I have a LEGIT fear of mental patients. They scare the ever living fuck out of me. Regular humans, what ever,they have self preservation instincts and patterns. Fucking mental patients? Un predictable and wild with no fear.

That being said, Outlast was a fucking project. Holy shit it was hard to finish. The end was nice, ghosts and shit i can handle, but not crazies.

Also, the Silent hill demo was pretty spoopy. I have an uncanny ability to really get into character when the lights are off and the head phones are on.

I will buy occulus rift and wear it for horror games exclusivly because shitty myself out of fear is the only way to feel alive these days

When you are first in the cave there is fucking jump scares with men grabbing you, I was nearly in tears due to not expecting it at all in that game, I was in my comfort zone.

As much as I hate to say it, Daylight.

Normally I don't get scared during horror games since it's all jumps and hiding in the dark but Daylight just keeps you on edge the whole time and that's what kills me. That and the indie one Paranormal.

Used to get scared real easy as a kid, but I've gotten over that now. Only real thing I can think of is in Condemned 2 when the rabies bear chased you. I got so scared every time I faced a dead end I just reloaded the checkpoint, no way was I letting that thing catch me.

Survival horror games usually have the best atmosphere and the ones that make resources scarce are some of my favorites. I just wish i wasn't a giant vagina.

I've been playing STALKER SoC for the first time, and invisible blood suckers still consistently scare the shit out of me. Sometimes I can only play for 20 minutes at a time because it stresses me out so much.

What's the scariest game with no jump scares?

Metro 2033 has a pretty scary atmosphere and relies more on foreboding and tension than cheap jump scares. There were moments where I was pretty cautious to move forward because I was scared, mainly because I played the game at night most of the time.

When I was really young I was easily scared, even by certain parts of non-horror games. But once something in life comes along that really puts the fear of god into you, you find it hard to be frightened by them anymore.

I can never bring myself to play SCP: Containment Breach without pussying out at some point. Sure, the jump scares might feel cheap to some but I'll always panic when having to actively concentrate on losing the enemies unlike Penumbra or Amnesia where running hysterically or crying in a dark corner are usually enough for survival.

Getting sandwiched by 173 and Radical Larry is the worst feeling ever.

I haven't played SH1 except for a few hours when I was a kid. But I played through SH2 a few years back when I was an adult.

The feeling of pure dread and horror fucked with me really hard. I've never experienced such unadulterated, primal fear when I played it. The fucking atmosphere in that game, yo.
I felt depressed, twitchy and cold when I had played it for a couple of hours.

It was definitely the atmosphere, music and monster design.
There wasn't exactly the same fear as a jump scare or you see a scary face and you want to get away from it.
It was some claustrophobic, oppressive feeling that stuck under my skin even after I stopped playing it.
I can't explain it too well, since it's just a general feeling of anguish. It's probably because that's what I believe hell is like, if there is one.

Silent hill is the only game that has made me stop playing due to fear. I don't usually play horror games since they use a lot of jump scares which I hate, but I usually finish the ones without, like the Zero series and SS2. SH made me surrender without jump scaring me at all. The atmosphere is just that good. I think it's mostly due to mindfucks and the excellent sound design.

Man, I wish I was more afraid of stuff. I can get scared when the atmosphere in a game is nice, so I can immerse myself properly, played Corpse Party recently, and I definitely felt some fear during certain parts, but it was mostly just because I liked the characters and was scared that they'd die. Like when Ayumi jumps in the pool and that timer started. I freaked and even though I had read the note saying that you shouldn't drain the water when there's people inside the pool, I just ran and did it anyway because that was the only solution I thought about at the time. When she died, and I got the wrong end, it was all over, immersion broken, and I could without a problem do it the next time. And no matter how much into the game I am, as soon as I quit, I stop being scared. But I wish I could just let that fear, that part of the game stay with me for once, it just never happens.

Another good example was when I got into Dark Souls. I didn't play Demon's Souls, unfortunately, but before I got any good at Dark Souls, enemies, bosses in particular felt frightening, I really just immersed myself, and I had to find a way to beat them, as if my own life was at stake. Icepick Lodge's "Knock-Knock" never got me felt actually directly threatened while I was playing, but it made me feel slightely nausseus and actually triggered mild anxiety attacks after each session.

I stopped playing it before I finished it, because I found myself weirdly terrified by the idea of turning it on again.

Pathologic causes depression because it's an incredibly sad, depressing, and bleak story in a bleak and depressing enviroments, where the player rutinely finds himself being faced against odds that he can't really do anything about.
It's also depressingly badly translated.

Knock-Knock causes anxiety, and it's far weirder, because it's neither due to it's story (it's story is too vague and too puzzling for most of the game to actually make the player anxious), nor it's art direction. It also has virtually no jump scares, and the presentation is as seemingly unimmersive as it can get.

I'm not sure what is it about the game that causes the effects. I am sure that I've seen it reported far too often for it to be mere self-induced state. Obviously, I'm fairly possitive it must be an explicable thing too.

I guess it's just in the way the core gameplay mechanisms toy with the player's head, leaving almost completely at lost about what is REALLY actually going on. And by that I don't mean the story - I mean the gameplay mechanics themselves.
I've played good five or six hours of it and I am still not fucking sure how do I even play the game, and what reactions will my actions cause.
