at the same time we get automated out of jobs?
Do we socially reach that point if we do have the efficiency in resource collection when humans are unemployable?
And if not what do we do?
>implying politicians would give up their power so easily
They would fight tooth and nail to stay in power. They can actively screw over the people that elect them, and still get massive amounts of money and power. Why would they care about the plebs?
I don't know where you live but we already have systems in place for this. It's called welfare. When more people get laid off the welfare system actually improves instead of collapsing. I've seen this as i've been welfare recipient in some crisis in the 90's. When there is a real crisis and people get hit you'll get financial support. Especially if the productivity is still being performed (automated in this case) Because basically there is no wealth loss in the world. It needs only to be given to you.
How more prosperous a society gets the less children they have. Most of the developed countries have declining birth rates and some even declining populations.
It would be a gradual and smooth transition. Like how we went from physical data to digital data. It's inevitable. It would probably start as simple calculative administrative bureaucratic AI. And gradually taking over more functions as time goes on.
I guarantee politicians would resist that transition.
They've resisted every other tech improvement because it would mean fewer people in the bureaucracies that are reliant on the government.
They come naturally to us, morality is a part of religion because they're an inherent part of humanity. Morals have been closely tied to religion for a very long time because they easily spread from person to person that way.
>This is what Christians actually believe
>Inbreeding leads to worse genetics
>By popular moral standing, intercourse with family members is a no-no
It has to be more based on the spread of culture in general. Religion just happens to be the best at spreading ideas around the world.
They might (and i don't think they will because it would benefit them in the first instance due to the government actually progressing and accomplishing something with AI in their party).
But even asuming they resist it with all they got. You can't win from machines. This is the lesson we learned since the industrial revolution. Someone else is going to implement it and "win". We don't have a 1 planet government so what if china decides that it will implement AI in it's government will the US really want to compromise for individual politicians power?. Doesn't even have to be china. It can be any government really. Since the productivity would fly through the roof. It would still be seen eather as a threat or as an example of how good it works.
They come from society, cultural values and what your parents teach you. Religion helps, yes, but it doesn't have to be organised.
Most developed countries have declining birth rates because people tend to focus more on getting stable source of income, earn some more money before they start planning and making a family. This comes from population being more educated and also not having to care so much about the old age in opposition to less educated and poorer countries where people want to have many children so that they take care of them in their old age. With immortality, there would be no declining populations, people would cease to die of old age which is most of deaths in developed countries. Eventually overpopulation would happen anyway.
>What are the characteristics of a modern day Nasserist?
They're gone now, aside from old men shaking their heads and talking about "the good old days," really. But his values would've been, like you said, nationalism, secularism, and, I guess, "common good." He wanted everyone to eat, go to school, etc.
> in opposition to less educated and poorer countries where people want to have many children so that they take care of them in their old age
>so that they take care of them in their old age
There is no old age to be taken care of with immortal people. And immortal people have all the time in the world to get educated. Yes you would have some uneducated poor people at the start. But they would develop eventually.
While I believe basic morals are inherent to and individual, they are heavily molded and changed by social factors, sometimes becoming completely different than one had initially.
>morals are a religious construct
>without religion there are no morals
I was talking about how it is now, without immortality. However the thought that everybody would eventually get educated is a hope that would not come true. Even now, with access to education easier than ever there is still pretty high percent of just plain stupid people. This way we come to conclusion that stupid people making stupid offsprings would eventually become majority of population and continue to spread. The question that arises is: Is immortality good for humanity in the long run?
Yeah this is where our beliefs is going to interfere with our discussion. As i'm a person that believes that most "dumb" "dudebro" people could be intelligent would they actually focus on education. But yeah this is a personal believe and not proven or disproven so this would not contribute at all. We can't know for sure if those people would make right or wrong choices in creating new offspring. So we can't go on this way in the discussion. The last question you could ask is: "What is overpopulation in a post scarcity society". When you don't live in absolute luxery?. When you have to share your house with 5 other people?. When you don't have enough food?.
Would you sake immortality for not wanting 5 other people sleeping in your room?. Immortality would be good for humanity in the long run IMO. Because what humans (and all life) essentially wants is to simply life. Keep existing. Our offspring is a sort of immortality 0.5: broke edition.
>Believing the lies of useless scientist
>Believing we will obtain immortality
>Believing religion isn't becoming popular again
Wow you fuckers have managed to prove yourselves to be the most idiotic board on 4chan with just one thread.
Word of advice; make sure you choose a career that you can use after you're done. Even if you think you're going to run the entire 20 years, it's best to choose something with a little leg to it.
Good luck, amigo. Every decision you make from this point on while reflect greatly in the next few years.
The worst part about this social censorship business is that it actually goes against these peoples other belief, which is that video games should strive to be art. If having a gay or whatever character in a game will make that character better than go ahead, but at least film only had to worry about violent content for a while, if you show women being oppressed in a game that takes place before the 1970s for the sake of historical accuracy, than you're a villain because you took liberties with some medieval monarchy system but not liberties with gender and race portrayal. If you ever showed a person naked or tackled the subject of rape but have not been raped in your life, then you will be called out.
I'm not trying to say that games need that stuff but it does hurt games as a credible medium when developers actually have to be scared of what they put in their games, in the fear that someone will overanalyze their product and decide that the whole thing is littered with thematic oppression and phallic imagery.
>le upboat if you were a NINETIES kid, amirite? only 90s kids will remeber this xD
Fuck off. The 90s were just as cynical and post-ironic and post-modern as the 00s and the 10s, if not more so. You only remember them differently because you learned about games through Nintendo Power instead of /v/ and watched Nickelodeon instead of HBO.
>morals are not a social construct
how can you even argue this
peoples morals vary fucking vastly based on where they are born and raised. thus, its based on the social norm of the local culture
90's journalism was more like marketing.
00's was somewhat decent because number of open events made acquiring information possible without sucking publisher's dick.
Nowadays, after publishers taken over huge events with EA inventions - closed audiences for people with "invitation" it went to shit again.
worldwide, but not all encompassing. There are literally small cultures that still exist and modern tech hasnt ruined yet that have morales that completely go against everything we expect. Theres two i can think of, one where its completely normal in this region to kidnap women as your wives and effectively rape them till they have stockholm syndrome. its not even considered wrong by the women before it happens, its just life. and then there was this other settlement they found where jacking off was considered a religious and spiritual ritual, and that you were not a man until you passed a test that was basically >jizz over some many feet of distance
they would come into their childrens mouths because they thought it had spirtual power
hell, cannibalism even isnt that unusual to practice
No, the first decade of the 21st century from start to finish was filled with generous reviews for shit games
It's so hard for a movie to get a decent rating but with video games it seems they all do
"problematic" and "toxic" are two words that instantaneously tag someone as having nothing but buzzwords coming out of their mouth. Nary an actual argument.
>Remember Columbine in the 90s,
Columbine was in 1999, so it's actually not very far deviated from 2001.
The .com crash also eroded the American psyche because the USA moved away from manufacturing. In order to thrive, the US needed to make information tech and entertainment profitable. So what happens?
Eurofaggots and Asians pirate our games, our films, and our applications. Life is great.
Pretty much this exactly. We have only 2 options:
>Super SJWs because 14 year olds browsing tumblr now who think they are transdolphin get to positions of voice
>the entire SJW movement is called out on its bullshit because people start taking a stand against an obvious hate movement
The latter can happen if the Quinnspiracy doesn't die down and snowballs into something else. If the editor in chief of Kotaku wrote a public apology, exposed and denounced what has been going on, and fired everyone who has an obvious agenda, it would be seen as a huge step not only for video game journalism, but for all journalism as someone is finally brave enough to say it like it is. It would only take one person extremely high up who is being paid off by SJWs to out the entire operation and start a chain reaction.
>U wot m8? The Isis aren't muslims, nor are the taliban, nor are any radical group that say they're whatever religion.
By your logic, the first Caliphate wasn't Islamic either.
You moderate Muslims make me only slightly less sick than I feel toward your radicals. Because you people enable the radicals through your support.
>inb4 Israeli shill loljew
I hate Israel just as much. At least, the Zionists who live there.
Dead kikes is the only way we can progress from here, unfortunately. They are waaay out of line these days.
ISIS was founded by Israel's Mossad.
Thanks based Snowden.
