>3 captain mechanics
>Map on gamepad is win
Yeah i like it.
But i wish it was longer, the missions are really fun but they squeeze your balls too hard.
I wish there was a more relaxed mode like in 2.
I really, REALLY think the WiiU should get at least one last pikmin game that is the definitive one and has all the good things of the previous games including a sort of "free mode" with no pressure.
But it won't happen unfortunately.
I think th efruit mechanic was brilliant. It was a perfect balance between tension and relaxation.
Plsu those fruits look so realistic
Can we talk about how the local multiplayer is the best fucking thing ever
Too bad not many of my friends are interested in playing it with me
>tfw opponent is about to win the game by carrying the last object to their onion
>tfw you bomb-kill the pikmin on their way
>they squeeze your balls too hard.
this is my major complaint as well. Even the early missions had me sweating like a maniac. Still fun just, not very relaxing. The pace is at odds with the visuals. Which is interesting I suppose,
Yes. It has the most photorealistic fruits ever.
Let's talk instead about how shitty it is compared to Pikmin 2
>no camera zoom
>reinstates the time limit, but makes it lenient enough that it's never actually a pressing concern, and instead a constant annoyance to keep in mind that prevents you from just enjoying the world at your own pace
>no camera zoom
I really liked it.
But I preferred the feel of 2 more I think.
It was a bit more relaxed and the multi level dungeons where pretty fun.
This one felt like they where trying to harken back to what made 1 a challenging experience without chasing away the people who liked 2.
>This one felt like they where trying to harken back to what made 1 a challenging experience without chasing away the people who liked 2
That's why IMO is the best of the 3. It combines both the pressure of the first one without losing the most comfy feeling of 2.
Fruit mechanic was perfect and I hop it returned in a future Pikmin.
>Plz let it be a future Pikmin
Actually Mission Mode uses Purples and Whites quite a lot. Whites are needed for a lot of transportation bits and there's plenty of fruit that rely on Purples to carry.
Duuuuude. I bought a fruit blender after finishing Pikmin 3. I'm not kidding.
I also love how Nintendo apparently is behind the times in graphics yet somehow managed to create something so photorealistic it could fool someone to think it's a real photo of a fruit.
They're the same thing as the GCN versions, but with pointer control.
It actually works really well, but it tires my wrist a bit. You also get a little bit more range with it than the GCN controls.
You know fucking what?
I bought one too after finishing Pikmin 3
Pic related, it's pretty good and I use it almost daily
>Wii mote controls is actually better than standard
Totally awesome, and absolutely worth playing over the originals. Problem is they are fairly rare if you want legit copies.
It's actually just for pointing, which makes aiming as quick and almost as easy as using a mouse. It's absolutely superior to standard. There isn't any waggling or other nonsense.
I don't want to point, i want to hold a controller.
I think the wiimotes are inferior to any other controller simply for the fact that you even have to point.
I brought a WiiU JUST because motion controls aren't shoved in your face.
I completely hate motion controls of any kind, i hate holding wiimotes, i think they're awful in every possible way, i jut want a normal controller and the WiiU gave me just that.
its aight but I dislike how easy everything is
they dont even try to surprise you anymore, they warn you about everything
like half the fun of pikmin was being trolled by some of the enemies
and in pikmin 2 they got rid of that
also the game is too short, I'm bored of it at 40 ish hours.
Well they did balance Purple Pikmin by limiting them to Mission mode, when you're limited by such a strict time frame they're(and also white Pikmin) are balanced.
Though I think they might have nerfed their abilities as well since they didn't seem to be as good in combat as I remember.
They should also add the "Go Here!" function for Pikmin 2 if they do that. So Louie or the President aren't dead weight or just an extra health bar outside of a few situations.
>mfw getting platinums with my sister
>tfw can't get them on my own
Pikmin 4 ideas.
Space Pirates that also use Pikmin.
Everyone on Hocotate learns that PNF-404 is full of treasure, you have to compete with them to collect enough treasure. Story mode is a combination of Pikmin 2 and 3, Mission Mode is you battling against other computer-controlled Pikmin captains over the treasure in the area.
That'd be fun and terrifying. Imagine an open area entirely filled with Spotty Bulbear and their minions.
What was the music like in Pikmin 3?
I really liked the songs in the previous games, cave music in Pikmin 2 was always cool and also this:
I got an idea right
>Louie got left on the planet at the end of 3
>days ending, he gotta find a safe place to hide or he's fucked
>too late, it gets dark and he stumbles on to a Bulborb nest as they are waking up from nocturnal sleep
>Louie thinks he's fucked but for some reason they don't attack him
>turns out it's the Bulbmin from Pikmin 2 grown up and they remember him
>command fully grown Bulbmin against other deadly creatures to survive the night
I've platinum'd some of them.
Fucking fortress of festivity though.
I know. It's frustrating but it's fun. I'm just not that good at managing.
What I've never figured out is how Ai no Uta, a song made specifically for the game that makes no sense out of context of the game, managed to sell more copies as a single than the actual game did.
When you see the lime by the nearest wall/pool, throw two captains up there and then throw one of them to the group of purples, getting the purples early saves you so much time since they can carry any fruit other then bananas by selves.
Also when you get the flying Pikmin, use them to gather the two nearest gold piles before you use them to open the gate.
>dat final level
>dat final boss
i was seriously not expecting that. That shit was really fun.
>Descending down the inside of a tree stump while being chased by the boss, while escorting olimar and solving puzzles
>dat final showdown
>dat hinting at pikmin 4 with another rocket crash landing while the other captains take off
> that part where Louie jacks all your juice and you gotta scrounge up as much fruit as you can to replenish your stock
When the plot was hinting that something bad had happened to Olimar, I was actually expecting the big reveal to have Olimar be in Pikmin-Olimar form. It would've been one hell of a twist, and a pretty ballsy move from Nintendo
>tfw Hocotate Ship is dead
Goodnight, sweet prince
there's literally fruit on the way to the boss where louie is, it ain't that bad man, just get the one kiwi by the berry plant and crab and the fruit in the rock by the crab and it'll be ok
I tried to do a boss-fruit only run, and I would be able to do it if were not for that part. I just can't get the blues, open the path to the mireclops, then fight and beat it, and finally carry its fruit and Louie back to the ship all in one day.
>First attempt is a Pikmin massacre
>Realize what I must do
>Bring 15 blues, 15 rocks, and 70 winged
>Have one captain go for the feet with the Blues
>Use the next captain to break the crystal
>Everytime I get the fucker stunned use Spicy Spray and charge with Winged
Not a single casualty. Fuck you Mireclops.
Once you play the game a single time the bosses are real easy to 0 death. Wish more bosses had minions like the Pleseoth had.
>most enemies are absent
>characters feel slower and clunkier
>can't punch enemies for shit
>not as many upgrades
>no c stick swarming
>only 6 bosses
I love Pikmin 3, but there's a reason I've only played through it twice
also that fucking juice strains so slowly holy shit the framerate even drops
fuck that guy, I lost so many pikmin because the captains get knocked down for like 5 fucking seconds in this game
Second playthrough massacre was very satisfying though
That was the first Pikmin boss that took me two days. I didn't bring any rock Pikmin because I couldn't handle them drowning all the time.
All I had were Pinks and Blues and boy are those dudes weak
I actually thought it was the weakest Pikmin yet. I didn't really enjoy the maps and some of the fruit relied on using the wiimote, and since I was using the pad it became tough as shit.
I think the time/stress element quickly became less overbearing after about 5 days and then you stockpiled fruit like no ones business. Pikmin 1 balanced it nicely in comparison.
The last boss was a pain in the dick and honestly I hated that whole level.
dune boss and crystal catepillar were the best bosses tho
>some of the fruit relied on using the wiimote
What? I only used the gamepad and didn't have trouble getting any of the fruit.
Except that one hanging from a branch in Tropical Wilds after the rising blocks puzzle.
I can do all of the other bosses just fine, but the issue is Louie takes all of your juice so it doesn't matter what your stockpile is. You also can't leave the area right away to get any boss fruit you might have left behind in other areas because you have no juice for the night. I suppose I could leave the crawmad's fruit behind and grab it right away after Louie's thievery, but then that means I only get one day each for the crawmad and the phosbat, as that's as far as the beginning juice will go. I'm just not that good.
I'm not that good, either, but the crawmad and phosbats are the ones that I had in mind when I said they were the most accessible to do in one day. It takes a little patience and practice but they're definitely doable. I haven't seen any 2.0 speedruns yet, I should look some up.
Not really. It's much more complex and multitasking, while in NL is basically touch the enemies until they die.
The controls are different since you move both the captain and the pointer, but I didn't have a problem with NL iN the first place.
Game is amazing, go for it.
>Get Pikmin 3 with Mario Kart code
>Finish the tutorial
>A lot of Pikmin die at a boss
>Never play again because of anxiety of losing more Pikmin
10/10 charming as fuck.
>tfw you lose enough Pikmin you get Charlie's log about honoring the fallen Pikmin
I think it only takes about 100 Pikmin loss to get it, but damn.
>mfw those rats in the snow world that grab pikmin by the head and legs and chew on their bodies
Lel. In the first one, I would just throw all of them at the last boss. I killed them all and left the planet forever. Until my fucking boss wanted me to use them as slave labor.
>Notice one leg is getting red
>Think that I need to do that on all the legs before it falls
>All the feet are red, anytime now
>Get my pikmin under QM to get across other feet, looks like the red is fading away
>STEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE gets in the last hit
In the second run, I figured out hat I as suppose to do. I felt like a complete retard. Fuck you Louie, you piece of shit.
>five seconds remain
>call all the Pikmin
>"what? where could it possibly--"
>rock pikmin that got blown the fuck out by a boss and is on top of a cliff at the other side of a map
>first time playing pikmin 1
>run into the water with like 100 red pikmin
>didn't know water was dangerous to them
>panic as i watch 60 of them drown
Not him but i just got really tired of the whole last part of the game, it was just really tiresome and irritating to try and escape the golden wraith while trying to create a path, especially when you spend multiple days doing it
Pikmin 3 is the best one because not only are the mechanics the most polished, but because it's entirely about self imposed challenge. You can play it as casually as you want, which in your case seems to be very much so.
Make Brittany run around in circles while you build your path. You never actually need 3 captains. This way you can take one day to build the path, get Olimar out and return the next day to fight the wraith.
did you know zoe quinn (developer of depression quest) chatead on her BF with five guys? and then her BF posted all of the info on his tumblr?
Did you know that if you make a thread about this in /pol/ or /v/ it gets deleted?
Who here thinks that zoe slept with the 4chan MOD who is deleting everything???
REMEMBER! FIVE GUYS! BURGERS AND FRIES
>Run far ahead of wraith
>Let him take olimar
>Continue to carve path as he takes olimar away
>Day ends when olimar is taken out of the tree
>Go back next day
>All the enemies you killed are still dead and all the work you did is still there
>Run even further into tree before letting Olimar be taken again
>Continue to carve the path
>Finish path on second day
>Third day all you have to do is direct the captain leading the pikmin carrying olimar to run to the end of the path
Damn that was hard and stressful.
I got in this series thanks to Dolphin emulator and I was pretty much blown away from Pikmin, finished it in 26 days and losing like 50% of my Pikmin ever sprouted on first playthrough and did a second one immediactly after and finished in 16 days losing about 10% of my Pikmin.
Now I'm playing 2 and dungeons and more types of Pikmins are ton of fun, but I sorta miss 1's atmosphere and sense of impendent time limit and I liked the above ground areas a bit more. I guess I'll buy a WiiU+Pikmin 3 eventually to thanks Shiggy.
Also, am I supposed to be losing a ton of Pikmin on dungeon bosses? Man-at-Legs killed of like 50 of my Pikmin and the Mother Bulblax with the bulborb larvas killed like 70, mostly with the larvas, and I had the exactly 15 Pikmins required to get the treasure, 12 of which were Bulbmins.
that's basically what i did though
never said it was hard, i said it was annoying and tiresome, i just didn't enjoy it
i love everything else about the game though, and the bossfight itself was pretty aight, but the whole escort thing was just poopy
Oh cool, i didn't know that, i just started a new run so i'll try that once i get to the last boss again
I'm 5/7 on the ones that are free. I'll get the DLC ones... someday. Battle Enemies, though, that's a whole 'nother story.
Pikmin games will always kick your ass on the first playthrough. Feel free to restart as much as you want to minimize losses, since dungeons have an autosave feature.
I'm nowhere close. I think I've only played the first two missions. Right now, I'm playing through the main game a second time. I didn't grab all the fruit the first time, and would like to see how I do now that I'm somewhat familiar with the maps.
I JUST got a platinum medal on the third Enemy stage. They're a lot harder than the Fruit ones because you actually have to be there to oversee the fight, usually. Once you bolster the pikmin numbers you can usually just have them swarm an enemy and then switch to another captain.
I still think it's unfair as fuck to have a fucking baldy long legs in the FIRST mission ROAMING THE ENTIRE MAP.
I got so much use out of Pikmin 3. Easily my most worthwhile Wii U game. Downloaded all the DLC and played 'em all to death, though I find it impossible to get all the platnium medals.
Mind you, I'm really hoping Conduit 3 or The Grinder haven't been cancelled. make an appearance soon. The console is so starved for a good new FPS, it's getting really annoying.
Yes. Well, it's one way. Get the Yellow pikmin to carry the bombs, then toss them up on a ledge as the long legs passes by, and it'll deal tons of damage to it and get rid of the hair, then just spam yellow pikmin at the head till it ded.
Bulborbs are relatively easy to kill with a swarm of like, 20-30 red pikmin.
Are rock pikmin completely useless against dirt walls?
I figured as much. That's good to know, though, for day 2.
There is already something kind of like that on Hocotate. Oimar's family has a pet thing
I cheesed it with like 60 flying Pikmin. But yeah dat first time.
I actually didn't have many, if any, pikmin drown against that boss. Mainly because I had a bunch of blues (since I used them to get to that point) and once I saw the area, just went in with blue and stone pikmin. I switched over to a full blue set on the next day, too.
I had a lot of pikmin get eaten by the tongue, though.
Listen up nerds
>bring a bunch of Rock pikmin
>swarm the foot (preferably use a spray too)
>break the crystal
>run the fuck away and come back with 100 flying pikmin
>knock it down again
>swarm the bulb
>call them back after a certain amount of time
>when the tongue starts to circle, run around the mouth in the same direction as the tongue to avoid it
>while running about on the mouth keep throwing Pikmin on the bulb
>this confuses the AI and it will sit in the ground for a lot longer
>even when it starts to get up stay on top and keep throwing Pikmin until you slip off
this kills the mireclops
>tfw the Snagret was a formidable beast ready to fuck you up anytime
>in Pikmin 3 there is only a single one
>swarm it with flying pikmin
>it dies so easily it might as well hop into the onion itself
>it never respawns after that
No, I saw it happen my first playthrough. I had Brittany and Olimar stand in the pool of water while I had Alph and Charlie split up and do their business. Since it can't go into water and get Olimar, it would come after whoever I was in control of. I specially had to switch to one captain to bait it away from another captain in order to open a safe path. It reminded me a lot of the bloyster boss in 2.
I wish there was a bundle with Pimin 3.
Smash and Pikmin 3 are the reasons I want a Wii U. Mario Kart is fun too but fuck that, any way to get it with Pikmin 3? Cant find a bundle.
You should've bought the MK8 bundle and got Pikmin 3 as your free game.
If you are in the U.S./Canada, look up a refurbished bundle from the Nintendo website and just buy Pikmin 3 as well. Under $300 even with additional cables and controller.
This is way to short I was able to do a no Pikmin death 100% fruit run in 2 days. That being said it's one of the most amazing games I've played this generation and I wish I had a little Brittany I could carry around with my in my pocket.
I think it took me something like 32 days to beat the game in my first run. That doesn't seem too bad, especially if you weren't used to managing pikmin from the previous games.
You aren't a true captain until you platinum'd all the mission's
pic related my platinums
Does Olimar get his lovely Dolphin back in Pikmin 3?
for some reason whenever I start getting to the missions where I have to split up my team I become so hopeless trying to figure out what pikmin/how many to send with each person.
I feel like I'll mess up and get too many pikmin killed and I can't deal with that.
help! Maybe I should play with a guide?
Well, I will say that you do find the Dolphin in Pikmin 3. Or at least a similar ship; not sure if it was specificall the Dolphin.
Why are you splitting up your team when going into an unfamiliar part of the map?
I generally just grab 15 of each type, and march off with everyone. If there is something I want another person to do, then it's usually something that I'm familiar with and so I'll grab the pikmin required for that job. Mostly this is just gathering berries for the pikmin-boosting juices, and so five pikmin with someone to watch them is usually just fine.
I always hate it when I misplan something and a large number of pikmin die. I'm not quite sure which is worse: accidentally drowning a bunch because they carried something into the water, or just something stupid like having them walk into fire. Or just loosing track of which pikmin I have and accidentally pitching the wrong ones at an enemy: typically because I ran out of reds against a fire enemy, ran out of blues when trying to hit something over the water, etc.
And then, there is assuming a route is clear when an enemy has respawned in it. "Oh, those pikmin should be fine! I'll just let them walk back safely and take care of this... what do you mean pikmin are dying?!"
Beat only Pikmin 1. This is much better by far. It feels tighter and it's 100% comfier. I was really impressed considering the first trailers didn't make the graphics look too hot.
I could just go in fps mode and take snapshots all day. Bingo battles are always fun as hell with the boulder items. Also, best looking fruit in vidya period.
>That feel when in a walless cave and a blowhog or cannon beetle blows your Pikmins in the abyss
>That feel when you blow up your entire squad with bomb rocks by accident
>That feel when you fuck up for whatever reason and Pikmins fall into the water wih no way out
>That feel when you leave a group of Pikmin idle and a roaming enemy exterminates them all
>That feel when a boss unexpectedly rolls over 80% of your group
>That feel when you blow up your entire squad with bomb rocks by accident
Fuck, thanks for reminding me about that.
>all those times I accidentally chucked a bomb pikmin at a wall with most of my group tearing it down
>desperately try to whistle to bring them all back
>bomb goes off
>80 pikmin dead
>Well at least the wall is down now...
post yfw you first saw the Quaggled Mirclops tongue.
I really wish this game had dungeons and c-stick swarming. Tapping the dismiss button to get them to all attack is nowhere near as effective since it requires me to be right next to an enemy
You can lock onto an enemy, then press B.
But I agree. The c-stick controls were great, and I am very much disappointed in losing them in Pikmin 3. They were very good for swarming, for getting pikmin out of the way of something, and for in general moving around easily. I can't count the number of times I've been running around an enemy, and just been frustrated because my large group of pikmin just keeps trailing behind me and standing in the way of an attack.
Other than that, I didn't much like the caves and so I don't mind them being gone.
>speed running pikmin 1 with friends to see who can get the fastest time
>Forest Navel, busting down the big black wall blocking the rock wall to deadly long legs
>time is ticking down, try to throw the yellows I have with bombs over the tiny remains of the wall and to bomb the rock wall over and save time
>they land over the wall
>and throw the bombs at the wall that the other 90 pikmin are destroying
>wall gets destroyed nano seconds before the first bomb would hit
>3 bombs perfectly carpet bomb my entire pikmin group
>I have just enough time to see 80 pikmin souls crying in anguish before Olimar retreats in shame
>the four dickbags with the bombs got left after dark
I need a drink
>Yellows have a different trajectory so I often throw them behind half demolished walls and they blow up inevitably
Also happened one time
>have to demolish another one of Forest Navel's rock walls
>stockpile about 8-10 yellows with bombs a bit far from the wall to throw bombs one at time safely because fuck bomb accidents
>throw one Pikmin, it lays the bomb and everything's ok
>then right before it goes off I throw another one
>the thrown midair Pikmin carrying the second bomb is close enough to both the detonating bomb and the stockpile
>this produces a chain reaction of colossal proportions that blows up all the bombs and kills roughly all my Pikmins
>my face when
>Nintendo and produce companies are conspiring to make people healthier by eating more fruit
4 might have c-stick controls again. Maybe the team from 3 just don't have the same technology Olimar did. I'm sure Nintendo is smart enough to realize it's more useful than a camera stick.
Ha! It reminds me of something that happened once:
>find the Scornet but it's too late to fight, the counter starts
>leave the gamepad while the count goes on
>decide to grab it when it's about to end
>accidentally press B and they all disband
>screen fades away
>100 pikmin lost out of pure idiocy
And that was a good night for Bulbears.
>Nintendo wants you to be healthy so you live longer and have many kids.
>In that way you will keep buying nintendo products for a longer time
>you've been playing for too long
>why don't you go for a walk?
>Nintendo still makes games that require you to pay attention and think in order to succeed instead of pandering press X to win crap
>has brain training stuff too, even
>Nintendo wants consumers young and old to be mentally healthy too
I'm ok with this.
Lets compare how Pikmin 2 was shit compared to Pikmin 1
>no time limit because wahh I feel pressured
>cut and paste dungeons with horrible aesthetics
>no more interesting captain's logs
>unbalanced af pikmin
>introduction of comedic relief character
Don't forget the premise of the story was less interesting as well. In Pikmin 1 you had crashed landed and were fighting for your own survival while in Pikmin 2 you were scavenging for money to save your company because of Louie. While I understand that Louie is supposed to be at least partially unlikable, that doesn't change the fact that the story suffered from it. At least Pikmin 3's story had an element of mystery to it.
>no time limit
what are you talking, it has day/night cycle
it's a lot more challenging, the variety of different enemies, the really hard caves
pretty sure there are, but we also get something better piklopedia
Who would be stupid enough to have all their Pikmin die like that?
*resets Wii U*
Like seriously how can you even let that happen?
No one has to know...U-uh I mean they never died if it never happened...r-right? I'm sorry...
Let's compare why 2 is the best of the 3.
>2 sets of journals for both
>most content in general, loads of bosses
>best challenge mode with a good difficulty curve and lots of levels
>turning off the game without saving erases all your pikmin
2 had the gatling groinks (mortar shooting frogs that can and will revive themselves if you don't destroy the corpse) and the man-at-legs.(mechanical spider). Also I guess the titan dweevil which was covered in robotic armor/weapons.
>turning off without saving spawns a Smoky Progg at the landing site
You must have been very upset by all the product placement in that game.
I think pikmin 2 has the best story mode and offers additional challenges
I think pikmin 3 has a decent story mode but excels mostly in the mission modes, shit is cash
Pikmin 1 has a great story mode, but a bit short and no extra content
Watched all 4 seasons on netflix over the past 2 weeks. Fucking fantastic show.
>mfw he actually was stacking rocks.
I feel like it could've been longer, it could've used more enemies, it could've used more bosses, it could've used more upgrade items, it could have used a more interesting collectible than fruit (the random objects from the second game, with their descriptions and everything, were perfect), and it could've used a story co-op mode.
Other than that, a great game.
I think in 1 all the pieces come together perfectly. They really nailed the "you are stuck on an alien planet; survive" thing. Especially with the logs at the end of the day.
I think 2 sort of trivialized how hardcore the planet is supposed to be. Despite having tons of content that expands on the concept in interesting ways, I thought a lot was overreaching. In 1, each enemy was unique in appearance, had different mechanics, and fit with the world. In 2, you have shit like the little spiders, where they're specialized to the pikmins' resistances and the Gatling Groink which doesn't fit the world, like >>258434973 said.
I think 3 returns to form like 1, while keeping good elements of 2: multiple captains, sort-of caves, etc. It also makes excellent use of the Wii U hardware. It's way too short though, it's too linear, and they overdid the "eldritch horror" thing with the bosses.
Are you guys sure Pikmin 3 is too short? Couldn't it just be that it's the third game you're playing? I also found it "too short", but I've seen so many comments in places like miiverse from new players that are taking forever to beat it and even more to get all the fruit.
I didn't find it too short. Especially with replaying it now a second time, I'm finding that it does take awhile to get through and it's satisfying to do so. That, combined with challenge missions, makes me quite happy with the game.
Me, too. I think this game is easily the best to replay with how the files work, you can just go back to any day and fix your mistakes instead of starting a new game. And on second playthroughs, you get all the map from the get go and can skip cutscenes.
Let's compare how Pikmin 1 was shit compared to Super Mario 128
Why no DLC? They finished making the game, released it, and then spent 2 months creating more levels to give to teh players for a fucking affordable price. You have to be some kind of retard to think the DLC was a hassle to buy.
I just want to cuddle him
after sucking his cock clean.
I think some people just prefer more relaxing games and other prefer games with a fair difficulty curve and challenge. I think a game is inherently satisfying to play if its challenging but fair.
I beat pikmin 3 in 20 days collecting all the fruit, I've platinumd every mission mode in battle enemies and collect treasure.
I think I got the skill to beat somethin in a time limit
>>implying Pikmin 1 is hard
If Pikmin 1 was your first Pikmin game, it should've been challenging as fuck. If you found it easy, but found 2 hard, then I don't know what to say.
Pikmin 1 had 30 ship parts to collect and ~30 enemies in 5 levels. 5 challenge levels.
Pikmin 2 had 201 treasures to collect and ~70 enemies in 4 levels and 14 caves. 30 challenge levels. 10 battle levels.
Pikmin 3 had 30 unique fruits (66 total) to collect and ~50 enemies in 5 levels. 14 challenge levels (30 with DLC). 12 bingo battle levels.
I can translate this into more useful numbers.
Reward to Challenge Ratio: divide number of collectables by number of enemies (RtCR).
3) 0.6 or 1.3, averaging to 1.0 (depends if you count repeats of fruits)
1 -> 2) almost 200% increase
2 -> 3) decrease of about 45%, 60%, or 80% depending how you count fruit
Reward to Space Ratio: divide number of collectables by number of areas. This is mostly important with Pikmin 2, since I'll count each cave as 1 area (RtSR).
3) 6.0 or 13.2, avg. 9.6
1 -> 2) almost 100% increase
2 -> 3) decrease of about 46% or 14%, or increase of 18%, depends how you count fruit.
What I take from this is that Pikmin 2 clearly had more content, but it was less dense.
By this I mean 2 had the least variation in the enemies you would fight (high RtCR) relative to the rewards you would get. Pikmin 2 does dole out treasures more often than 1 doles parts or 3 doles fruit, however. To compensate, let's factor in the RtSR.
RtSR / RtCR or creatures divided by space is challenge per space (CpS), which indicates how "spread out" the unique combat content is.
1 -> 2) decrease of 35%
2 -> 3) increase of 160%
1 -> 3) increase of 67%
This bears out what I felt was apparent from playing the games. Pikmin 2 spreads its new content pretty thin compared to 1, and 3 is a big jump in the "density" of content.
Note: environmental hazards and emergent challenge from matching different enemies in a location are not accounted for here and are a critical component of Pikmin 2.
Also Note: derived numbers are based only on the story modes.
Pikmin 4 when? I hope we won't have to wait 2 more console cycles. I'd also like to see a spinoff on a handheld sometime.
>3DS augmented reality with pikmin running around on your desk
You know you'd like it.
Each time my friend and I hang out, we try to platinum rank a new mission. It's really fun being tackled that way, a nice amount of thought put into planning and using every second of your time. The right amount of really hard but not impossible seeming.
pikmin 3 didn't even sell a million copies. do you think they'll even bother with another
I know making pikmin games brings joy to miyamoto just watch videos of him explaining shit about it, like at that one e3 and bunch of other videos
And then the maps are platinumd in coop, but not in single player.
I love the shit out of this game but I've gotten up to the last area and have lost all interest in playing it. The level is so fucking tense and different from the rest of the game that I always start it and end up freaking out a couple minutes in. It's not that i find it hard, it just makes me super uncomfortable. Am I retarded or did anyone else get this?
>pikmin 3 didn't even sell a million copies
I didn't believe you until I looked it up. Brb buying the DLC.
you just gotta have brittany distract the blob while your other guys go do stuff and pave a path to get out
it's easy just to switch to map and have her walk somewhere
then when your guys give you a warning the thing is getting close to brittany, go back to map and make her move somewhere else then switch back and continue on
bit tedious but that's best strat
It's supposed to feel uncomfortable. If you're having trouble, you can use some blues to drag Olimar under some water where the boss can't go and send Brittany running around in circles to distract it.
No, that sounds exactly like how the player should feel. But I'll give you a super easy trick that will make your life a lot easier.
At the beginning, have Brittany run around in circles between the area with the butterflies and the area with the red bulborbs, with ten Pikmin carrying Olimar. Then, have your other two captain clear the rest of the dungeon. You can clear the entire dungeon in a day this way and never have to fight the plasm wraith on your way. Make sure you get Olimar out by the end of the day, though, otherwise you'll lose time having to carry him at the beginning of the next one. If you can't make it in a day, make sure you clear the shortcuts, at least.
First Pikmin is probably the most mature game Nintendo has ever made. The other two games are great and may be even better games than the first one but I feel the first one is just more "special" I suppose.
What are some new types of enemy attacks? We already have:
katamari-ing into a big ball of pikmin that turns into an enemy you have to fight
changing pikmin type (like a candypop bud) mid-combat so they die from environmental hazards
rapid aging (if they're leaf or bud, they mature up to flower) where they lose the petals and wilt
Yes, I was excited to see what the purple suit guy would be like. He looked like he'd be my favorite.
I'm guessing his place in the game was replaced with Louie.
>Tall and thin, looks like kind of a moron
>He was going to be Dilkington
>was going to make inane comments on everything
>was going to complain about the lack of amenities on the alien planet
double plat is much more satisfying honestly. and much more fun. ofc it is difficult to find a partner that is open to it though
>mfw the new planet layout is based on actual science and isn't just a random reordering of the continents
Losing Pikmin so casually. Can't stand it.
That's some dedication. I wish him luck, but I can't watch that stuff.
Was my first pikmin game and it really is just amazing. I really liked the touch screen controls that were apparently added in later so most people didn't get to use them.
Really is a comfy game, and then you accidently lose 50 pikmin and you just feel guilty.
That pic makes me want to see pikmin towers like how acrobats/cheerleaders do as a mechanic in the game.
>need to form a wall of purples to hold back a creature from attacking a weak point
Shit, just imagine using pikmin to build stuff like what some ants do.
Maybe there could be a new type that does this or does it better than the others.
No you don't understand. I have it and beat it, but I got it as a free game with Mario Kart 8. I strategically waited so I'd have to pay less, but now I feel partially responsible for the games sales.
>In a game where Koppaites and Hootatians fight over territory in the new discovered land
>There is resources, treasures, and lives at stake
>The only one who can purge the world of such travesty
I actually want to go out and buy a copy when the price drops. Pikmin 3 is easily one of the best games I've played recently, and I'd like a physical copy. I just don't want to spend $60 on it.
Characteristic: Very slender and tall.
How to use them: Draw from point A to B while holding one.
(OBS: Captains and other Pikmin can climb up to unreachable places by climbing Acro Pikmin.)
>Alph mentions family, that he has at least 12 brothers and an older sister
>Brittany mentions an aunt several times in her notes
>Charlie mentions no blood relatives
>yfw Pikmin 4 has Louie as the last boss who was planning to rule the galaxy using the most fearsome monsters in Earth (Pikmin's planet)
>he was just pretending to be retarded
would you buy?
>playing through story mode once
you're suppose to play it again and do it faster and faster and see how few days you can complete, i've played story mode 3 times so far and my best time is 20 days so far all fruit of course.
>a bunch of pikmin fall into the water
>they group together and hang onto each other
>you can go downstream and collect the pikmin that weren't part of the bottom layer, and thus survived
I recommend the other 2. They're available for the Wii, so you can also play them on the Wii U. I'd definitely recommend the Wii control versions in general, too. The pointer helps a ton for aiming. Each game is deliberately a different experience, sort of like Mario Kart. They each take a somewhat different approach. I'd say play 1 and then 2.
Cyan Pikmin would be great in a game where you can actually explore at night. They could be bio-luminescent, and help to light up dark caves that you would others have trouble seeing in.
New Species for Pikmin 4 are Green and Orange.
Green have barbed fingers and can't be shaken off by enemies they are also the best diggers and will get stuck on wooly/furry enemies
Orange are fat and bounce when thrown additionally they float on water and they can glow in the dark.
>sequel based on the bad ending of Pikmin 1
>you play as Olimin
>lead a resistance against the Koppaites who come to colonize PNF-404 after the events of alterate-timeline Pikmin 3
>Hocotatian economy in ruins since Olimar didn't collect treasure for them
>Hocotatians become nomadic space pirates and occasionally land on the planet
>you have to destroy them all so they don't return with stories of the planet's bounty
I'd say just use greens, give them the ability to not be shaken off, and allow them to use their barbs to build bridges and towers. Nothing major, but a line across some water or up a ledge for progress.
>by the end of the game, you'll have an entire 100 min squad of converted Koppaites and Hocotatians
Yes. Especially since 3 has a sequel hook anyway and Louie got left behind on the planet. I'd actually prefer an interquel that takes place during pikmin 2, where you play as Koppaites or other non-Hocotatians and keep running into Louie commanding the planet's monsters and culminates with them trapping him on the titan dweevil.
Pikmin 4, really? I could've sworn I read somewhere that Miyamoto always intended for Pikmin to be a trilogy (though I can't seem to find where), and it's sales don't exactly denote a sequel, either.
Aren't they immune to being stabbed? The Wraith can't stab them with its arms, and so you can just keep throwing them and calling them back for damage. I just used a bunch of reds against it, and so didn't even try rock pikmin.
Towards the end, though, where it's throwing out elemental attacks, they might not be that great.
I'm not sure what one extra sale could do for it, it's not like everyone who used the same method to obtain the game feel the guilt they rightly should for cheating the game of a sale. Which is a real shame.
>space pirate Hocotatians have weapons and pose a serious threat despite being small
>their ships are equipped with weapons as well and put up a serious fight
>Hocotatians can get into their ships and use mounted turrets, like the gattling groink or man-at-legs
>If you fail to destroy a Hocotatian ship or kill all of its crew, they'll fly back to space
>Hocotatians who land in the future can use ships left behind by other Hocotatians if you didn't destroy them
>Hocotatians you fail to kill will make camps and join with new arrivals or take their ship if they get the chance
>the game tracks Hocotatians living on the planet
>Hocotatians who escape come back with more
>this is a vicious cycle
>one of the game's endings is apocalypse by Hocotatian invasion
>walking in tropical wilds with my pikmine horde
>a bunch of lava slugs some pikmins are carrying bombs
>kill them with red pikmins
>walk pass them
>suddenly a lot of pikmins dying
>realize the little flames triggered the bombs and exploded instantly
What I did was had a captain distract him while the other took out a specific core with the other Pikmin. This was near the end, though. Sometimes I'd get lucky and he'd spawn two crystal cores.
This is the key. Also, nintendo isn't stupid and is aware of how many copies people got as part of a promotional deal. Pikmin 3 was only available with Mario Kart 8 because they thought it wasn't popular enough to impact sales. I imagine they won't put it in the same tier as nintendoland or wii fit u for the next installment.
Eh, every vote counts. I mean 90% of people who do a pay what you want scheme don't pay anything, but the 10% who do are the ones who are giving all the support.
I already bought Pikmin 1 and 2 twice each when the Wii Play Control versions came out.
It's the shadow cast over the Valley of Repose in Pikmin 2.
I did that once. I was really young and I couldn't beat the game, so I just got tired of it and decided to see what'd happen if I just did nothing. It was the first time a video game made me feel sad.
