Let me explain: all classes feel different, heavy emphasis on cooperation, pretty good upgrade system (IMO). It's still a shit RPG mixed with platforming elements though, and by shit I mean armors only give you better stats and the whole combat doesn't rely on skills and more on end-game gear. Quest system is talk to X, kill Y amount of enemies. Some jump quests here and there mixed with themed-dungeons.
nope, maplestory is shit
most p2w mmo ever, upgrading system is stupid, quests suck after the first fifty levels and it's just a grind fest afterwards, combat is boring, community is shit, god I could go on.
tl;dr stay the fuck away from maplestory
If you want my opinion, stay away from any MMO to be honest. They're all complete shit. Don't bother investing time on them when in the end it'll all just go to waste (I'm talking about your precious time here).
>typing this much for a P2W game with nothing but fetch quests, grinding, and boring boss combat which is just mashing a few buttons and standing in the same spot
Plus the bosses only get "harder" with most health so it's just that boring boss fight gameplay for longer and longer. There are only around 4 skills that are actually a threat and all big bosses have them so the bosses aren't even different aside from asthetics.
>actually grinding in MMOs
This is why you people don't have fun in these games, you just play them like single player games with harder fights and party members that are real people. Stop that.
B-but that's exactly what I wrote. Do you guys read beyond the first few words or something?
Also, if my only choice is MapleStory, I think it's safe to say that all MMOs are fucking shit.
>Second life if you stay away from the perverts
>Private server WoW
Second Life is not an MMO.
Minecraft is not an MMO.
Vanilla WoW is shit but at least it's an MMO so I'll give you a pass on that one based on opinions. But you sound like a retard.
This is pretty true. Any MMOs gameplay is just a mediocre single player RPG. Get friends and find a game with bosses that interest you, and with decent gameplay. Point and click WoW style is outdated as shit now.
I did read it. Recommending it in a "fun" thread is not okay. Most people on here played it when it first started out, and we all agreed it was shit after awhile.
It's combat is fun, impactful, and pretty varied among all classes, there are parries and combos and you are generally not just pressing 1 button like a retard
When it comes to pay2win bullshit, it's not as apparent as in other nexon games until much much later in the game, and the only thing you can pay for is cosmetics early on, if you want to be autistic about armor sets.
Looking forward to elite myself but Shroud does seem to be moving in the right direction
fucking asshole lord british, he ruined Ultima Online
I'm having fun with Kritika, but you'll need to brave moonrunes.
I have seen shit on SL that makes /b/ look like a family friendly site
>This is why you people don't have fun in these games, you just play them like single player games with harder fights and party members that are real people. Stop that.
I love that.
One time in Everquest Online Adventures (lol) there was this guy who happened to always be in the same spot at the same time as me every day, and we got in the habit of grouping up and grinding together. Every day. We never talked. He was like a really smart and helpful NPC.
>love the idea of darkfall
>try playing it
>controls are fucking shit
I ran an RP guild for the first few months. It was actually pretty good, even though tesorp was filled to the brim with horrible Mary Sue faggots that spilled into the game and ended up polluting the entire RP scene. I handed it off to an officer who can still stomach it and unsubbed.
Also the Devs fucked the lore hard in just about every way imaginable.
guild wars 1 is still fun
the only modern MMO you should bother with is FF XIV. if you don't like the sub fee, just play guild wars 1. no kidding.
That's a funny ass joke right there, nigger.
Started playing DarkBlood Online yesterday, tits related.
It's... okay. It's like if TERA was a beat 'em up mixed with a Diablo clone.
Combat's flashy and functional but the controls take a few minutes to get used to since it was made to be played with an arcade stick, of all things.
If any of that sounds appealing and you don't mind some mild engrish translations like "listen my situation" or "can enter arena at 30 level" then give it a shot.
>replies with a picture about not replying
>I will never get to go back to being a teenager that does nothing but eat, sleep, go to school, go to work and play RO.
>I will never take things way too seriously and cause lots of drama again without it feeling forced
>I am not approaching that "creepy" guy
The stress system kills any hope of that game gaining any substantial success. They need to realize its not illegal for the western world to play a game for more than 4 hours like in korealand.
I don't mind it since I'm not expecting to play it too seriously, but I can see how it can be annoying to some people.
If it were properly localized it probably wouldn't have that system at all, though.
Blade and soul
No need for mounts your sprint speeds things up along with flying.
The combat system were well balanced it does not feel like a grindfest.
>FF XIV is great anon! You should try it!
>2,5 second global cooldown
>Massive lag on EU servers which are in Canada for some reason
>Quests are boring as fuck
>Combat is boring and clunky because of the lag
>Menus and chat system is garbage
>Plot is fucking shit (doesnt really matter since its an MMO anyways)
Why do people like it again?
MMOs are fueled by compulsion, not fun.
>Look at chat
>99% is literally people spamming xD, XD, -_-, .____. etc
I'm currently replaying Ragnarok on a lowrate pServer that has no 3rd jobs.
>chillin and shit at town chatting with randoms
>slowly grindan for zeny
>getting upgrades for gear takes forever and satisfying
I hate how clunky it is though, especially the god damn hitstun. 15+ years later, they still have that in and it still desyncs you like crazy.
jesus you are autistic
seriously these people are probably just trying to be nice and all you can concern yourself with is the fact they used an emoticon
no wonder /v/ hates mmo,s you're all a bunch of anti social fuccbois
>Only one post from some retard
OP, try Secret World. Seriously. Fucking do it. Don't listen to people saying the combat is shit. Fucking play it right now.
>Interesting, well presented storyline
>Combat is fine
>Dungeons are 10/10, hard but not unfair.
>Doesn't have kill 10 boar quests
>Feel like playing a healer
>No good games to heal people in other than WoW
I have never seen a more objectively wrong opinion on all of /v/
Not him, but there are some emoticons I can tolerate, like I can deal with the "I'm so kawaii ^_^" shit. But xD or XD I just can't accept, the face looks so bizarre and it hurts to look at.
Looks like dedicated healers are getting phased out of the genre. Healing doesn't make kids feel special enough, anon. The world isn't ready for supportbros like us.
this nigga has good taste
It's all about the chase. Girls do it to attract guys. Guys do it so girls will like them. There has to be something wrong with that logic but that's how it is.
Some people never grow up.
why would anybody want an angry autistic person such as yourself in their guild? you clearly don't know how to associate with people
It never gets truly good, but it does get good enough so that it doesn't distract from enjoying the superhumanly good story and worldbuilding.
And the investigation missions... Fuck, I'd pay full price for a game of nothing but investigation missions.
Guild Wars 1 had fantastic healing, and I dare say I was fantastic at it. They got rid of it for Guild Wars 2 in favor of self-heal for all classes, just one of many retarded moves on their part.
The Secret World does support dedicated healers, and they're a must for dungeon runs and raids.
>this nigger thinks I care about wildstar
Blind fanaticism right here, people. I'm sorry you are offended when people vocalize what they believe are flaws in games you associate yourself with.
>Guild Wars 2 breaks the bank while City of Heroes and The Matrix Online perish
>want to play guild wars 1
>everyone says its fun if you join a guild
>hear there's a /v/ guild and everyone there is really nice to new players and aren't elitists
>can't find the /v/ guild
I played a MUD once for like ten minutes when I was a kid. I thought it was cool, then I never played it again. What good ideas do they have? Also, is it true that you can typically connect to them with telnet? It says that on Wikipedia.
>WoD MMO prematurely aborted
>still no GitS-themed MMO in sight
Make way for Fallen Earth, you peasants.
You know what, never mind, remembering all the good times I had in this game will just make me melancholy
A Hero was given(I stole it!) scroll of firewall from an unknown benefactor(some sucker) and use it to save us all from tyranny of Lord British.
Unfortunately all this happen in beta test T_T.
Now you can start calling me grampa now.
Which private server? I tried downloading one but the setup just makes my computer slowdown and lag forever without any window popping up. Sometimes it eventually pops up but when the installation bar goes to 100% it just stays like that for hours and my computer goes into overdrive.
I used to play EQII. I quit because my friend wanted to play FFXI instead. And then recently I got nostalgic and tried to play LotRO, but ran up against a paywall. Fuck that shit.
Is FFXIV good? FFXI was kind of cool, but IMO the world wasn't as cool as Everquest's. It felt less open and explorable. Back when I played FFXI my extremely male friend was a catgirl. All that I've heard about FFXIV is that the UI really sucks, but that was shortly after launch.
These feels. Literally why I dropped GW2
It all kind of depends on what your definition of fun in an MMO is.
WoW has a major content drought until the ten year anniversary or maybe earlier depending on tomorrow.
FFXIV is getting frequent content updates but has really boring combat.
TERA is TERAble if you live in australia.
I don't know how wildstar is doing these days, but it's about as close to a vanilla WoW style MMO around that isn't a private server.
There's no an MMO where I can live the boring and shitty life of a crafter and being in the position still important to the comunity?
Housing, crafting, economy, good support class and shet.
One day man, it will come.
You don't get it yet
Oh wait. Hi! You know who it is!
Hi! I need to work on getting better screenshots.
>healerfags would condemn those of us who don't play them to long ass waiting times for dungeon runs
Not to mentioned healers lose a lot of their importance in the more modern skill based MMOs where attacks are simply avoidable.
Fuckin' yes. Agree.
CB3 comes out today. Haven't played it yet but I've been eyeing it ever since CB2
>mfw i've pre-made my class setup
>It's Primevil, and Primevil is supposedly the best class in the game
You can play C9 for a bit, learn a class and go almost DMC-tier cuhrazy and pvp for a bit, and then just play something else instead of endgame grind. The best MMO out there is just playing a different one per week.
Tomorrow starts the free CBT of Archeage so thats what im playing.
Daily reminder that MUDs are still fully-functional. If you're sick of Korean grindfests, play InfernoMOO or the Discworld MUD
Eden Eternal, niggas
Shit's comfy as fuck (if you don't mind the large amount of autists onine)
inb4 "image for ants" i couldn't find a better one
>Not moving on to the objectively superior Aura Kingdom
Guild Wars 1
>mfw it's still fun as fuck playing by yourself
Neo-Anet can never take my love for the original away, no matter how much they butchered GW2.
clearly Dragon Pals is where its at
What the fuck is this captcha
That's actually one of the few things that was good, they brought it from the original. It's not about how much time some neckbeard poopsocked to get gear, it was about how skilled and competent you were. Are you trying to suggest gear should be more important than skill?
Gearing up for PvP has always been retarded though
Especially when you need to PvP for PvP gear and you have to fight people in PvP gear with your own inferior PvE gear to fuckign get it. Or worse, there's no PvP gear and you have to do motherfucking raids to get BiS gear when you aren't interested in PvE
The most fun healing that I've ever had in video games was as a pre-functionality-change Life Sheath monk in GW1 (if we can call that healing) and the Medic in TF2. TF2 healing is shittons of fun, though, because you can actually participate in fights and because of how much movement and positioning plays into the game. Long range arrow healing is also amazing.
It's honestly hard to believe the same people that made GW1 made GW2. GW1 nailed the combat so well. It did what they said they wanted to do for GW2. At a glance you could tell what condition, if any, an enemy was suffering from, and most important spells were visually distinct and easily recognizable without cluttering the whole screen. Energy, weapon swaps, dual classing with a single primary attribute all added depth that allowed for skilled and creative play. Skill pool was large enough that when they nerfed something to shit a solid meta would emerge in no time.
And they just turned it all to shit in 2. Unbelievable.
Are you fucking retarded? It's got content patches every 2 weeks and the world completion ALONE will take you some time, not to mention the dungeons, WvW, PvP, Guild events, story, dynamic story, and collection based achievements.
Please don't fucking tell me there's nothing to do. That's a cheap, lame reason.
There are plenty of reason to hate it but that is most definitely not one.
Healing was most fun to me as a boonprot monk in GW1 pre-nerf. Even after the various energy management nerfs the build still soldiered on as a solid backline healer. Swapping sets to deal with e-denial mesmers while keeping my warrior train alive was fun as fuck.
Then the build was killed and I started playing other classes.
I tried playing this game but the community felt non-existent in game and the world was felt so empty and soul less. Looks like I'll have to wait for MS 2 for a cutesy mmo.
every single "revolutionary" thing they said they were going to do with guild wars 2, was already done in guild wars 1
they left out SO many features from GW1, it's a mess
>mfw gw2 has worse PvP balance than GW1 despite having 99% smaller skill pool
>mfw gw2 has more grind than GW2 despite them touting the anti-grind
>mfw gw2 level grinding takes 10x longer than GW1 despite them touting the anti-level grind
>mfw no guild halls
>mfw no GvG
they did everything perfect with gw1 and fucked it all up in 2
>You will never be a able to have the drive to play 14 hours of mom's straight ever again
>you will never be able to take guild orders seriously
>your youth is over and your imagination has stagnated into a filthy pool of cynicism and depression
>remove dual professions
>remove the ability to fully customize your skill bar
>remove the vast majority of total skills
>do all of this in the name of making it easier to achieve proper balance
>GW2 still a unbalanced shitfest of zerkers and warriors
Thanks Izzy. Also, what was their justification for making the level cap 80 when it was 20 in the first one, and everything past 30 (arguably 20) in GW2 was nothing but padding.
it was all padding after level 15 in guild wars 2 since that is when you unlocked all your skills
its like they made the game have 80 levels because WoW did. except WoW actually has a reason for levels, because the game actually gets harder and you unlocks TONS of more skills as you progress
GW2 PvE difficulty level is the same from level 1...I just dont get it
Prophecies - The first game released, originally titled Guild wars, the prophecies moniker was later added when they realized that instead of releasing free content like most MMO's, they could just repackage the same game but give it a different backdrop. The game is set primarily in the continent Kryta, which is also the name of the planet that the games are set on, because they didn't have enough foresight to write in the possibility that the game would be expanded.
Factions - The second campaign released, it added cutting edge innovations into the game including
Being set in a vaguely Asian continent
Making an Asian themed character
Took away all bonus objectives and instead added a time limit.
Playing as either a Luxon or Kurdick
Nightfall - The third and final full campaign released, set in what appears to be a very white interpretation of Africa, the game added the ability to add heroes, which act as a customizable character that is controlled by A.I, officially removing any reason to play with other human beings.
Eye of the North - The only true expansion to the game, having only content designed for fully leveled characters. The game is notable for adding next to nothing to the actual game, and being a huge waste of time.
Oh, and it had dungeons.
Prophecies: Your hometown gets bombed. Then, a completely unrelated bad guy wants to take over the world, and you have to stop him.
Factions: Some dead bad guy tries to take over the world, and you have to stop him.
Nightfall: Some evil god tries to take over the world, and you have to stop him.
Grind of the North: The races from 250 years in the future dropped their experience points, and you have to go pick them all up.
The problem is that fun is subjective. It's why I never take the word seriously in reviews I read. Chances are the reviewer has an entirely different idea of fun than me. Just like some people probably enjoy doing the same fucking action over and over again for hours in the minute hope some shiny thing will drop for them. Or lining up to continuously do the same dungeons/raids/instances/whatever the fuck. These people probably think MMOs are fun.
>Guild Wars is a structured PvP MMORPG that Arenanet decided to mainly market as a casual PvE game because making these two groups play together is a good idea. To alleviate the shitness of the game, Arena-net placed a hotkey that links specifically to the Guild Wars Wiki which in turn links to PvX wiki, which when combined will remove all responsibility to form a coherent thought since there is no gameplay.
>Effectively dead since the day it was released, the games PvP is now structured around a skilled playerbase of 15 people, causing guild battles to be uneven (minimum of 16 players required, unless you use bots, in which case you only need 8 people), and championship matches to contain players from the same guild on opposite sides. The company who created Guild Wars, Arena Net swears that they will keep Guild Wars servers open for as long as even one person is playing. Speaking of this eventuality as though it is a distant reality has further proven that ArenaNet is staffed by monkeys, who shit their pants at least four times per day; as they have lost control of all bodily functions and live their lives rolling round in their own feces.
Still waiting for my fnen to come back ;_;
>The grouping system in Guild Wars is totally awesome, but nobody uses it because saying LFG in chat is easier. Actually, JewNet ripped off Diablo 2's grouping system. Towns are actually Chat Rooms, and once you enter an area with your 8 man MMORPG team, nobody else can come with you.
>Most guilds in guild wars are filled with so many stupid shitters, they run overpowered PvE skills and still lose at the first mob. This is because Guild Wars features technology that makes you stupid due to prolonged exposure. If Guild Wars was a Mario Bros game, most guilds wouldn't be smart enough to find the start button.
>A typical workaround of playing with other dumbshit players is to hire Prostitutes to Rape the enemies for you while you Fap. The second advantage of using this strategy is that when Anet gives their fail servers Buttsecks and kick everybody out of the game, your heroes blow everything the fuck up, and in the rare chance the game lets you reconnect, you can Jew.
my only issue with it is one aspect of combat where if your attacking one direction you cant spin around quickly enough, if i could do that then i'd honestly enjoy the combat more its a pain when you just watch as a mob walks behind you and smacks your ass
More or less this. MMOs in general are an exercise in converting the adventures that one players in a TRPG into an active, non-turn-based system. Only trouble is that the MMOs which became commercially successful were the ones that more or less slapped on a lot of the turn-based mechanics onto this new active system without any wiggle room for imagination and then expected everything to turn out alright.
What that spawned was a game that forced the illusion of choice onto players and produced PvE and PvP encounters that mimic the type of interactions in rock-paper-scissors. MMO is a genre that honestly probably just probably ahead of its time in terms of ambition--it's effectively the fetal alcohol baby born a month early of the gaming world. The reason we have shit like .hack, Log Horizon or any other "online action adventure RPG series" is because the only way that we can truly imagine a well-made MMO--that is to say a game that combines the creativity and choice of a TRPG with the active feel of an action game--is in fiction.
MMOs as they exist now are effectively glorified rock-paper-scissor matches in PvP and a social chat room in PvE.
There are still a couple of active guilds around though, and if you're at the right place at the right time you'll most certainly get into a full party.
Ab, JQ, and FA are dead though, as is GvG
without even knowing anything about the game, i'm guessing it's a timer that forces you to log out for a set time period.
life in korea is apparently shitty enough that people feel the need to escape into games more obsessively than in other countries. babies have dehydrated to death, children have starved themselves while playing, and adults have lost jobs/wives or even their own life over their obsession.
think poopsocking is bad? some poor fuckers have literally died while playing these online games.
Wildstar is pretty fun.
Sure, it's got plenty of issues, ain't denying, but somehow it's still fun.
I ended up getting dragged into playing TOR with my friends and besides the rampant jewing I'm surprisingly having fun.
It does strikes this weird balance of neat ideas and botched execution that baffles me in how anyone thought it was a good idea.
Ownership of Runescape changed hands around 2010. Everything since then has been a downward hill for the game, and is why the servers are always so deserted. It all started with the cash shop.
Actually, maybe it was around 2011 it started going down hill. 2012 was when it finally shit the bed and everything after that has been shit. Maybe it actually was 2011 when ownership changed hands, I don't remember.
Its piece of garbage promoted solely through word of mouth by mouthbreathing neckbeard ERP autists on /vg/ here
It has no depth or real decent combat, I beat T5 in December before and after 2.1, so please.
Thanks for the confirmation of ERP /vg/ shitters shilling the game all of the time.
I told you, I beat T5 before and after 2.1, I quit the game because its casual trash and its nothing but a vertical ladder unlike its previous inception.
Yoshi lies. Keep spooning up that shit and eating it while you ERP in your houses that have absolutely no impact because crafting doesnt matter anymore due to the vertical ladder, that everyone is already all 50s due to the piss easy EXP system and literally handing people at launch free 50s due to item turn ins without having forced the game to check if the items were signed by the player needing to level, and also providing a single player experience almost all the way to 50 besides forced dungeons where idiots who (back then) only did FATEs would fuck up an hour of your time.
Provided I heard they tweaked all of those things, the game is beyond repair, and its casual trash only to appeal to the retards who still cannot clear T5 which I did over 8 months ago with literal hand me down free purples in your Hunt shit from what I've read.
>Im apparently bad from having all 50s, beating T5 before 95% of the population, and having played 1.x where it was brutal and unforgiving, let alone my XI experience
Drones gonna drone when their ERP waifu game is on the line.
I'd like to thank OP for posting that image and introducing me to the somersault series, my dick appreciates it
>tfw no tomboyish 11 year old loli gf
yea, im with the other guy on the minecraft thing, its not an mmo, man
though i do see where youre coming from and its an interesting thought to say the least
way i see it, we'd have to categorize any game with a flexible private server cap as an mmo
just to name a couple that came to mind
>All these posts about FF
>TSW only gets a few
I swear, the combat is shit and there's like all of 5 people playing it, but damn if it doesn't have the most interesting story and worldbuilding of any MMO ever made
>Requires careful observation and critical thinking, ranging from using emotes to pray to a statue to noticing environmental details like sewer lids or blood stains
>Quests involving massive amounts of research and subtle, well-thought out clues
>Amazing story, which isn't spoonfed and presented mostly as subjective accounts or random found objects
The only downside is that the gameplay is a bit tired, but by having such a good questing system it gives another dimension to multiplayer. You can THINK together.
For all /v/ bitches about shitty stories in MMOs and generic premises and repetitive quests, you'd think they'd give more attention to the one MMO that gets it all right. Admit it, it was just an excuse. You just wanted to play as a slutty rabbit loli or whatever.
>MMO Art Direction
>WoW or corean final fantasy titty monsters
WHY ONLY THESE TWO
My best overall MMO experience belongs to the one of the most heavily (and rightfully) criticized MMOs of all time, Warhammer: Age of Reckoning.
So many blunders but oh so many good battles too, both PvP and PvE.
The only fun thing about MMOs is watching them crash and burn.
