Depends on what you're after.
Platinum is brimming with content and is really one of the best games if you're a fan of Pokemon as a whole.
B/W are pretty much a "fresh start" by giving you an entirely new but familiar selection, making you pick six bros and learn it from scratch. More fun than Platinum if you're getting back into the series or just sick of the usual Zubats and Magikarps and Pikachus. I ended up with more bros out of there than any other generation.
No real wrong answer with either, just know that your starter choices are very subpar if you go with the latter. I'd say ditch them when you find a suitable replacement.

Your trek through Johto was the most anti-adventure feeling, though, and was in the smallest region and against the shittiest antagonistic team. Kanto didn't feel very right after the amazement that you could go to it wore off. Though it had the best rival, who actually developed as a fucking character (getting a Crobat was the most obvious sign), but Sinnoh felt more adventurous and ambitious as a whole. Yup, the original game wouldn't fit on the fucking cartridge so Iwata used his magic compression skills and managed to fit the game on the cart with enough space to add over half of the previous game in, hence why they added Kanto.
