Looks too much like Mother 3. I didn't like the darker vibe I got from Mother 3 compared to the carefree, innocent, and silly feeling of Earthbound or the grand, dreamlike feeling I got from Mother 1. Mother 3 just wasn't the Mother game I was looking for or even expected. I mean it's still a good game and all but it just doesn't feel like Mother "3". Kind of more like it's own game.

Who knows though? Maybe this will take Mother 3's darker atmosphere and give it a refreshing twist like Earthbound did with Mother 1's atmosphere. It could definitely be a huge hit with the fans if done right, so hey I'm not against Mother 4 at all. In fact I welcome it. And hey it could surprise me, maybe I'll like it lots.

Been playing Earthbound on my Wii U. It's been 10 years since I've played it. I finally got Paula but I felt like I had to grind a good bit getting her. I played Mothers 1+2, but not 3 yet.
Going to change that soon enough.

We'll have to see when it is released.
I'm sure the creators have worked very hard and tried to be as respectful to the official installments.
Especially because if it falls flat, Mother fans will probably go nuts over it.
However, the music, visual style, and presentation (so far) suggests that it'll be a really good "installment".

I don't mind that it's not Itoi making it, even he said that he wants to experience the next Mother game "as the player".

Mother 4 is called Mother 4 because a dumb 15-year-old came up with the name. The project became popular with the name "Mother 4" so the new team who replaced the dumb 15-year-old decided to keep the name to avoid alienating the fans who were there since the beginning. People caused a shitstorm regarding the name, and the team decided that changing the name would be "admitting defeat," kinda like "Ha ha you're so pathetic, you can't even stick up for your own decisions." The dev team was supposed to write up a blog post saying this but haven't done it yet which blows my fucking mind.
BTW the name would be "The Other 4" if Nintendo decides to shut down the project.

If you want the Mother/Earthbound ambience, don't dwell so much in worldbuilding. Make it introspective. Make it about the characters.

She sets Travis on fire and betrays the team after becoming possessed by the last boss which looks like a space fish. The main villain is trying to get all of the space fish and you fight the last one. There is a twist resembling a plot event in Durarara!!
